Reading and Friends - Taoyuan Library Three years

Hello everyone, I am Zhang Xiaojia of Taoyuan Library. Today I have the opportunity to participate in the sharing of the reading association. I hope to talk to you about some of the things that Taoyuan Library has done during its three years of establishment around the theme of reading and friends.
If you mention the origin of Taoyuan Library, I usually go back to the 2005 China Charming Town Selection, a border town that was completely unknown at that time, and Shun won the championship in one fell swoop. For a long time, I have been thinking that the 10 famous towns are very wealthy and open, and many people go out, and those who go out will come back to give back to their hometowns, build roads and run schools. So what did Heshun hit others with? I think it is largely because the people who came out of the harmony came back to run a library. Library and school have completely different images. For a small town, schools are used to cultivate wanderers. The biggest achievement is to send students out. The library is used to raise the community. It serves people at this time and here, such as the elderly who read newspapers in the picture. I am a new Beijinger and live in the largest humanistic residential community in Beijing, , Huilongguan , and we all say that we are from Dahuilongguan. We all come to the first generation of Beijing here for a better opportunity. In a sense, we also need to shoulder the responsibility of rebuilding our hometown in a foreign land. Then I think what I can think of is that our Dahui Longguan needs an community library , so we have Taoyuan Library.
The main theme of a library must be reading. Let me talk about the reading activities of Taoyuan Library. Taoyuan Library was established on October 1, 2013. It started its first book club on April 23, 2014. It was a few months behind because we had to spend time learning to make coffee and cook. In fact, a library that can’t sell simple meals is not a good coffee shop. Now, you can see that Taoyuan Library is now the number one in the comprehensive evaluation of Dahui Longguan. I don’t know if this is the best profit model that most reading spaces can imagine at this stage. The speaker of the first book club was me, there were a few people, but our starting point was a bit high, and we talked about "Robert's Rules of Procedure". At that time, I was mainly worried that if everyone's opinions were in a tit-for-tat way in the future, it might be a fight. The frequency of book clubs is once a week, and it is only paused during festivals. We have roughly counted it. In almost 3 years, we have done more than 100 book clubs.
Note that the reading activities in Taoyuan Library are not called reading clubs, but we call them book clubs, because we think that on the road of reading, people who accompany you all the way are very useful. Reading is the best thing in the world, but it is not too easy. Therefore, on the road of reading, we need guidance from teachers very much. For example, we will invite Mr. Zhang Mengyang, vice president of Lu Xun Research Association, to talk about "Lu Xun is today", and to invite Mr. Chen Hongming, a famous Taiwanese children's reading expert, to guide parents to "open picture books and get close to children."
The guidance of the teacher is very important, but more often our reading role models are around us, among our neighbors and friends. Most of the time our book friends come to share are not big names, but ordinary people around us. Everyone in our book club has the possibility of sharing on it and sitting down to listen, so the photos I gave here are all facing the audience. In the most familiar place, listen to the most familiar people, it doesn’t matter if the position is not enough to stand; when talking about fun places, the audience will laugh.
Taoyuan Library is a community library. We need to serve all residents in the community, and children's reading is also something we are particularly concerned about. We are all activities for children on Saturdays. Children will come to the library to sing, draw, and do handicrafts. But before doing these, we always have a reserved column, which is to read a book. I hope that for children, reading is everywhere.
In addition to reading everywhere, we also hope that libraries are everywhere.The SLOGAN of Taoyuan Library is "100,000 books around you". The focus is first around you. There are tens of millions of books in national map , but if you need to take a car over two hours, the utilization rate will be greatly reduced for ordinary people. In recent years, the experience of building libraries in the community tells us that a complete library can bring people far less happiness than a small library, right at your doorstep. There is an old friend in the library who has been shared by many book friends. We all call him Mr. Micha. He once calculated the distance from his home to our East Asia Shangbei Pavilion. He could get there in 9 minutes, so he is full of happiness. What is happier than this? Is there a library at the door of his home? If there is a front door and a back door in the community, is it double happiness? We now have three libraries in Huilongguan, which are within 3 kilometers of each other and 3 kilometers away. It takes dozens of minutes to walk. It is a bit far and not happy enough. So in 2017, we gave ourselves the task to make the libraries denser as much as possible.
