Floor layout before renovation
This is a 100-square-meter homestead [without public stalls]. The floor height is 3.3 meters, which I have always admired the most. It is said that it was popular to install electric fans and ceiling fans in the past. The wind power is strong enough and it is the best choice for the living room in summer. Therefore, the height needs to be considered. In order to increase the bearing capacity, cement beams were poured into the central axis of the living room, which also caused a feng shui disadvantage of the beams in the middle of the living room pressing on the top.
The biggest problem with this house type is the location of the kitchen. In fact, the original design was for the dining room. My mother said that in order to make it easier to access the stored items, she used the space under the stairwell to store rice, oil, and salt to avoid light. And there really weren’t that many electrical appliances to place in the past.
My biggest dissatisfaction is that the stove is juxtaposed with the bathroom door. This is one of the reasons why I don’t like to go to the kitchen. The advantage is probably that you don’t need to lose weight. I really don’t have any interest in making delicious food, so I can barely stand for two people.
Another problem is that the bathroom is too far from the room. Nowadays, elderly people in their 70s and 80s will fall when walking. The road to the bathroom is more than 10 meters, and handrails will be added in the future.

Floor layout after renovation
1. The stairs are removed and the stairwell + kitchen are in their original positions. Can do my favorite island setup. And if conditions permit to install an elevator, the space will be satisfactory.
2. The original bathroom was used as a storage room to increase the usable area and add stairs. [Currently, the upper floor of the bathroom is a mezzanine storage layer, but it is inconvenient to get up and down.] You can connect the island to the back of the suspended ceiling and add channel steel. Approximately 20 square meters can be added.
3. The bathroom has been moved to the master room exclusively [currently a bicycle room]. It is designed with double doors so that guests can enter and exit through the living room door without passing through the master room. Add a sink, balcony, and washing machine outside the bathroom. [Currently, we are doing laundry on the second floor and going to the top floor to dry it. 】
4. My mother’s beloved clothes cart is placed near the window of the master room. Her handicrafts are excellent.
5. Install home audio and video equipment in the guest room, because my mother likes to watch Cantonese opera , but she can't find the channel.
6. Make a small book bar under the stairwell in the living room. Mom likes the reading atmosphere and loves reading and practicing calligraphy.
7. The original entrance door is offset and its position must be adjusted.
8. The ceiling in the living room covers the beams.
