For thyroid cancer , what impressed me the most was a soldier fellow soldier in the army. He was very young, only about 30 years old. A year ago, he found thyroid nodules in the physical examination, but because other physical examinations were very good, there was no abnormality, and he was strong, so he ignored it. However, this year's physical examination B-ultrasound found problems and thyroid cancer was initially confirmed!

This fellow villager cried bitterly and regretted that he didn't care at that time! In fact, thyroid cancer is considered a "lucky cancer" among cancer , so don't panic, but my fellow villager's experience also reminds us of the importance of early detection of thyroid cancer. What are the early symptoms or signals of thyroid cancer?

Why is thyroid cancer "lucky cancer"?

Thyroid cancer is one of the common malignant tumors in the endocrine system. It is more common in middle-aged and young women, and the prevalence rate of women is higher than that of men. Among thyroid cancers, differentiated cancers include papillary carcinoma and follicular carcinoma, accounting for about 95% of thyroid cancer. If found in time, radical surgery will be performed when there is no distant metastasis. Usually, has a good prognosis. The 5-year survival rate of thyroid cancer is as high as more than 90%, and many patients can survive for more than 10-30 years, and thyroid cancer usually has good quality of life because most do not require chemotherapy or radiotherapy.

There are 4 pathological types of thyroid cancer, namely papillary carcinoma, follicular cell carcinoma, medullary carcinoma and undifferentiated carcinoma. The first three types are collectively called differentiated thyroid cancer. Among them, papillary cancer has the highest incidence rate, but it is also the easiest to cure. Generally, there is no problem with long-term survival, which is no different from ordinary people. However, the last type of thyroid undifferentiated cancer is more common in the elderly, and is extremely prone to deterioration and progresses very quickly. Most people die in about half a year. Fortunately, this dangerous type is only a very small proportion.

Early symptoms of thyroid cancer

Strictly speaking, early symptoms of thyroid cancer are often without obvious symptoms, and a few cases develop slowly, and the natural course of the disease can last for several years, which is the main cause of missed diagnosis or misdiagnosis. Patients may be found accidentally during physical examinations, or may be found with clinical symptoms in other parts when metastases occur. When thyroid cancer progresses to a certain level, the following symptoms may occur:

1. Swelling of the neck lymph nodes

Neck Lymph nodes Swelling is caused by lymph node metastasis in thyroid cancer, and it often appears as the first symptom. The diagnosis can be obtained through thyroid ultrasound examination and cervical lymph node pathology biopsy , and the tumor type and stage of thyroid cancer can be qualitative.

2.Difficult breathing

This is caused by compression of the lung bronchus when the cancer enlarges and compresses the trachea or thyroid cancer occurs when lung metastasis occurs. Patients may experience dyspnea, decrease in activity tolerance, and gradually worsen as the disease progresses.

3. Hoarse voice

When the cancer invades neighboring tissues, compressing vocal cords or affecting the recurrent laryngeal nerve, the patient may experience hoarse voice.

4.Difficulty swallowing

Cancer tumour invades the esophagus, causing esophageal stenosis, causing dysphagia or feeling foreign body sensation when swallowing.

It is worth reminding that when the above symptoms occur, it usually indicates that thyroid cancer has metastasized, but most thyroid cancers are differentiated cancers with relatively low malignancy. This is a blessing in disgrace, or "happy cancer". As long as the detection is timely and the treatment measures are appropriate, the survival rate is almost close to that of ordinary people.
