1952, according to the national construction and development needs, the country decided to make a major adjustment to the national college system and establish universities and secondary colleges with various specialized disciplines and majors. Our school was established in 1952, the "Southwest Construction Engineering School" founded by the Construction Engineering Administration of the Southwest Military and Political Committee Finance and Economic Committee and the "Chongqing First Civil Construction School" newly established by the Southwest Ministry of Industry. In the spring of 1953, the Central Construction Engineering Department decided to merge the above two schools to establish the "Chongqing Construction Engineering School". The new campus site is selected in Shapingba, Chongqing Education and Cultural District. The school is led by the Ministry of Construction and Engineering and the Secondary Technical Education Department of the Ministry of Higher Education, and has created a glorious journey in the initial stage of our school.
1956 was established in the Ministry of Building Materials Industry. In October 1958, the Education Bureau of the Ministry of Construction and Construction notified the school: "The Ministry decided to change the task of your school to a higher education institution that trains building materials industry cadres. The school name is "Chongqing Building Materials Industry College".
In the next 15 years, due to the multiple separations and integration of the two departments of Construction and Building Materials, the name, campus site and school level of our school have changed many times, and the teachers and students of the school have also experienced severe training. In 1958, the school recruited silicate However, in July of the following year, the Ministry of Education Bureau called the school to instruct the school to "develop into a single-class non-metal mining school in the future" and decided to abolish the silicate major. In 1960, the school instructed the school to become a college of mining. Previously, in 1959, according to the regulations of the Ministry of Construction and Construction, it had recruited 60 undergraduate students from mining majors. In 1960-1961, the school recruited non-metal deposit mining, non-metal geological exploration, non-metal mine electromechanical , and asbestos and 5-year college students in four majors: asbestos products. However, undergraduate students in mining majors quickly transferred to Beijing Building Materials Industry College in accordance with the instructions of the Education Bureau of the Ministry of Construction and Engineering. In 1960, according to the Sichuan Provincial Higher Education Bureau's comment on the compression of college and technical secondary school education: "All 5-year colleges that have been newly established within 1960 will be abolished." Our school's 5-year colleges will be changed to 4-year junior colleges, including geological exploration, mining, asbestos products, mechanical and electrical engineering, and silicate engineering. In 1962, the Ministry of Construction and Technology issued the "On the Ministry's Technical Colleges and Technical Colleges" Notice on school name change, our school was renamed Chongqing Building Materials Industrial School. In November 1964, the Ministry of Construction and Engineering decided to merge our school with Xuzhou Technical School to move to Shimian County , and change it to a semi-working and semi-study school. Due to the firm resistance of Xuzhou Technical School and the two parts of Construction and Building Materials opened in April 1965, the Education Department of the Ministry of Building Materials did not agree to our school’s relocation to Shimian County, and issued a notice on June 1 of that year, “You will not move this year. Whether to move to asbestos next year will be studied and decided later in the second half of the year. "Therefore, the order to relocate asbestos was not implemented. It was not until September 1965 that the Ministry of Building Materials notified that "the relocation of asbestos according to the original decision of the Ministry of Construction and Construction will be carried out to carry out semi-working and half-study education. The school should be relocated in February next year. "At this time, the school also officially mobilized all teachers and students to carry out the relocation work, and the relocation was basically completed in March 1966. After arriving at the asbestos, it was renamed as "Sichuan Non-Metal Mining Semi-Tech School of the Ministry of Building Materials Industry" (because the school name was too long, it was later referred to as "Sichuan Mining School"), and the new school name and seal were officially opened on February 4, 1966 (according to the "Sichuan Building Materials College School History" p.124). It should be noted here that the change of the school name was written as November 1964 in the "History of Southwest University of Science and Technology" was written as November 1964, which is inconsistent with historical facts. (The rename time recorded in the document was February 4, 1966. This mistake may be because the book was published before the assessment of the teaching level of colleges and universities that year, and the original file was not carefully reviewed. The reason for the case. )
1973 finally ended the school's tortuous and undulating development difficulties for many years. Under the leadership of the school's Party Committee, the faculty and staff, under the leadership of the school's Party Committee, withstood the tempering of the 8 years of difficult environment in asbestos. Everyone is loyal to the cause of education, work hard, and forge ahead. With the support of superiors, they moved to the former site of a construction company in Mianyang City East in the spring of 1974 to build the school, and renamed it as Sichuan Building Materials Industrial School on May 7, 1975, entering a stable development stage.
1978 our school was upgraded to Sichuan Building Materials Industrial College, officially starting the undergraduate education process. At the end of that year, the Mianyang Branch of Tsinghua University moved back to Beijing headquarters. After consultation with the State Building Materials Administration and the Sichuan Provincial Government, the site of Tsinghua University Mianyang Branch was handed over to Sichuan University of Building Materials Industry for use through the purchase method of the State Building Materials Administration. In the spring of 1979, the main body of the school moved to the site of Tsinghua University Mianyang Branch, which is now the western district of the headquarters of Southwest University of Science and Technology.
In August 1993, the State Education Commission approved the Sichuan University of Building Materials Industry to change its leadership and management system and rename it Southwest University of Technology. After agreeing to implement joint school management, Southwest Institute of Technology is jointly led by the State Building Materials Bureau and the Mianyang Municipal Government. It is mainly based on the State Building Materials Bureau and forms the board of directors of relevant large enterprises and institutions to participate in the management. The board of directors of Southwest Institute of Technology was immediately officially established.
1998, the state decided to implement a school management system with central departments and local governments for 81 universities under the jurisdiction of the ministry, and mainly governed by provincial management. Southwest University of Technology has become a school dominated by Sichuan Province, and the vice governor in charge of universities serves as chairman of the school board of directors. At the end of December of that year, the Mianyang Municipal Party Committee decided to incorporate Mianyang Textile and Silk into the Adult Education College of Southwest Institute of Technology.
In 2000, Southwest University of Technology seized the historical opportunity of the formal launch of the construction of China (Mianyang) Science and Technology City and merged with Mianyang Economic and Technical College to form Southwest University of Science and Technology . The board of directors of Southwest University of Science and Technology was established. Our school has entered the fast lane of coordinated development of scale-structure-quality-efficiency. Then we began a new journey of building a high-level university with distinctive characteristics, writing a glorious new chapter of the school's rapid and sustainable development.
