Guangzhou chi K11 Art Space

Katarina Gross : Nan Soil
March 30, 2019 - June 2, 2019
Single ticket: 80 yuan, double ticket: 135 yuan

This exhibition is based on Guangzhou K11 The art space brings three large immersive scene-related works, leading the audience through the labyrinth passage, providing a new interpretation of Gross' iconic artistic practice. The title of the exhibition "Whispering the Soil" comes from the Cantonese word "Ghost Eats the Mud", which means a state of being vague and being audible. In the space built by Gross, colors are like tremors of varying intensity and visual sound waves, visible and invisible, knowable and agnostic. The audience was invited into the works of art, just like hiking and climbing a mountain. The whole experience is an emotional and physical conversation that cannot be reduced to a linear narrative: it is a "whisper" that is constantly disconnected.

In the early 1990s, ceramics entered the vision of contemporary artists because of their unique visual characteristics and cultural orientation. With the help of the visual expression and symbolic meaning of this traditional media, artists have achieved intervention in social history and expression of individual experience, and have broken through the boundaries of materials to form an increasingly diverse ceramic creation ecology.
Based on this, the exhibition focuses on a group of artists who have had in-depth understanding and discussion of materials and concepts since the new century. In the context of new social history and contemporary art in the 21st century, they further thought about the relationship between conceptual language and material boundaries, that is, when ceramics intervene in contemporary art, they should not only serve as symbolic and visual material carriers, but also take into account the importance of ontological language in the exploration of conceptual expression, forming the interpenetration and mutual interaction between materiality and conceptuality of ceramic materials.

[17~131km/h Friction] Xu Ruiqian Solo Exhibition
April 13, 2019 — On May 26, 2019,
Free

Xu Ruiqianfu graduated from the Department of Sculpture of Taiwan University of the Arts and was selected as the "Space Art" selection in the 2019 "Kaohsiung Award". He was recognized by the "Tainan New Art Award" in March of the same year. He exhibited two installation works at Soka Art. He used his sculptures to reflect on the painting nature of "points, lines, and surfaces". Through the kinetic energy of knocking, pulling and friction, the iron parts have a dual coexistence of heaviness and lightness. The visual experience brought to the viewer seems to awaken unknown consciousness, or continue to explore in a blurred state, and emphasize the most direct feelings brought by physical experience.
In this new solo exhibition, the name "17~131km/h" reveals more daily life trajectories. We can travel slowly at a speed of 17 kilometers per hour, and we can run wildly on an unmanned street with all our might. From slow to fast, we each chose different speeds to live. In this solo exhibition, you can also see a combination of many daily objects, such as towels, soap, glass, tiles, etc. in the "Bathroom" series. These symbols have been unknowingly stereotyped. However, through the artist's interpretation, daily familiar objects can quickly establish a bridge of dialogue with the viewer.
