On the afternoon of September 27, 1955, the Huairen Hall in Zhongnanhai was full of seats and the first awarding ceremony for the New China was held.

For this award, everyone is familiar with the names of the top ten marshals and the top ten generals, and General Chen Geng is also among the top ten generals. Premier Zhou came to power with the order letter of the rank of general and awarded the rank of nine generals in Beijing one by one.

However, compared to the spring breeze of the other eight generals, Chen Geng was a little depressed. As we all know, Chen Geng is open-minded and cheerful and humorous. Whether working on a hidden front or on a frontal battlefield, he has never been overwhelmed by difficulties, and he is rarely sad.

At this time, Marshal He Long noticed Chen Geng's strangeness, and he came over to comfort him and said, " Chen Geng, do you miss your old comrades? So is me the same. How great would it be if he was alive! "

Then, who is the "old comrades" in He Long's mouth? Why did Chen Geng never forget the day he was awarded the title?

Lu Dongsheng Lu Dongsheng

Cowherd kid from Chen Geng's family, like brothers and sisters

This person Chen Geng never forgets is named Lu Dongsheng. He was the cowherd kid from Chen Geng's family when he was a child, and when he grew up, he was Chen Geng's deputy. Although the two are masters and servants, they are brothers and sisters. They have saved each other's lives on the battlefield and have a very deep relationship.

In 1908, Lu Dongsheng was born in a poor tenant family in Xiangtan, Hunan, and was a fellow townsman with Chairman Mao. The Lu family has six brothers and sisters, and they live in poverty. So when Lu Dongsheng was 7 years old, his grandmother moved her feet and walked 50 miles of mountain roads, and sent Lu Dongsheng to a landlord's house in Quanhu Village, Xiangxiang County, neighboring county as a cowherd.

This family is the famous Chen family in Quanhu Village. Chen Geng, the only son of the Chen family, is five years older than Lu Dongsheng. The two have a very good relationship. They often herd cattle together and play together, and are as brothers as brothers and close.

However, because of the different family backgrounds of the two, their development trajectories in their youth were also very different. In 1916, Chen Geng abandoned his pen and joined the army and joined the Hunan Army . Later, he was admitted to the Whampoa Military Academy , and took the lead in starting a magnificent revolutionary career.

Chen Geng’s former residence

When Chen Geng left home, Lu Dongsheng was only 8 years old. The departure of his brother made him feel a little lonely. In the spring of the next year, he stopped coming to the Chen family to herd cattle and stayed in a workshop in her hometown of , Xiangtan, and worked as an apprentice. Unlike the kindness and tolerance of the Chen family, this workshop often deducts wages and beats and scolds Lu Dongsheng. He endured it for three years and did not receive a penny of salary. He could no longer bear it and left the workshop and worked as a porter for five years.

Lu Dongsheng, who had been working for his livelihood for 8 years, gradually awakened and needed to change this life that was worse than that of a cattle and horse. So like Brother Chen Geng, he joined the Hunan Army and served in Tang Shengzhi's troops.

Destiny is such a coincidence. In April 1927, Lu Dongsheng was sent to the secret service camp, and the battalion commander was Chen Geng, the former "young master".

Seeing that Lu Dongsheng also joined the Hunan Army, Chen Geng was overjoyed and held his hand and asked, "Dongsheng, how do you feel?"

"Not very good. I have been a soldier for two years and have been bullied by officials all day long." Lu Dongsheng replied angrily.

"Come to be my side and be the deputy, and see who dares to make you angry!"

"Okay!"

Just like that, Lu Dongsheng stayed beside Chen Geng and became an adjutant, and participated in Nanchang Uprising together.

Chen Geng

When the uprising troops headed south, Chen Geng led a battalion to be in charge of the rear of the palace. Unfortunately, he was besieged by the enemy. Chen Geng was shot in his left leg and could not stand up. His life was hanging on the line.

"Battery Commander, I'll carry you away!" Lu Dongsheng did not say anything, and was about to carry Chen Geng and run away.

"No, you go quickly, otherwise none of us will survive!" Chen Geng disagreed.

How could Lu Dongsheng leave his brother behind? He insisted on retreating with Chen Geng on his back. But at this time, gunfire sounds were heard around him and the enemy had already rushed up. He had to carry Chen Geng on his back and roll down to the bottom of the ravine.

When the enemy cleaned the battlefield, the two of them did not dare to show off and could only lie in the pile of corpses to pretend to be dead. An enemy passed by and saw Chen Geng’s left leg was covered in blood and flesh. He thought he was dead, so he kicked him hard.

After the enemy left, Lu Dongsheng struggled to get up, and then carried Chen Geng back to retreat. From Huichang to Shantou and then to Hong Kong Island, he was accompanying Chen Geng and taking care of Chen Geng along the way.

After arriving at Hong Kong Island, the two were temporarily safe, but when Lu Dongsheng took Chen Geng to the hospital for injuries, the doctor refused to treat on the grounds of gunshot wounds. Fortunately, Chen Geng is optimistic by nature and looks indifferent, and said to Lu Dongsheng: "Look at a Western restaurant in front of him. It's not in vain to be able to have a Western meal."

Lu Dongsheng is an honest person. He took Chen Geng's words seriously and went to buy Western food. But not long after, he came back in shame. It turned out that when the waiter heard that he wanted to pack the Western food and take it away, and took it to the toilet for others to eat (Chen Geng hid in the toilet), he thought he was crazy when he was so angry that he scolded him and drove him away.

Chen Geng was angry and laughed when he heard this, and commented on him: "Dongsheng, you are too honest!"

Chen Geng's evaluation was a prophecy. Many years later, Lu Dongsheng really died because he was "too honest".

He Long

The number one general in western Hunan and Hubei, the brigade commander of the Eighth Route Army

In order to cure Chen Geng's leg injury, Lu Dongsheng took him to Shanghai by boat and received treatment at the orthopedic hospital of his cousin of Soong Ching Ling . Not long after, Chen Geng and Premier Zhou formed the Central Special Branch , stayed in Shanghai to lead the underground work of our party, and Lu Dongsheng also became one of them. However, given the severe situation between the enemy and us, it is time for the two brothers to part ways again.

On December 7, 1927, Premier Zhou came to Chen Geng's residence and assigned Lu Dongsheng a firm task: to escort He Long and Zhou Yiqun to western Hunan and Hubei, and open up a revolutionary base.

This is a rare opportunity. If it develops well, Lu Dongsheng will become a senior general of the Red Army . But he was a little unwilling to leave Brother Chen Geng.

But Chen Geng didn't think so. He advised Lu Dongsheng: " Dongsheng, from the perspective of love, I don't want you to leave. But I can't delay you. You follow Commander He and Yiqun. As long as we don't have a braid, we will meet again!"

Sure enough, after Lu Dongsheng came to western Hunan and Hubei, he quickly stood out in the struggle. He started as He Long's personal bodyguard. When the Red 26th Army met in Guidong in 1934, he was already the commander of the Fourth Division of the Red 2nd Army. He participated in a series of battles to establish and defend Hunan and Hubei, and Sichuan-Guizhou bases. He can be called He Long's number one favorite general.

When the three main forces of the Red Army met in Huining, Gansu, Lu Dongsheng finally met with Brother Chen Geng. He stepped forward to save Chen Geng and said excitedly, "Young Master, we meet again."

Lu Dongsheng, the right in the back row

Chen Geng did not change his humorous nature and replied, "Dongsheng, congratulations, you have become a cripple, ."

After the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japan, Shaanxi Red Army was adapted into the Eighth Route Army and rushed to the front line to fight. As a senior general of the of the Red Second Front Army, Lu Dongsheng was appointed as the brigade commander of the 358th Brigade of the 120th Division of the Eighth Route Army, and Chen Geng was the brigade commander of the 386th Brigade of the 129th Division. Although the two started differently, after many years, they stood on the same starting line.

But what is surprising is that after the commission, Lu Dongsheng refused to go to take office for a long time, but instead got angry with He Long. He said, "Mr. 3, you should hire another expert. I can't do this brigade commander !"

It turned out that after the Second Red Front Army arrived in northern Shaanxi, some people criticized He Long for "mountainism", saying that He Long led the Second Red Front Army into a personal team. Lu Dong was so angry that he argued with the other party for a few words, saying that He Long had been listening to Chairman Mao, otherwise why would he have come to northern Shaanxi? As a result, he was also implicated and was labeled as a "warlord" by others.

"How can warlords be brigade commanders of the Eighth Route Army?" Lu Dongsheng insisted on refusing to take office.

After learning about this, Chairman Mao deliberately talked to Lu Dongsheng, but he could not resist him, so he had to arrange him to study in Anti-Da . Not long after, at his strong request, the central government sent him to the Soviet Union and studied at Fulongzhi Military Academy with Liu Yalou.

was killed by Soviet soldiers. He Long and Chen Geng missed him. When they were in China, Lu Dongsheng commanded thousands of troops, but after all, he was a cowherd and could not read a single word. After coming to the Soviet Union, his knowledge has made great progress. He not only learned Russian, but also gained a deep understanding of military, politics and economy. After he finished his studies, he wanted to return to China to participate in the war, but just as the outbreak of , the Soviet-German War, , was unable to return to China, so he had to go to the Far East under the arrangement of the Soviet Union and serve as a major instructor of the 88th Brigade of the Soviet Army. Although this unit is the Soviet army number, its main body is Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army . Lu Dongsheng always feels a little comfort in his heart to be able to get along with Chinese soldiers.

194589 In September, Lu Dongsheng returned to the Northeast with the Soviet army. He first came to Chen Yun to work, and was later appointed as the commander of the Songjiang Military Region, with a bright future. Just when he was about to set sail and make achievements in the liberation of China, an accident happened.

On the evening of November 16, 1945, Chen Yun rushed from Changchun to Harbin to establish the North Manchurian Branch. As soon as Chen Yun took office, he held a meeting decisively. But when the meeting was about to end, someone remembered that Chen Yun and his party were in a hurry and their luggage was still placed in the Binjiang Working Committee office several hundred meters away from the venue. So, Chen Yun's secretary Liu Da proposed to take the guards over to pick up the luggage.

At that time, Harbin was taken over by the Soviet army. The Soviet army had a relaxed discipline and often caused trouble. Even Liu Yalou was robbed by them and suffered a great loss. Lu Dongsheng thought he was familiar with Harbin and knew Russian, so he took the initiative to propose: "This is dark, I'll go."

As a result, Liu Da had to let Lu Dongsheng go and pick it up, and a guard of Chen Yun also went there. The luggage was successfully taken, but on the way back, the two met two drunk Soviet soldiers who were robbing the passing people.

Lu Dongsheng was anxious at first sight and shouted loudly in Russian: " Which part are you from? Why do you rob the common people? !"

Su soldiers were already arrogant, but after hearing Lu Dongsheng report his identity, the two stopped and watched Lu Dongsheng leave as well as the guards. However, after a few steps, the Soviet soldier who was afraid of being accused fired from behind. Lu Dongsheng was shot in the temple and died on the spot. The guard rolled down the hillside to escape and became a surviving witness.

In this way, the country and the people lost a firm communist fighter, Chen Geng lost a good brother, and He Long also lost his beloved general.

Chen Geng and He Long

The bad news of Lu Dongsheng's accidental sacrifice reached Taihang Mountain . Chen Geng sighed to the sky, burst into tears, his face full of regret. Lu Dongsheng dared to face the criminals, demonstrating his justice and straightforwardness, but he may be able to avoid this disaster even if he is not so straightforward and not so "honest".

1955 awarded the title. If Lu Dongsheng was still alive, he should be at least an admiral. Chen Geng once said to President He: " If Dongsheng is still alive, he will at least be a general !"

Because of this, when Chen Geng was awarded the rank of general, he was depressed when he remembered his good brothers and old comrades.

As Lu Dongsheng's former superior, He Long also sighed: "Chen Geng, do you miss your old comrades? So is me the same. How great would it be if he lived!"
