Nobel Prize will be released from today to October 7th. Chem-Station, the largest website for academic news in Japan's chemistry field, will list the popular list of possible awards for Nobel Prize chemistry this year. Chem-Station lists a total of 79 possible winners of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry this year, including organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry , analytical chemistry , biochemistry , physical chemistry, supramolecular chemistry, material chemistry , energy chemistry, medicinal chemistry, and theoretical chemistry. Among them, in the field of organic chemistry, Weng Qihui ranked among the popular candidates for "contribution to polysaccharide synthesis".
The research on the programmatic automatic synthesis of polysaccharide molecules invented by Weng Qihui and the large-scale synthesis of complex polysaccharide bodies and glycoprotein using enzyme technology is the first in the world. In 2014, it won the Wolf Prize in Chemistry , which is regarded as the Nobel Prize outpost, won the Robinson Prize of the Royal Chemistry Association in 2015, and won the Willshi Chemistry Prize in 2021, so it has become a popular candidate for the Nobel Prize winner.
Weng Qihui is currently a professor of chemistry at the Scripps Institute, a special researcher at the Gene Societies Research Center of the Central Academy of Research and the president of the National Biotechnology and Medical Industry Leading Association. Weng Qihui is the first scientist in the world to develop automated synthesis of polysaccharides and mass-produce sugar molecules and glycoproteins using the enzyme method. He has also applied sugar science to cancer vaccines, sugar chips, sugar probes, glycoproteins, broad-acting influenza vaccines, and broad-acting COVID-19 vaccines, which has changed the scientific community's understanding of sugar molecules and has a significant impact on the research of functional gene body science and the development of new drugs.
