On October 18, on the birthday of Foxconn founder and president Terry Gou, three electric cars under Foxconn: MODEL C (pure electric SUV), MODEL E (pure electric sedan) and MODEL T (electric bus) were officially unveiled. This marks that Foxconn has taken its first step in the field of vehicle manufacturing in addition to OEM for others.
Interestingly, all of Foxconn’s three electric cars are a name for Tesla. I don't believe that this name collision incident was just a coincidence for Foxconn. Foxconn may have deliberately used this name collision to announce to the automotive industry that it is really coming and has great ambitions.

Foxconn's three new cars all come from the Hon Hai (MIH EV) electric vehicle platform developed by its parent company Hon Hai Group and Yulon Automobile. The launch of this platform shows Foxconn's determination to continue on the road of car manufacturing. Because an exclusive electric platform marks the more sophisticated internal structure and layout of electric vehicles.
From the specific model, the Model C is positioned as a mid-sized SUV with a maximum power of 300kW, a peak torque of 700N·m, an acceleration time of 100 kilometers is 3.8 seconds, and an estimated range of 700km. The car will be launched in Taiwan in 2023. Hon Hai said that the price of Model C is expected to be in double digits of NT$ (about no more than 230,000 yuan), entering the price range of Tesla Model 3.
MODEL E is positioned as a medium-sized business luxury sedan with a length of 5.1 meters and a wheelbase of 3.1 meters. The volumetric design is similar to that of Audi A6. The maximum power of the car is 550kW and the acceleration time of 100 kilometers is 2.8 seconds. The overall range is expected to be 750km.
The last electric bus MODEL T has a maximum power of 260kW and a peak torque of 700N·m. It is reported that the vehicle has completed a durability test of 200,000 kilometers and a rigid strength test of more than 1,000 hours. It will start commercial operation in parts of Taiwan next year.
Bold or insurance?
Whether it is power or battery life, just looking at the data, these three new cars from Foxconn still have a fight in the current new energy market.
Although Foxconn's car manufacturing behavior seems to be bold, in fact, Foxconn has its own "airbag". The three new cars released this time are all created by a joint venture between Hon Hai Group and Yulon. Yulon is a local automobile manufacturing company in Taiwan. It has a history of nearly 70 years of automobile manufacturing. It is currently the largest automobile group in Taiwan. It once established Dongfeng Yulon in a joint venture with Dongfeng Motor and has sufficient car manufacturing experience in mainland China. Therefore, Foxconn has a good fit in cooperation with Yulon, both in terms of culture and business needs.
Want to be the Android in the automotive industry?
In addition to the new car itself, a highlight of Foxconn's car manufacturing this time is also the "MIH EV electric vehicle platform" mentioned just mentioned earlier.
Foxconn said that the original models of these three new cars are "reference versions" for brand customers to plan their new electric car products, and can only be launched for sale after subsequent changes according to customer needs.
Simply put, Foxconn's platform is not just for itself to build cars. Its ultimate goal is to allow more brands to choose MIH as their production platform for pure electric vehicles, so that car companies can develop the required models with the lowest cost and the shortest time based on MIH.
