Low-voltage small businesses must use more than 1,500 kilowatt-hours of electricity, and residential electricity must have more than 1,000 kilowatt-hours as the threshold for increase. However, movie theaters, shopping malls, supermarkets, etc. will not increase their prices to make up for the losses caused by the epidemic.
In summer, electricity consumption is large and the temperature is high. Taipower's estimate of a maximum capacity of 40 million kilowatts this year will soon be exceeded, which will pose a major challenge to power supply. Therefore, increasing electricity prices has become an unavoidable issue.
Taipower stated that electricity prices have not increased in four years. Taiwan's "Ministry of Economic Affairs", which originally preferred not to increase electricity prices, recently announced that global fuel prices have soared due to the impact of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Electricity prices in Taiwan are quite low, so the price increase request is reasonable.
It is understood that Taipower’s electricity price versions include average electricity price increases of 8%, 10%, etc. However, considering the impact of the epidemic on the economy, the 5% increase version is more acceptable. The current average electricity price per kilowatt hour is NT$2.62. If it increases by 5%, it will be adjusted to NT$2.76.

According to statistics, there are currently 14 million households in Taiwan, and users with electricity consumption of more than 1,000 kilowatt hours account for about 5%.
