The first term appeared in Song Shu: During the Northern and Southern Dynasties, Princess Shanyin was extravagant and prosperous. She told her brother Liu Ziye, the emperor Liu Song: "My Majesty, although we are different between men and women, we are all children of the first emperor. There are tens of thousands of beauties in the Sixth Palace of Your Majesty, and I have only one person. This is too unfair, how can one do it!" So the emperor arranged the first 30 people for the princess. From this point of view, Mianshou is actually a male favorite, but the ancients called it euphemistic.
After Wu Zetian was widowed for many years, the princess who was pleased with him sent a man named Xue Huaiyi. Although Xue Huaiyi was a small shopkeeper who sold wild medicines in Luoyang city, he was attracted by the aging Wu Zetian because of his long body and burly physique.
However, the forbidden area of the palace is not accessible to everyone. Wu Zetian, who has always believed in Buddhism, packaged Xue Huaiyi into a monk who eats fast and reciting the Buddha, and summoned it every three and five times to have a tryst in the name of chanting.
Although the emperor is ruthless, the contented empress really spoiled Xue Huaiyi. In 685, Wu Zetian asked Xue Huaiyi to supervise the construction of the White Horse Temple. After the completion of the temple, let Xue Huaiyi be the host of the White Horse Temple. In 688, Wu Zetian ordered Xue Huaiyi to build a Mingtang with a height of more than three hundred feet, and then to build a paradise second to Mingtang. After the completion, Xue Huaiyi was worshipped as General Zuo Weiwei and named Liang Guogong. In 689 and 693, under the name of crusade against the Turks, meritorious deeds were falsely used as military merits, and then they were rewarded and awarded.
Xue Huaiyi found a "Great Cloud Scripture", and then widely publicized it, saying that the Queen Mother was Maitreya's birth and would surely replace the rule of the Tang Dynasty in order to build momentum for Wu Zetian as emperor. Based on this, Xue Huaiyi paid homage to General Zuo Weiwei, the third-ranked Zheng.
After that, Xue Huaiyi was tired of entering the palace to accompany Wu Zetian. He didn't chant the scriptures in the temple every day, and ran into the street, riding a tall horse, rampaging in the city of Luoyang. Anyone who didn't hide enough in time would be beaten by them immediately. Blood flow. Especially when you see a Taoist priest, you must catch them, shave their hair, and be a monk with him.
Xue Huaiyi is also very rude to officials. At that time, there was a Yushi who could not see what he did and impeached him in accordance with the law. Xue Huaiyi was blocked on the road and beaten half to death.
On the fifteenth day of the first lunar month of 695, Xue Huaiyi commanded his men to dig a five-foot-deep pit on the ground of Mingtang. Buddha statues were pre-buried in the pit and the organs were installed. Slowly pull the Buddha statue from the bottom of the pit until it reaches the palace built of colored silk. From the side, it looked like a Buddha statue leaped out of the ground.
drew a 200-foot-tall Buddha statue with ox blood and hung it on the Tianjin Bridge, and then told Wu Zetian that it was painted with his own blood by cutting his knees to win his favor. But Wu Zetian just smiled faintly and ignored it.
When the suspicious Xue Huaiyi learned that it was Wu Zetian who turned a blind eye to him, he became jealous because of his new favorite, Shen Nanmiao. From the same day (17th) onwards, he rushed to heaven to set the fire, and the fire quickly spread to Mingtang, and the wind was violent and it burned more and more vigorously. "The fire is like the day in the city. When it dawns, the magnificent heaven, the Mingtang and the unique Jiada Buddha are all burned out."
In order to build the Mingtang, the heaven and the big Buddha, countless manpower was spent. , Material and financial resources. After Mingtang and Heaven were completed, Wu Zetian not only held the national ceremony here, but also held grand Buddhist activities. It is a pity that these two "heavens" on earth were built only seven years ago, and they were reduced to ashes in one night. Wu Zetian was very sad. But because of face, Wu Zetian not only failed to impose punishment on Xue Huaiyi, the arsonist who fired in Heaven and Mingtang, but also ordered him to be responsible for reconstruction.
Seeing that Wu Zetian did not punish himself, Xue Huaiyi was even more brazen, and he was not respectful when talking to Wu Zetian. An angry Wu Zetian asked Wu Youning to take more than a hundred people, grabbed Xue Huaiyi to the tree in front of Yaoguang Hall where he had a tryst, beat Xue Huaiyi to death with a stick, and then sent the body to Baima Temple for burning.
