Recently, the "Combination of Chinese and Western - Tianjin Historical Architecture Picture Exhibition" hosted by Nankai University Library was held in the lobby of the second floor of the library of the Jinnan Campus.
As a national historical and cultural city, Tianjin has a profound historical and cultural heritage and unique cultural landscape, and is known as the "Wanguo Architecture Expo". Buildings with unique characteristics and stories witness the extraordinary past of this city, and silently pay attention to the present and future development of this city.
The pictures exhibited in this exhibition are divided into two categories: "traditional architecture" and "modern architecture". "Traditional architecture" records the urban changes that mainly focus on the development of the old city after Tianjin established a ward and built a city; "Modern architecture" tells the story of the treacherous situation since the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China, and is divided into office, finance, commerce, colleges, gardens, transportation, residence and other categories according to their purpose. The unique style of banks, shops and former residences of celebrities are a microcosm of Tianjin as an open portal and an economic center in the Three Norths. Each building is equipped with old photos taken in the early 20th century and new photos taken around 2014. Through the comparison between "old looks" and "new looks", visitors can feel the changes of the times and reminisce about the vicissitudes and prosperity of history.
In order to enhance the understanding and love between teachers and students of Nankai University, the library organized a collection of photos of historical buildings "First Knowing Tianjin". The exhibition will display the excellent works taken by teachers and students on-site. In addition, the collection of Tianjin's history and culture related books are also exhibited, allowing visitors to explore Tianjin's history and culture more deeply and systematically with the opportunity to understand architecture.
Wang Yilin, a student from Nankai who visited the exhibition, submitted her photography works. She said that the buildings in Tianjin Wudao and Italian-style district are very beautiful. Through visiting the exhibition, she has a deeper understanding of the stories carried by these buildings, making the buildings more vivid. Wang Yilin plans to use the Tianjin historical buildings in this exhibition as a reference to check in to more places.
The staff of Nankai University Library said that they look forward to more teachers and students visiting the Tianjin Historical Architecture Picture Exhibition in the library, and then walk out of the campus to experience the Tianjin historical buildings that combine Chinese and Western styles and blend ancient and modern times, and to feel the culture and warmth of this city.
