Wang Zhen was one of the important leaders of our party during the revolutionary period. He was upright, straightforward, and always adhered to the truth. He would not be affected by the external environment at all. Therefore, he was deeply trusted and valued by Chairman Mao. He can be said to be one of Chairman Mao’s favorite generals.

It is precisely because of Wang Zhen's special personality that during the special period, he not only dared to speak out for the unfair experience of President Peng, but also dared to stand up when Tan Zhenlin was criticized in 1967. Such a revolutionary is considered a revolutionary in the true sense.

Wang Zhen stood up for the unfairness of General Peng

Wang Zhen was born in 1908. Due to his poor background, Wang Zhen experienced many unfair things in his youth and hated the darkness of society even more. He was determined to revolutionize and change all this since he was a child. Therefore, in 1922, Wang Zhen, who was only 14 years old, joined the army in Changsha and joined the Communist Party of China in May 1927.

During the revolutionary period, Wang Zhen served in Red Second Front Army , the 120th Division of the Eighth Route Army and the First Field Army. He had a lot of interactions with General Peng and knew General Peng very well. Such a special experience laid the groundwork for what happened later.

After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Wang Zhen served as a member of the Northwest Bureau of the Central Committee, the first secretary of the Xinjiang Branch, and the first deputy commander of the Xinjiang Military Region. During his tenure, Wang Zhen led the anti-bandits, land reform and other work, and made great achievements. He was deeply praised and valued by Chairman Mao. It can be said that Wang Zhen is a leader who seeks truth from facts.

When the army was awarded the rank of general in 1955, Wang Zhen was awarded the rank of general. In fact, he could be rated as a general with his qualifications and contributions. However, considering various factors such as balancing the mountain, he was awarded the rank of general Wang Zhen. Of course, Wang Zhen himself actually didn't care whether he was a general or a general at all for this military rank. For a pure revolutionary like him, he cared about doing practical things, not his own title.

Because he worked too hard, Wang Zhen suffered a serious illness in 1955 and underwent a major operation. During this operation, one-third of Wang Zhen's stomach was removed, which had a great impact on his later work. This serious illness was not cured until 1956, and it was basically recovered.

Just just after his health recovered, Wang Zhen was assigned to work in the Ministry of Agriculture Reclamation and served as the Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture. The main reason why Chairman Mao arranged for Wang Zhen to serve as the Minister of Agriculture Reclamation is that Wang Zhen had rich experience in leading the agricultural production movement during the War of Resistance. Now he is allowed to serve as the Minister of Agriculture Reclamation, which is completely tailor-made.

That is, during his tenure as Minister of Agricultural Reclamation, Wang Zhen and Tan Zhenlin had some contact. At that time, Tan Zhenlin served as the Vice Premier of the State Council in charge of agriculture, and was Wang Zhen's immediate superior. Because Tan Zhenlin's personality and temper also belong to the kind of straightforward and honest type, during this period, Tan Zhenlin and Wang Zhen also had some unhappiness. We will talk about this in detail below.

In fact, shortly after Wang Zhen served as the Minister of Agricultural Reclamation, many problems arose across the country, especially in 1958 and 1959, many special events occurred. Many senior generals and important leaders of our party were treated unfairly in these special events, and even General Peng was among them.

1959, at the Lushan Conference, General Peng made a generous speech and said a lot of truthful words. However, in the historical background at that time, many people did not understand General Peng's words. Therefore, after saying these words, General Peng was attacked by others and treated unfairly.

When Mr. Peng was treated unfairly, many people began to put down the blame for their political future. It was in this special historical context that many people hoped that Wang Zhen could follow the trend and pointed out some shortcomings and problems about Mr. Peng. Unfortunately, Wang Zhen always adhered to the truth and said bluntly at the meeting: "General Peng commanded the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea, and he is a national hero."

You should know that under the historical context at that time, many people took advantage of themselves to protect themselves. It is rare to say a fair word. Wang Zhen not only did not criticize General Peng, but also praised General Peng's speeches were very dangerous at the time, but Wang Zhen did not care at all, always seeking truth from facts and adhering to the truth. This spirit is admirable.

Wang Zhen spoke for Tan Zhenlin

If you want to say that Wang Zhen spoke for General Peng, part of the reason is that the two have a lot of interactions. Wang Zhen is also familiar with General Peng, but when it comes to Wang Zhen speaking for Tan Zhenlin, it is actually a bit special, because the two had very little contact during the revolutionary period. At that time, Wang Zhen belonged to the Eighth Route Army and the First Field System, while Tan Zhenlin belonged to the New Fourth Army and the Third Field System. There was almost no intersection between the two.

Finally, after the founding of the People's Republic of China, the two had an intersection because of their work, but they had an unhappy relationship. As mentioned earlier, after Wang Zhen recovered in 1956, he was appointed as the Minister of Agriculture and Reclamation by Chairman Mao. At that time, Tan Zhenlin served as the Vice Premier of the State Council in charge of agriculture, so there was a working intersection between the two.

Tan Zhenlin learned that Wang Zhen had just recovered and had a serious illness, so when he arranged his work, he tried to arrange some simple and easy tasks for Wang Zhen. This move aroused Wang Zhen's strong dissatisfaction. After all, Wang Zhen was a person who wanted to do practical things, and doing some irrelevant things for himself, which obviously did not conform to Wang Zhen's style.

Unfortunately, Wang Zhen did not understand Tan Zhenlin's style of work, and Tan Zhenlin did not understand Wang Zhen's style of work, so there was a great misunderstanding in this matter. Even in 1964, Tan Zhenlin directly arranged a false position for Wang Zhen, so that he would become the minister on duty and no longer be responsible for any specific matters. This move made Wang Zhen very dissatisfied, and his misunderstanding of Tan Zhenlin increased a lot.

Because of this incident, some people with ulterior motives seized the conflict between Wang Zhen and Tan Zhenlin, and in 1967, when Tan Zhenlin was criticized, they wanted to instigate Wang Zhen to take advantage of the situation. They wanted to use these things to have a greater impact on Tan Zhenlin. But surprisingly, after Wang Zhen was forced to speak, he only said one sentence: "Tan Zhenlin is not a traitor."

After saying this, Wang Zhen stopped talking about the rest. When everyone kept forcing Wang Zhen to continue speaking, Wang Zhen slowly said, "The Chairman has said everything, the old comrades cannot be defeated." Hearing that Wang Zhen still insisted on his opinion, these people did not continue to ask him.

But it is regrettable that because of Wang Zhen’s speech at the meeting, those with ulterior motives were dissatisfied, so Wang Zhen was also treated unfairly soon. Fortunately, Chairman Mao has been protecting Wang Zhen, which has prevented him from being more cruelly criticized. Otherwise, the harm caused to Wang Zhen this time might have been greater.

After learning about Wang Zhen’s speech at the meeting, Tan Zhenlin also looked at Wang Zhen with admiration. After the incident, the relationship between Tan Zhenlin and Wang Zhen continued to improve, and later the two even became good friends. It has to be said that this is the character and mind that a true revolutionary should have.

Conclusion

Wang Zhen made great contributions during the revolutionary period and in the early days of the establishment of New China . He not only insisted on seeking truth from facts, but also dared to speak up for justice. No matter how the historical environment changes, he always sticks to a pure land in his heart. Such a revolutionary is the true revolutionary and the revolutionary who truly deserves our eternal praise!
