The COVID-19 epidemic in Hong Kong is severe, and local confirmed cases of unknown origin have continued to appear recently, and the situation has not been controlled. The SAR government announced a new round of epidemic prevention measures on the 22nd, including expanding places where masks are mandatory and tightening entry controls for people arriving in Hong Kong in high-risk areas.
Director of the Food and Health Bureau of the SAR Government Chen Zhaoshi met with the media on the afternoon of the 22nd and said that according to the revised Hong Kong law, citizens must wear masks in all public transportation and indoor public places, and violators are violated. The government will issue a gazette and specify relevant requirements. The measures will be implemented from the 23rd and will be temporarily for 14 days. In terms of entry control, those who have stayed in the United States, Kazakhstan , Bangladesh , India, Indonesia , Nepal , Pakistan , Philippines and South Africa within 14 days before arrival in Hong Kong must present a negative COVID-19 test certificate within 72 hours and a confirmation for Hong Kong hotel reservation for at least 14 days before boarding the plane. The measures will take effect at 0:00 am on the 29th of this month until further notice.
Chen Zhaoshi said that since there are no signs of slowing down locally and globally, the SAR government will extend the validity period of public health emergency regulations. Among them, the validity period of the regulations on the 14th of those arriving in Hong Kong by mainland China, Macao and Taiwan will be extended to September 7; the validity period of the regulations on the catering industry and designated premises will be extended to December 31.
Chen Zhaoshi emphasized that the SAR government has comprehensively considered factors such as public health, economic activities and social acceptance. When the epidemic is stable, relevant measures can be appropriately relaxed, but if the epidemic continues to worsen, it is not ruled out that stricter epidemic prevention measures will be introduced in the future.
According to the number of the SAR Government Hospital Administration Bureau , as of the 21st, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in Hong Kong was 2019, of which 1,324 patients have recovered and discharged, and 14 others have died. The remaining confirmed patients are still undergoing isolation treatment in 14 public hospitals.
