"Disease Control talks about AIDS"
Real case series of young students

A HIV diagnosis report, like a boot that finally landed
A master's student's story of infection with HIV

Introduction :
The case story I share with you today is a master's student. He understands the transmission routes and preventive measures of AIDS , but it is still difficult to avoid frequent unsafe sexual behavior.

PART 01
A story about a graduate student infected with HIV

We call today's protagonist Xiao W. When he was diagnosed with HIV infection, he was a second grade graduate student.
Xiao W is a boy who has had same-sex sexual behavior since his sophomore year. His sexual partner is also a student, and he mainly gets met through online social software. In recent years, there have been two fixed sexual partners, and the others are basically temporary sexual partners, or have a short maintenance time.
Every time I have sex with a new sexual partner, Xiao W will use a condom. He said it is clear that unprotected sexual behavior between the same sex is a high-risk behavior for HIV infection, but after dating a person a few times, he will subconsciously relax his vigilance against the disease. Sometimes he happens to have no condoms, and sometimes he just wants to pursue stimulation. In short, he cannot take safety measures every time. After every unprotected sexual behavior, Xiao W will worry about whether she will get infected with AIDS, and will go for a test every once in a while, or buy test strips online for testing.

Every time I feel nervous, I will be very grateful to get a negative result and make up my mind to avoid high-risk behaviors in the future. However, after a period of time, my vigilance against the disease will weaken and high-risk behaviors will occur again. The life state seems to have entered a cycle, and the mood also fluctuates with the ups and downs.
This time is the end of last year. Xiao W first used online shopping test strips to test it. The test results showed that there was a problem. Then he made an appointment for the VCT clinic for disease control to confirm. This time, he was not so lucky, and what awaited him was a confirmation report of HIV.

When he informed Xiao W of the positive HIV test result in the outpatient clinic, he looked sad and said that he knew that he would face this result sooner or later. He was not surprised, but his life plan might have to be adjusted.

PART 02
Disease Control Jun comments

Xiao W gives people the impression that although he is depressed after getting the confirmed result, he looks very calm, which is very different from the tension and anxiety shown by most newly confirmed infected people. It seems that he is not surprised by this result.
Xiao W can be said to be a representative of young students who are infected with HIV. Most of these infected people have high-risk behavior factors such as unprotected male sexual behavior, multiple sexual partners, temporary sexual partners, etc. Although they understand AIDS-related knowledge and can take safety measures most of the time, they cannot insist on using condoms. At the same time, because of understanding the risks of your behavior, it is inevitable that you will be in a state of anxiety for a long time. You often buy HIV test strips for self-testing or go to the VCT clinic for testing. You are very glad to have negative tests every time, but after a period of time, unsafe sexual behavior will occur and enter a cycle. This state also affects your study and life.

Young people are in the period of sexual activity. In recent years, many surveys have shown that the age of young students' first sexual behavior is also ahead of schedule. According to a national survey on sexual and reproductive health of college students conducted by several institutions from 2019 to 2020, the average age of first sexual behavior is between 18 and 19 years old [1]. The first sexual behavior of male and male sexual among students is younger [2]. Sex is a topic that teenagers must face during their growth. Family, schools and society should help teenagers develop healthy sexual concepts, understand the importance of safe sexual behavior, master the corresponding knowledge and skills, and understand how to correctly obtain prevention and control services.
For individuals, uses condoms correctly throughout each sexual behavior, which is the first principle of safe sexual behavior . Condoms can effectively prevent AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections, and can also prevent girls from getting pregnant unexpectedly.Don’t be lucky about potential risks and insist on taking safety measures every time you act. Many infected people are infected because they are lucky.

0. If a high-risk behavior occurs, you must promptly perform "preventive medication after exposure" (also known as PEP or blocking drug). The earlier you take the medication, the better the effect, and it will be effective within 72 hours.
✔ If you have excessively high-risk behavior or suspect that you are infected with HIV, you can go to the VCT clinic or medical institution of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention for HIV testing.
✔ Students who are inconvenient to go or have various concerns can also purchase and use AIDS self-test reagents for self-testing through formal channels.
✔ It should be noted that if the self-test result shows positive, you must go to the Center for Disease Control or the hospital for further diagnosis as soon as possible.

✔ For some people who repeatedly have high-risk behaviors, such as the protagonist in this case story today, there is now a new biological prevention method as an option, that is, " pre-exposure prevention " (PrEP) [3], which is to prevent HIV infection by taking specific antiviral drugs, which can be understood as "pre-use medication".
✔ It should be noted that "pre-exposure prevention" and "post-exposure prevention" are both targeted at people who are not infected with HIV. At the same time, blocking drugs are prescription drugs. Professional evaluation of is required before taking it and it needs to be used under the guidance of a doctor. Therefore, if necessary, should go to a designated hospital for AIDS to obtain (both Beijing You'an Hospital and Ditan Hospital can be provided).

Finally, I want to say that although scientific progress has given humans more choices and opportunities to deal with HIV, please remember that the best "blocking drug" for is first of all, . I hope that young friends can always remain alert when facing emotional and sexual needs, love themselves, stay away from unsafe and unprotected sexual behaviors, and be the first person responsible for their own health.
May every young friend stay away from AIDS , cherish health and enjoy a beautiful youth.
