So why did Mr. Peng say that? What happened to this secretary in the end?
01 Participate in the revolution
This secretary of President Peng is not an ordinary person. He is an outstanding literary talent and was a famous talent in all corners of the country when he was a young man. Zheng Wenhan was born in , Luoyang, Henan, , in 1920. The scenery is picturesque and the humanistic atmosphere is strong. Since ancient times, it has been a place for talented people to practice literature. In 1938, the Anti-Japanese War broke out, and the people of the whole country rose up to resist, and Zheng Wenhan was no exception. He chose to participate in the revolution. The young man was full of passion and thought of going to fight to kill the enemy.
However, the organization arranged for him to study at the Eighth Route Army Military and Political College and the Anti-Japanese Military and Political College. After graduation, he served as the captain and officer of a certain district. Later, Mao Weiren proposed to let those who have no front-line work experience go to the army for training. In 1942, Zheng Wenhan entered General Wang Zhen's 359th Brigade. During this period, he participated in the battles of Liberating Xin'an, Mengxian and other battles and grew rapidly.
02War of the Liberation War
Later in the War of Resistance Against Japan, Zheng Wenhan's troops headed south to the Northeast battlefield to participate in local combat operations. At this time, the Fourth Field led by Lin Biao began to organize personnel to form a column, and Zheng Wenhan served as the director of the regiment-level political department in the 10th column. Under the leadership of Commander Liang Xingchu, the entire 10th Column Army fought tenaciously, fought bravely in the Black Mountain sniper battle, and defended the position with difficulty. Zheng Wenhan also showed his heroic performance. He led a small wave of internal staff, and the reconnaissance company to find the right time to surprise and take down a high ground of the Kuomintang.
Although the swords and swords were on the battlefield, Zheng Wenhan tied the knot in the artillery fire. What's even more amazing is that his wife is the doll kiss that her parents ordered when they were young. These two people have not met for 11 years. In order to keep their promise, Zheng Wenhan went to the newspaper to find someone, and finally found him. In fact, since he has participated in the revolution, he does not need to abide by the arranged marriages before, but Zheng Wenhan is pure and must execute what he promised.
03 Secretary Peng Dehuai
After the founding of New China, Zheng Wenhan, as the director of the Political Department of the North Korean Armistice Committee, followed the Volunteer Army to fight in North Korea, and made great efforts for the armistice negotiations in the later stage of the war. Zheng Wenhan, who had outstanding abilities and pure party spirit, was quickly recognized by the organization. In 1955, he was transferred to the Ministry of National Defense to serve as the secretary of the minister's office. Since then, Zheng Wenhan has begun to draft documents, write speeches, etc. for Peng Dehuai.
Zheng Wenhan has been following Mr. Peng in the days since then. Whether it is visiting abroad, major domestic conferences, or even internal meetings of the Ministry of National Defense, he is inseparable from his figure. At the Lushan Conference in 1959, Zheng Wenhan stayed in Beijing to continue his work, and General Peng went to Lushan to attend the conference. However, not long after, Zheng Wenhan was notified to go to Lushan to draft a review letter for Peng Dehuai.
Zheng Wenhan was shocked. He felt very stressed. He knew that the content of this review was very difficult to grasp. He changed it again and again, and repeatedly corrected it. Finally, according to General Peng's intention, he showed that Peng Dehuai was willing to accept the criticism of him at the Lushan Conference. However, the situation did not improve, and General Peng was dismissed, so naturally Zheng Wenhan and the others no longer had to work for him. Before parting, Peng Dehuai came out to see Zheng Wenhan and the others off. He said sadly, thank you for your hard work over the years. Finally, President Peng said, don’t come again in the future.
Why do you say this? It is naturally because of Peng Dehuai's painstaking efforts. He cares for his staff, fearing that they will be implicated in unnecessary ways and affect their future. That year, Zheng Wenhan became the office director of Xiao Hua, deputy secretary-general of the Military Commission, and was later transferred to the Academy of Military Sciences. In 1988, he was awarded the rank of lieutenant general.
As Peng Dehuai's former secretary, Zheng Wenhan said in his later years that President Peng had a strong and honest personality and was not pretentious. He respected and supported great men very much, but due to social experience and cultural differences, the two leaders would have some fierce collisions in their work. But both great men and CEO Peng made unattainable contributions to the founding of New China, laying the foundation for China to achieve magnificent and great achievements later.
