The day before yesterday, a 1-year-old boy Kaikai recovered and was discharged from the hospital in Huai'an . Four months ago, her parents discovered a "horn" growing on Kaikai's head. I didn't take it seriously at first, but as months passed, the bulge didn't subside. After going to the hospital for an investigation, it was discovered that this was a rare intracranial teratoma.
Du Yongchun, attending physician at the Pediatric Surgery Department of Huaian Maternal and Child Health Hospital: The examination revealed that the child had a bulge of a little more than one centimeter on the left temporal region, which felt like a lump under the scalp. A CT scan revealed that the lump had invaded the skull.
The doctor performed the surgery on Kaikai. During the operation, it was discovered that the location of the mass and the examination results were different, making the situation more complicated. This mass has completely invaded the skull and entered the outside of the dura mater. In other words, it is considered an intracranial mass.
The doctor made a small incision on the edge of the mass and accurately removed the 1.5 cm diameter mass. Later, tests revealed that the mass contained a lot of hair, so it was basically considered to be a teratoma .
Pathology showed that the teratoma removed from Kaikai’s brain was benign and had a good prognosis. Teratomas originate from germ cells and are divided into mature teratomas and immature teratomas. The reason why teratoma is associated with "teratoma" is because benign teratoma often contains grease, hair, teeth and even bones. These things are like the products of a malformed embryo. They were once misunderstood as "teratomas", but teratomas have nothing to do with teratomas.
