Of course, to this day, iPhone is still the Lightning interface. The reason why Apple still retains the Lightning interface is obvious: you can make money by selling MFI chips. Accessories manufacturers can only pass the MFI certification by purchasing Apple's own MFI chips on the charger. Otherwise, there will be a prompt that there is a problem with the accessories when charging the iPhone.
However, the Lightning interface now seems to limit the development of the iPhone: the special interface makes it difficult for many Apple users to charge normally, and the iPhone charging problem that has been criticized is in 2021. Only the latest super-large iPhone 13 Pro Max uses 27W fast charging, while other models are still 20W. This charging power now seems a bit out of place with Android manufacturers.
However, from the overall trend, among recent generations of products, Apple intends to strengthen the fast charging power of iPhone. Since the USB-C interface became popular to today, Apple fans have been waiting for five years.
According to Apple's style, the new technology has basically been upgraded from the Pro version. In addition, it is positioned as a more professional Pro version, especially in image and video recording, users have higher requirements for transmission speed. At present, the Lightning interface is still at the USB2.0 speed. The speed of transmission from iPhone to computer is too slow, which greatly affects work efficiency. In addition, in recent years, both the United States and the European Union have been intentionally promoting the unification of charging interfaces.
If the iPhone 14 Pro really replaces the C port next year, it also means that the Type-C charging port will be a major trend for iPhone in the future, which will have a great impact on Apple and accessories manufacturers. First of all, replacing the Type-C charging port means that you can share a set of chargers with Android phones, which can be used from the socket. However, it is not ruled out that Apple still uses the maximum charging power of the iPhone through MFI certification. Although it increases the difficulty of identifying consumers, it is also possible that only the C-port charger that has passed the MFI certification can be used normally by the iPhone.
Android manufacturers mainly use the fast charging protocol. The fast charging protocols of each brand are different. Only by using their own brand’s chargers can the maximum charging power be exerted, and Apple users will also have this style.
For accessory manufacturers, the iPhone needs to be specially equipped on new accessories and is compatible with other models. I don’t think Apple will give up the MFI certification of this big fat meat. Of course, some answers will be revealed, and the iPhone 14 Pro will be released next year!
