China News Service Chengdu, September 5 (Reporters Wang Peng and Liu Zhongjun) The reporter learned from Sichuan Provincial Earthquake Bureau on September 5 that according to the 6.8-magnitude earthquake disaster in Luding, Sichuan, the highest intensity of this earthquake reached 9 degrees.
It is reported that the epicenter of this earthquake is located in Moxi Town, Luding County, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, 239 kilometers away from Luding County, 253 kilometers away from Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, 221 kilometers away from Chengdu City, and 270 kilometers away from Ganzi Kangding Airport. The total population of Moxi Town in the epicenter is 6,900, and the population density is 22 people per square kilometer (sparsely populated area).

According to the Sichuan earthquake disaster rapid assessment system, the highest intensity of the earthquake reaches ⅰ degree (9 degrees). The area of Ⅵ degree (6 degrees) and above is about 130.11.65 square kilometers, with a population of about 580,000. It is estimated that casualties may be caused. According to the results of the disaster assessment, approximately 2,500-5,000 rescue forces are needed. Most of the earthquake areas belong to the hilly plateau mountainous areas in northwestern Sichuan. The average altitude of 3266 meters within a range of 50 kilometers of the epicenter, the highest altitude is 7142 meters, the lowest altitude is 844 meters, and the epicenter is 2841 meters. The active faults near the epicenter include the Xianshuihe fault zone, the Jinpingshan fault, the Xianshuihe fault, the southern section of the Xianshuihe fault, and the Dadu River fault. The closest fault to the epicenter is the Xianshuihe fault zone. Luding County is an ecological economic zone in northwest Sichuan. According to the fifth-generation zoning map, the earthquake resistance intensity of in this area is Ⅷ degree (8 degrees).
In terms of historical earthquakes, 10 earthquakes of magnitude 5.0 or above occurred in 50 kilometers around the epicenter. The largest earthquake was the magnitude 7.75 earthquake in Luding, Sichuan. The closest to the earthquake was the magnitude 5.0 earthquake (24 kilometers) in space, and the closest to the earthquake was the magnitude 5.0 earthquake in northwest of Sichuan Asbestos (June 1989).
Luding County was included in the earthquake hazard zone from Sichuan Daofu to Qiaojia, Yunnan (about magnitude 7) in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021.
