In October 1952, because of the flooding of Yellow River , Chairman Mao personally went to Henan for inspection. Looking at the turbulent Yellow River water , the Chairman was in a heavy mood: "We must do our best to manage the Yellow River!"
That night, the leaders of Henan Province wanted to listen to the Chairman's teachings more, and the group waited early in the Red Western Building of Henan Military Region, which was where the Chairman stayed.
After Chairman arrived, he hadn't said a few words before he noticed one of them. He was a little overjoyed for a moment and quickly stepped forward and held the other party's hand. This person was no one else, but the chairman's old acquaintance - Bi Zhanyun.
"My Battalion Commander Bi, it has been 20 years since the farewell of Jinggangshan . Where have you been?"
At this time, Bi Zhanyun was already the deputy commander of the Henan Military Region. The reason why the chairman called him Battalion Commander Bi was also a soul-stirring past.
Bi Zhanyun is not only a senior general of our army, but also a successful contributor, but also the first person to lead the uprising in the Kuomintang generals that year, setting a precedent for the Kuomintang army to join the Red Army in an integrated system and a complete battalion.
It is said that Bi Zhanyun’s friendship with our army is really a kindness Yuntian existence. The reason why the Chairman and him still miss him for 20 years is due to Bi Zhanyun’s outstanding contribution in our military history.
Born in Guang'an, Sichuan in 1903, he was a subordinate of Xiang Chengjie of the Sichuan Army during the Great Revolution. During the Yan Zhongru brigade of the Hunan warlord Tang Shengzhi's army to block the Red Army's attack on southeastern Hunan. Just when the Kuomintang army and various warlords were eager to peel off the Red Army's skin and cramps, Bi Zhanyun had a different view on this.
In his opinion, in times of crisis, it was really unnecessary to kill each other. When he privately decided to let go of two Communist subordinates, he was gradually excluded from the internal forces. At this moment, he received a joint letter written to him by the leaders of the Red Army.
In the letter, our army analyzed for him the usual tricks of excluding dissidents, cultivating close friends, and forming cliques for personal gain for him, which also made Bi Zhanyun deeply realize that he and his subordinates were like scapegoats in the Kuomintang army. Since he wanted to contribute to defending his country, why not choose the Red Army team that was deeply supported by the working people?
Therefore, after careful consideration, Bi Zhanyun finally decided to join the Red Army. This was the brightest way out for him and his subordinates. Even though this decision was accidentally discovered by Yan Zhongru later, Bi Zhanyun was still facing life worries, and he still did not change his original intention.
On October 26, 1928, Bi Zhanyun led his troops to rush to Ciping, Jinggangshan, and Chen Yi came to greet him in person. Since then, Bi Zhanyun officially became the battalion commander of the Red 4th Army Special Battalion, and his old subordinates led by him have also embarked on a bright revolutionary cause.
In Bi Zhanyun's memory, the Chairman personally came to the secret service camp to understand the situation. He was extremely concerned about the living conditions of cadres and soldiers. He always gave everyone political education, which greatly encouraged everyone.
After that, "fight the world with the Chairman" became Bi Zhanyun's life creed. In fact, his arrival was also a powerful encouragement to the Chairman.
Still remember what the Chairman said when he was anxiously waiting for Bi Zhanyun to lead his troops to come: "The Bi Zhanyun Uprising is really important, it has a precedent for the development of the Red Army!"
It can be imagined that Bi Zhanyun, who helped the Red Army open up a new situation, will not be easily forgotten by the Chairman no matter what. This is also why the Chairman was still full of emotion when the two met again 20 years later.
1. After begging, Bi Zhanyun did prove his patriotic sincerity with his own actions. Especially on the way to the Long March 2, he suffered more hardships than other Red Army veterans. This experience is also moving.
It turns out that after entering the Tibetan area, Bi Zhanyun accidentally got separated from the team. He was alone. In order to avoid the pursuers, he hid in the snow-capped mountains and woods during the day, and could only return to the Tibetan home to have a good sleep at night.
In order to find the Red Army as soon as possible, Bi Zhanyun came all the way to the bank of the Yellow River under the cover of Tibetans, and then embarked on a difficult journey.
After coming to Lanzhou, under the cover of white terror, Bi Zhanyun not only could not find any trace of the large army, but also used up all his money and food, so he could only beg all the way to Xi'an.
No one knows what he had experienced back then. From Xi'an to northern Shaanxi, he went all the way to Luochuan and finally got news of the Red Army. When his comrades saw Bi Zhanyun again, he was covered in sores, and pus and blood were still emitting in many places.
encountered such hardships, Bi Zhanyun still adhered to the revolutionary ideal in his heart. Most importantly, he never forgot the Red Army’s trust and reuse of him.
After a period of rest, Bi Zhanyun returned to the revolutionary ranks and was appointed as deputy director of the First Bureau of the Central Military Commission.
2. Make every effort to ensure Huaihai Battle victory
During the War of Liberation, Bi Zhanyun led his troops to annihilate the elite of the Kuomintang army many times. At the end of October 1948, on the eve of the Huaye and Zhongye launched the Huaihai Battle, the Henan-Anhui-Su Branch established the Support Command in accordance with the instructions of the Central Plains Bureau, and Bi Zhanyun served as the commander.
Don’t think that the logistics support work behind the war is easy. From military rations to material transportation, Bi Zhanyun has invested a lot of energy, especially after the 10th day of the war, the use of food and grass and stretchers has increased sharply, and the consumption of personnel and livestock during the transportation process are testing the commander’s allocation ability.
In order to ensure the supply on the front line, Bi Zhanyun established a system similar to the political work and life management of the troops. Military-civilian cooperation has achieved unprecedented concerted efforts, and many seemingly unsolvable problems have been solved.
After the second phase of the Huaihai Campaign entered the Huaihai Campaign, many newly liberated cities experienced serious shortage of food and vegetable supply. Even so, Bi Zhanyun still insisted on completing the task of supporting the front line with quality and quantity. The people in the old district even shouted the slogan "Spend all your money and support the front line."
Under his leadership, the entire district raised more than 300 million kilograms of grain, which exceeded the amount by more than 1 times. After the battle, the remaining grain reached more than 140 million kilograms, which were all used to relieve the affected people in the war zone.
So, what Chen Yi said back then, "The victory of the Huaihai Battle was launched by the people with small cars." This sentence is true, and Bi Zhanyun made an indelible contribution to this.
Conclusion
In fact, in the revolutionary journey that year, the Chairman also knew Bi Zhanyun's many efforts, and it was because Bi Zhanyun did make indelible and eye-catching good results. Unfortunately, after the separation of Jinggangshan, the two people could not meet again due to the revolution, but Bi Zhanyun has always insisted on "fighting the world with the Chairman."
This is how the Chairman was so excited when he met his old subordinates when he met in 1952. Although the Chairman has seen too many Kuomintang officers who led his troops to revolt in an uprising over the years, in his heart, Bi Zhanyun was always the most special one. He is the eternal "Battery Commander Bi" in the Chairman's heart.
