The widow of the late and well-known Taiwanese writer Mr. Bai Yang Zhang Xianghua recently announced that in order to prevent being used to insult China by the "Taiwan independence" forces, it has decided to stop publishing the book "Ugly Chinese", which has aroused high attention from public opinion on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. On the 18th, Zhang Xianghua described his decision as a "straight ball showdown" with the Democratic Progressive Party authorities in an interview with the reporter of " Global Times ". She said bluntly that the "ugly Chinese" is still there in Taiwan Island , and that is Chen Shizhong, the head of Taiwan's epidemic prevention department.

"The Ugly Chinese" was published in Taiwan in 1985. The main content is to criticize the bad nature of the Chinese in the last century and the "sauce jar culture". Zhang Xianghua told the Global Times reporter that it can be said that "The Ugly Chinese" pointed the finger at the Kuomintang officialdom in Taiwan at that time. Reading this book cannot be separated from the background of the times and must have corresponding historical knowledge reserves. "Bai Yang said during his lifetime, 'When China progresses, then don't read this book', which means that when Chinese people no longer indulge in the closed, conservative, and unrealistic problems of doing things in the past, we will have new goals to pursue, and this book should be abolished." 82-year-old Zhang Xianghua explained why he decided to stop publishing "The Ugly Chinese" forever.
The more important reason why Zhang Xianghua made his mind determined was that the DPP authorities attempted to use Bai Yang's works to "de-Sinicize". Therefore, she regards her decision as a "straight-ball showdown" with the DPP authorities. "Tsai Ing-wen once said that she is Chinese because she grew up studying Chinese books, but her words and deeds are not the same now, so I think this person is unreliable. The DPP authorities promote "de-Sinicization" in the curriculum, which is destroying our nation."
"No writer in Taiwan would refuse to publish his own works, and his articles were selected into textbooks is even more honorable," but Zhang Xianghua said, "If you don't want such a government's 'glory', what kind of glory do bad people give you? You see these writers in Taiwan now are castrated, and none of them dare to come out to accuse the DPP authorities." She said that if Bai Yang was alive, seeing that young Taiwanese people are gradually being brainwashed by "de-Sinicization" and resisting cross-strait unification, "he would definitely be very angry! He has told me more than once, 'The time of Taiwan independence is the time of unification'. During his jail, many 'Taiwan independence' people were doctors, but Bai Yang didn't look for them when he was sick. The meaning was very clear: I am unification , you are 'independence', and even if you are locked in a cage, I don't want you to treat me."
In 2000, Bai Yang was appointed by Chen Shui-bian as the "National Policy Advisor of the Presidential Office". Zhang Xianghua said that he could not question Bai Yang as "Taiwan independence" because of this. "First of all, this position is not Chen Shui-bian's personal adviser, but a position in the office of the Supreme Chief Executive of Taiwan. In addition, during the election campaign, Chen Shui-bian asked someone twice to ask Bai Yang if he could accompany him to sweep the streets and vote. Bai Yang politely refused and said, 'I am old and can be your friend of the people'. I think this is a clever reply, because if Bai Yang goes to the scene that supports Chen Shui-bian, it would be a statement even if he doesn't speak. He declined and used the 'folk friend' to convey the meaning of 'I have my freedom, don't convince me, if I do that, I will be your friend'."
Zhang Xianghua has personally experienced the progress of the mainland. She said, "2019 was my last time to go to the mainland. Compared with the 1980s, I saw more smiles on people's faces. What moved me the most was that mainland taxi drivers are often willing to be our guides, making people feel that their lives are so confident and so happy, while some taxi drivers in Taiwan want to extort more money." Corresponding to the progress of the mainland, the "ugly Chinese" still exists on Taiwan Island.Zhang Xianghua said, "I heard Taiwanese compatriots speak at the airport, for fear that they would not know how much her bag costs." The video of Chen Shizhong being disclosed on the 1st day ago, singing with a dinner without a mask was exactly what the book "Ugly Chinese" criticized, "He is completely the ugliest Chinese!"
When asked if he would worry about personal safety when he was worried about his personal safety with the "straight ball showdown" with the DPP authorities, Zhang Xianghua said that this is why she is willing to accept media interviews. "The DPP is shameless and shameless in 'green terror', so making her own voice in the media is a kind of self-protection."
