was born in Hai Rui in Qiongshan in 1514 AD and was appointed as the teacher in Nanping County, Fujian Province at the age of 40. Since then, Hai Rui has faced difficulties due to repeated offenses, and almost every time he has been able to escape danger and was promoted. He eventually became the right censor of Nanjing, and died of illness at the age of 74. After his death, he was awarded the title of Prince Taibao and his posthumous title was "Zhongjie".
Hai Rui's lucky experience is quite worthy of appreciation, so let's talk about it.

1. Integrity has won the "first pot of gold"
It turns out that the great master of Qingtian, Hai Rui, who is known as the "King of the Sea", has not only been consistently tenacity and integrity, but also famous for his integrity and self-discipline, which has made him fully win a good reputation and gained the "first pot of gold" in his life.
Hai Rui, who was regarded as a "stupid child" when he was a child, was thankful for his hard work to train his mother, so he finally passed the imperial examination at the age of 35. After five years, Hai Rui, who failed to pass the Jinshi exam, waited for his first job and was appointed as the director of the county education bureau in Nanping County, Yanping Prefecture, Fujian Province.
After Hai Rui became the director, he first pursued honest politics resolutely. He took "no gifts" as a breakthrough, took the lead and set an example, and truly achieved "starting from me".
This was not easy in the middle and late Ming Dynasty, when corruption and bribery were popular. Hai Rui's move also offended many subordinates at first. Nanping County's faculty and staff originally had small salaries and their lives were not easy. They relied on receiving gifts to increase additional income to alleviate the difficulties. Now that I was disconnected, I was so angry that I hated Hai Rui and felt so angry.
However, over time, most teachers slowly calmed down when they saw that Hai Rui was also poor and had no innocence. They took the initiative to cooperate with him to teach carefully. The students also admire Hai Rui very much, believing that he had purified the atmosphere and was a reliable and upright official, and almost all of them worked hard to study.
After a few years, Nanping 's education has achieved excellent results and reached a higher level.
In this way, Hai Rui won the "first pot of gold" in his life. After four years of teaching, he was admired by Zhu Heng, a senior official from the court, who sent him to Henan to participate in politics. With his recommendation, he was immediately promoted to the magistrate of Chun'an County, Zhejiang Province.
So, when Hai Rui was 44 years old, he had a second job like the "Seventh-rank Sesame Official" who was rising.

2. Transparent and fair official assessment system
When he was appointed as the magistrate of Chun'an , Hai Rui, who stood out in the flock, was still decisive and decisive, and was consistently honest and dedicated to the public. It is strictly forbidden for subordinates not to embezzle and accept bribes, and cannot be corrupted by "sugar-coated shells".
For a moment, the Chun'an County Magistrate, Chief Clerk, Dianye and other teams couldn't stand it anymore. They were unwilling to accept Hai Rui's demands and neglect their affairs. They watched from the wall and saw what Hai Rui did. How can I know
? Hai Rui, who was originally from a difficult background, had very strong perseverance and was an all-rounder. He took the problem in his eyes and was not in a hurry. Instead, he did it himself, started by himself, thought about it himself, drafted the documents himself, tried the case himself, and took care of life himself... He did the magistrate's work very vigorously.
County magistrate and others saw that the magistrate set an example in this way and were consistent, and slowly changed. They cooperated vigorously and actively worked hard with him. Chun'an's internal environment was greatly improved in a subtle way.
However, the consequences of Hai Rui offending his superiors are not so easy to solve. Let’s not talk about his offending to the famous general of the Zhejiang Governor-General against Japanese devils. Because Hu Zongxian was noble and honest, he only severely criticized his son Mr. Hu.
is a thing that happened in Jiajing for thirty-nine years.In 1560 AD, the left deputy censor of the Inspectorate who ate, drank, was Yan Maoqing, under the banner of going to the local area to inspect the salt administration, and tricked him all the way to Chun'an to eat, drink and get great benefits. After Hai Rui knew the whole story, he only received the reception according to ordinary standards, provided only very simple meals, and wrote to Lord Yan, saying that Yun Chun'an was very poor and could not accommodate many cars and horses, so he could not arrange them decently...
Lord Yan, who was always domineering, saw that Hai Rui was so despised, how could he accept such contempt? Immediately, I turned away and threatened to "ride a donkey and read the songbook, walk and see." Fortunately, the official assessment system of the Ming Dynasty was quite transparent and fair, because Hai Rui had really done outstanding achievements in his post as the magistrate of Chun'an County. According to regulations, he could be promoted directly after three years. Lord Yan couldn't find a chance to retaliate for the moment, so he had to wait.
So as usual, Hai Rui also got the opportunity to be promoted to Jiaxing Prefecture Tongshu (equivalent mayor).

3. Cabinet Support
However, Hai Rui still suffered setbacks when he was promoted to the Jiaxing Prefecture Tribunal.
Because the officials of Jiaxing Prefecture were afraid that Hai Rui's thorn will affect their vested interests, they jointly wrote a letter to slander Hai Rui and reported that he had all kinds of unbearable responsibilities.
Yan Jingshi Yan, who was offended by Hai Rui, took the opportunity to retaliate and publicly impeached in the name of the Inspectorate.
Hai Rui was renamed the magistrate of Xingguo . A year later, he was transferred to the position of head of the Yunnan Department of the Ministry of Revenue. In the head of the Ministry of Revenue, Hai Rui, who was brave, could no longer tolerate sand in his eyes, so he wrote the official problems he saw as " Public Security ", bluntly saying, "Jiajing's family is clean, every family is clean." He strongly advocated that the court spend a lot of effort to rectify the social environment with a declining world.
Emperor Jiajing was very angry when he saw Hai Rui's three thousand-word memorial that criticized him and immediately wanted to kill him and showed it to the public. In critical moments, the cabinet that was watching the flowers in the fog reached out to help, and Xu Jie, who served as the prime minister, cleverly protected Hai Rui.
Xu Jie reported to Emperor Jiajing that Hai Rui was just a stubborn person and was used to being straightforward and couldn't hold back his words, but he was honest and reliable, and could do things with his heart and work with his heart, which was very useful.
Jiajing, for the sake of the cabinet chief, only spared Hai Rui's death penalty, and was unforgivable to live, and imprisoned him in the imperial prison for this life. Fortunately, Hai Rui was in prison for a few years and Emperor Jiajing passed away. With Xu Jie's secret support, Hai Rui successfully walked out of the prison cell. Soon after, he was restored to the position of the head of the Ministry of War. Within two years, he was promoted to the Chief of the Dali Temple. In the third year of Longqing , that is, in 1569 AD, 55-year-old Hai Rui was promoted to the position of the fourth-rank Right Chief Censor, and released the Governor Yingtian, so he was able to implement the " One-Whip Method " led by the reform led by Zhang Juzheng , which was deeply supported and loved by the people and became famous all over the world.
To sum up: The reason why Hai Rui, who repeatedly offended people, has been constantly improved is not only because of his honest character, but also because of the transparency and fairness of the Ming Dynasty's official assessment system, but also benefited from the Ming Dynasty's cabinet system.
