De Blasio said at a press conference on the 2nd: "Why wait when you can be protected? To protect yourself from the worst effects of the new coronavirus, it makes no sense to delay vaccination. We will continue to promote this concept.”
De Blasio is very concerned about the promotion of the new crown vaccine in New York City. He said New York City is on track to reach its goal of administering 5 million doses of the vaccine in June. “Thanks to the partnership now between Johnson & Johnson and the government, 100 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine are expected to be available nationwide by June, which will make a difference,” de Blasio added.
De Blasio also said that so far, New York City has vaccinated more than 2 million doses of the new crown vaccine for people, and more than 1 million people have received at least the first dose of the vaccine, accounting for about 13.1% of the city's total population.
New York City administered 76,000 doses of vaccine on February 26, setting a new single-day high. The New York City government also hopes to rely on the Johnson & Johnson vaccine to further expand the scale of vaccination. De Blasio said that New York City has the capacity to vaccinate 500,000 doses per week. Last week, a total of 338,000 doses of vaccine were administered in the five major New York boroughs.
