Acute respiratory infectious disease caused by Bacillus pertussis was once one of the main infectious disease agents that cause deaths in infants and young children around the world. Since my country included the diphtheria and tetanus vaccine into the children's program immunization in 1978, the incidence of pertussis has been effectively controlled, and the reported incidence is controlled below 1.0/100,000. However, in recent years, the global rebound trend has been seen. In 2014, my country reported 3,408 cases of pertussis, with an incidence rate of 0.24/100,000. In 2019, 30,027 cases of pertussis were reported nationwide, with an incidence rate of 2.14/100,000.

In 2020, the country approved the first registration certificate for pertussis nucleic acid testing reagents. Compared with the traditional culture and testing method that only takes 3-5 days to issue results, the results can be produced in 2-3 hours of nucleic acid testing, which has the advantages of speed, convenience, high sensitivity and high accuracy.

Luo Ruping said that the vaccine for pertussis in the national planned immunization is called diphtheria and tetanus vaccine. At present, my country's diagnosis and treatment guidelines for whooping cough are still in the 2007 edition, and building and improving the monitoring system is the basis for obtaining epidemiological data, and it is also a necessary condition for evaluating immunity strategies and their prevention effects after changes.
