The report pointed out that Taiwan's elderly population has increased rapidly and the proportion of current children has decreased. About 10% to 20% of the elderly have difficulties in living function, and another 4% of the elderly are the main caregivers of the family. The average number of years of care is 8.89 years, and the average daily care is 14.16 hours, and nearly 50% of the elderly have no care for successors.

In the case of "old and elderly care", Taiwanese elderly people take care of their spouses the most, followed by parents and children. Among the elderly who are cared for, 76% are disabled and 21% are dementia.

Although many elderly people in Taiwan have a difficult life, Taiwanese people do not have enough understanding of related services. Most Taiwanese elderly people are relatively familiar with home services, day care and community care points, and know that the ratio is 65%, 52% and 43% respectively.

For the long-term care management center responsible for evaluation and service intermediaries, the "Long-term care ABC" policy highlight of the Taiwan authorities' long-term care 2.0 policy "Long-term care ABC" (referring to the establishment of a three-level service for community integrated service centers, compound day service centers, and street and alley long-term care stations), and the real estate reverse mortgage loan system (commonly known as "house-based elderly care"), the ratio of Taiwanese elderly people know is only 31%, 22%, and 12%.

Among them, for the reasons why the "Long-term Photography ABC" policy has not worked, Taiwanese elderly people most say that they don't know the most, and secondly, they don't know the service content. The reason why "house-based pension" is not widely accepted is that the elderly want to leave the property for their descendants to inherit.

Overall, about 58% of the elderly are satisfied with the satisfaction of the welfare measures of the elderly in the Taiwan authorities. Among them, Kinmen and Mazu region have the highest satisfaction, while southern Taiwan is the most unsatisfied region. However, compared with the 2013 survey, the ratio of those who feel "very happy" and "live well and enjoy life very much" has dropped slightly, and neither exceeds 50%.

To understand the living conditions of elderly people in Taiwan, Taiwan’s health and welfare department conducts surveys on the status of elderly people every 3-4 years, and this is the 7th investigation. The field visit was from early November 2017 to the end of January 2018, with a total of 6,920 people. The results of the report were released in September 2018, and the complete report was released on the evening of December 16, 2018.
