China News Service, Taipei, June 18th / The Kuomintang’s new cross-strait discourse is expected to be released tomorrow, and it is rumored that it will abandon the “1992 Consensus”. In response, Su Qi, the narrator of the 1992 Consensus and former Secretary-General of the "National Security Council", said in an interview after a new book publication meeting on the 17th that the Kuomintang did not want to abandon the 1992 Consensus, but other things can be added. The 1992 Consensus is not the only pillar, and there are many other ideas.
The Kuomintang was defeated in the 2020 general election, and the cross-strait discourse dominated by the 1992 Consensus was regarded as one of the main reasons. The Kuomintang Reform Commission is expected to make reform suggestions on the 19th, and cross-strait discourse is the top priority in reform. During the party discussion, although some people believed that the 1992 Consensus should be withdrawn from the frontline of the discourse, some people reminded that the adjustment of the cross-strait discourse will ultimately help the party comrades who are fighting the election on the frontline, so that they can easily explain the cross-strait discourse.
Comprehensive Taiwan media reports, Su Qi emphasized that the 1992 Consensus is very important and cannot be abolished, shelved, frozen, or abandoned, but the Kuomintang can add other things, and the final result will be announced by Chairman Jiang Qichen.
Su Qi said that there is only exchanges between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait because of the 1992 Consensus. President Bush Jr. and President Hu Jintao of the Mainland both publicly affirmed the 1992 Consensus, proving that the 1992 Consensus can communicate with the United States and the Mainland at the same time. Unfortunately, it has been stigmatized.
The DPP opposes the 1992 Consensus. Su Qi believes that it is because it is a thing of the Kuomintang, which is the standard "replacement of things based on people." As for the connection between the 1992 Consensus and one country, two systems, it is also Tsai Ing-wen's connection, not Xi Jinping. The 1992 Consensus can be used as an explanation of the "Republic of China", but Tsai's view of it as an explanation of "one country, two systems", which is wrong.
Su Qi pointed out that as a political party, the DPP may not like the 1992 Consensus, but if it does not have the 1992 Consensus, what do Taiwan want? The DPP has not made any new statement. The 1992 Consensus played the role of a bridge back then. The DPP didn’t want this bridge, but it was OK to build another bridge, but it did not tell the Taiwanese people how to build a bridge. This is where the DPP is sorry for the Taiwanese people.
