In October 1939, a new person came to the Security Office of the Yan'an Border Region Government. This person had only one arm and was about 30 years old.

His name is Chen Bo, also known as Blue.

No one knows his personal history and the circumstances of his coming to Yan'an except Kang Sheng and Li Kenong from the Central Ministry of Social Affairs.

This slender but burly one-armed man exudes a heroic aura and is also known as Yan'an's famous detective.

Because he uncovered the 1943 plot by the military commander to pretend to be a sacrificed general of our party and prepare to assassinate Chairman Mao.

How did Chen Bo do it? Military Command How did we dispatch our party’s generals who had already died?

Yan'an's Famous Detective

Chen Bo, whose original name was Lu Maohuan, was born in 1909 in a fisherman's family in Hainan Island. In May 1926, he joined the Communist Party of China under the introduction of Li Jingmin.

In 1927, after the "April 12" counter-revolutionary coup, all party members in Chen Bo's factory were arrested and later dismissed.

Chen Bo joined the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army in his hometown. After the failed attack on Boao, the revolutionary forces were bloody suppressed by the enemy.

His elder sister and younger sister were arrested by the enemy, and their life and death were unknown. He had no choice but to stay away from his hometown and go into exile abroad.

At that time, his uncle opened a Chinese restaurant in Indonesia Sumatra , and the business was pretty good.

After hearing about his nephew's situation, he took Chen Bo in and provided him with education.

Although Chen Bo was expelled abroad by the reactionaries, his revolutionary heart did not change. He secretly contacted several party members who had escaped from Hainan and established an underground organization.

They carry out activities centered on the docks of Palembang .

In 1928, they got in touch with the Communist Party of Singapore , established the Palembang Special Branch, and prepared to establish the Palembang Federation of Trade Unions.

In order to facilitate the revolution, Chen Bo changed his name to "Bulu", which is the pronunciation of "screw" in Malaysian.

In 1931, Chen Bo received an order to assassinate Li Jinbiao, secretary of the Singapore District Committee. As the secretary of the District Committee of Singapore, he betrayed the revolution and led the British authorities to arrest hundreds of underground party comrades.

In order to prevent him from continuing to sabotage the activities of the Communist Party and to prevent him from betraying more revolutionary comrades, Chen Bo decided to assassinate him.

After Li Jinbiao betrayed the revolution, he always traveled with the British authorities, and the underground party failed to assassinate him several times.

Chen Bo decided to kill two people with a bomb.

Unfortunately, he had just delivered the bomb upstairs to the cafe when someone knocked on the door and Chen Bo accidentally detonated the bomb.

The huge explosion also attracted the attention of the local police. He was rushed to the hospital lying in a pool of blood. Because the injury was too serious, the doctor cut off his left arm.

After his injuries stabilized, he was sent to prison. The local police asked him who ordered him to go to the cafe to carry out the explosion.

Chen Bo saw that the police had no conclusive evidence to prove his crime, so he insisted that it was a bomb thrown in from outside. He was an innocent victim and hoped that they could thoroughly investigate the real culprit.

The police had no choice but to release him in court due to insufficient evidence, but after all, he was the biggest suspect and was deported.

In December 1936, he came to the North from Nanyang, adapted to life in Yan'an in a short period of time, and got into work.

Take advantage of the situation

During the Spring Festival of 1939, Chen Bo got news: the Kuomintang Central Command sent agents to Yan'an.

Because this person's cover identity is that of a reporter, he cannot be arrested in the conventional way of arresting a spy.

Chen Bo ordered that all checkpoints must be strictly inspected to verify the identity information of the agents.

Under his leadership, the Fu County checkpoint quickly sent a piece of information about the spies.

This person is a reporter from the "Central Daily News" who came from Luochuan . His mission on this trip is to inspect the counties in the border area and convey to the county party headquarters the anti-communist strategies determined by the fifth plenary session of the Fifth Central Committee of the Kuomintang. In addition, Place Central Unification agents in Yan'an.

Once Hu Zongnan attacks the border area, they will cooperate with Hu Zongnan inside and outside to catch the Communist Party off guard.

At this point in the interrogation, it can be said that the purpose of the secret agent has been clarified, and the case has come to an end.

But Chen Bo was unwilling to let go of an opportunity to uproot the Yan'an spies.

According to the party's anti-corruption policy at that time, spies and spies like them should be severely punished. If there were no major sabotage actions, they would be released after being educated and expelled from Yan'an.

Some influential people will patiently persuade them and make them useful to me.

This agent is about 30 years old, graduated from Shanghai Jiao Tong University .

During the interrogation, he faced the situation calmly, responded calmly, and looked calm, which shows that he has excellent psychological quality.

Chen Bo knew that such a person could not impress him with his thoughts and words, so he came up with a great plan.

On the second night, a mysterious guest came to Yan'an. He behaved elegantly, wore black leather shoes, gold-rimmed glasses, and showed an elegant temperament in his every move.

This outfit does not match Yan'an.

When Secretary Liu of the County Party Headquarters saw this person, he hurriedly invited him into his office and observed him carefully. He only believed him after seeing that he had a very different temperament from the Communist Party.

The visitor took out the press card of the Kuomintang's "Central Daily News" and asked for the secret contact code of the Central Unification Committee.

Secretary Liu said with joy: "Xi'an sent a telegram very early, we have been waiting for you for a long time!"

The mysterious guest said calmly: "The Communist Party's investigation is very strict, which delayed a little time. However, They didn't dare to do anything to me as a reporter, they just I arranged to stay at the Border District Government, and people were keeping an eye on me all day long.

I couldn't get away, and I didn't have a chance to visit you until tonight. I don't have much time, and I have to go back quickly, otherwise they will become suspicious. "

Secretary Liu said: "The Communist Party calls for rebellion every day. The opposition to retreat and surrender has put us under great pressure and made our activities very inconvenient, but as long as we can stay in Yan'an, we can play a role."

The mysterious guest asked him: "Then you have been in Yan'an for so long, have you established any intelligence. Stronghold? "

" Although the Communist Party is targeting It’s very tight, but we still established a network in some places and were able to get some information.”

The mysterious guest took a pen to record all the information Secretary Liu said in detail, then read their information one by one, and asked Secretary Liu to mark it. Be clear about the specific personnel and intelligence sources of each secret intelligence point.

Secretary Liu was convinced of his identity and did as Chen Bo said.

He would never have thought that this mysterious man was Chen Bo. After

successfully obtained information in Fushi County, he used the same method to investigate the local Kuomintang situation in Yanchuan, Qingjian and other counties.

After carefully sorting out the materials collected during this period, he issued an order to the security department, asking the Public Security Bureau to follow the map and capture the spies hiding in Yan'an.

This operation arrested a total of more than 40 Kuomintang agents, which greatly weakened their power in the Yan'an Border Region and made the Kuomintang authorities politically passive and embarrassed.

After learning about this, Chiang Kai-shek reprimanded them and asked them to deploy new spies to Yan'an as soon as possible.

Now that we have learned from the past, how easy is it to install spies?

Seeing Through the Conspiracy

Chen Bo has been engaged in intelligence work in Yan'an. He has destroyed several spy cases one after another, including seeing through the plot of military unification agents to assassinate Chairman Mao.

The time goes back to early June 1943.

The 7th Police Brigade supplementary regiment of the Eighth Route Army in Yan'an is responsible for the security of Yan'an.

In the early morning, their guard post discovered that someone was preparing to cross the mountain pass secretly, and the Seventh Brigade immediately mobilized troops to encircle and annihilate them.

They eliminated a total of seven armed spies, but left no one alive, so there was no way to know the purpose of their trip.

Commander Xiao Jinguang severely criticized the soldiers of the supplementary regiment and told them to stay alive next time.

Coincidentally, in the area of Fu County, armed agents sneaked past the sentry gate once again. The Eighth Route Army soldiers at the

post fired at them. Two people were killed, and a captured wounded man also died of his injuries.

It was too strange that he failed to survive both times.

The two incidents of armed agents sneaking past the sentry post aroused Chen Bo's vigilance. He felt that the enemy must be planning an unknown conspiracy.

Chen Bo reported his speculation to Qian Yimin, Minister of Security Department of the Central Military Commission.

The Security Department of the Central Military Commission also felt that this matter was not trivial. They held a joint meeting and asked the Security Department, the left-behind Corps, the Public Security Bureau and other units to strengthen prevention, especially to protect the central leaders.

The police force searched for agents in the border area.

Chen Bo believes that no matter what conspiracy the enemy is plotting, their target must be the central leaders, especially Chairman Mao.

He asked the relevant personnel of the Security Department to copy the leader's itinerary every day.

On this day, Chen Bo carefully looked through the leader's schedule as usual. Suddenly he saw that one of Chairman Mao's arrangements was questionable: an interview with Tian Shouyao of the New Fourth Army on the morning of June 22.

He silently wrote down Tian Shouyao's name. A person who had been missing for a while would inevitably appear again without raising suspicion.

He came to the Central Military Commission and found Qian Yimin to ask for information about Tian Shouyao.

data shows that Tian Shouyao left Central China in March and came all the way to the Yan'an Border Region.

He claimed that he sent a telegram to the central government when passing through the northwest, but the letter of introduction he held was lost during the war.

A letter of introduction is equivalent to a person's ID card and is an important item that can prove identity. As a senior general of the New Fourth Army, how could Tian Shouyao be so careless?

He made a suggestion to Qian Yimin: "Can you check with the military station in northwestern Shanxi that he passed to see if Brigadier Tian passed by?"

Qian Yimin immediately sent someone to do it, and soon Chen Bo received their reply: There is no news that Tian Shouyao passed by here.

Chen Bo put down the telegram, wondering what he was thinking.

Suddenly he strode outside, found Qian Yimin and said, "I think Tian Shouyao's identity should be verified immediately. After the identity is confirmed, he will decide whether to allow Chairman Mao to meet him."

"You think this person's identity is doubtful, but you can What evidence is there? "

" is like this, Tian Shou Yao's information records that he left Central China in March. Although three months is not a long time, a lot of things can happen.

And combined with the recent Wu Banner and the spies' nighttime border crossings in Fu County, it is enough. It shows that the Kuomintang agents are trying to sneak into Yan'an, and their purpose is probably to assassinate our party. Leader.

Only the common people and soldiers are the easiest to disguise in Yan'an. However, if you don't understand the situation in Yan'an, it is easy to be exposed, but it is difficult to find out if you are pretending to be a soldier.

The most questionable point is that he is in the material. It is filled in that it passes through the Eighth Route Army Liaison Station in northwest Shanxi, but They replied that there was no such person.

If there was no doubt about his identity, why would he lie about the itinerary? So I suggest that Tian Shouyao be screened immediately. "

" OK, I will leave this matter to you. You must do it. "Guarantee Chairman Mao's safety." Qian Yimin handed over this important task to Chen Bo.

After receiving the mission, he immediately stepped up his observation of Tian Shouyao, and finally found a pistol and determined that he was a senior spy sent by the military commander to assassinate Chairman Mao.

Since the Tian Shouyao in front of him is fake, then where is the real Tian Shouyao?

Heroes who died

On February 17, 1943, the Japanese invaders dispatched troops from Central China and North China to dispatch a large number of Japanese and puppet troops to launch a large-scale raid on our anti-Japanese base areas.

Before the enemy launched a major sweep, in order to unify their thinking and welcome the new situation of the anti-Japanese war counterattack in Yan'an, the central government mobilized 51 cadres including Chief of Staff Peng Xiong and Brigade Commander Tian Shouyao to study in Yan'an.

When Tian Shouyao and the others overcame many difficulties and reached the south bank of the Salt River, the Japanese army had already established heavy defenses on the other side of the river.

All the boats crossing the river were dragged into the north bank by the Japanese army. Due to the change in situation, Tian Shouyao had to change his route.

They are going to pass through Lianyungang , and then rush to Yan'an after passing through the Shandong Liberated Area.

On March 16, the team crossed the blockade and arrived at the small fishing village Liuhezhuang, and successfully found a wooden sailing boat .

The team carried weapons and disguised themselves as civilians and set off from the mouth of the Yanhe River towards the Yellow Sea.

Many cadres grew up in the north and are not used to taking boats.

As soon as they got on the boat, they suffered from severe seasickness, and Tian Shouyao was no exception.

He was vomiting while paying attention to the situation at sea.

At around 7 o'clock in the morning, old boatman Wang found that Japanese sentries and strongholds could be vaguely seen on the sea.

"No, we may be exposed to the enemy's sight, everyone, be careful."

After a while, a Japanese patrol boat with a Japanese flag sped towards the wooden boat.

"If there is a situation, everyone is ready to fight!" Tian Shouyao instantly climbed up from the ship and looked at the approaching patrol ship with vigilance.

The motorboat kept approaching, and there were more than a dozen heavily armed Japanese standing on it. They shouted loudly in Japanese to ask Tian Shouyao and others to stop for inspection.

Old Man Wang originally planned to use the name of a merchant ship to deal with the enemy, but he did not expect the Japanese to insist on inspection.

After the two boats approached, two Japanese jumped onto Tian Shouyao's boat with bayonets in hand. A cadre rushed forward and pushed him into the sea while he was not prepared.

took out a grenade from his pocket and threw it at them, blowing them to pieces and leaving them bloody.

Tian Shouyao ordered, "Comrades, hit me!" In an instant, grenades and shell guns were aimed at the enemy patrol ship and fired violently.

The unprepared Japanese quickly turned the direction of the patrol ship and then pointed their crooked machine guns at the Eighth Route Army cadres.

When our military cadres came to Yan'an for a meeting this time, they brought short guns. Compared with the enemy's heavy weapons, they have limited range and limited lethality.

The enemy is strong and we are weak, and the situation is not optimistic for them. In just a few minutes, our army lost several cadres, and the rest were forced to defend the cabin.

The Japanese army did not know the identities of Tian Shouyao and others, but followed the usual practice of urging cadres to lay down their weapons and surrender.

What awaited the Japanese soldiers was a unanimous roar: "Impossible!"

Enraged, they once again aimed their guns at New Fourth Army cadres. Tian Shouyao's wife Chen Luolian was shot and seriously injured.

Peng Xiong was shot in the head immediately and died on the spot.

The battle lasted until 3 o'clock in the afternoon. After the team members repelled several enemy attacks, the ammunition was exhausted and the wooden boat was also devastated.

Originally, everyone was ready to die with the enemy, but the Japanese were frightened by the desperate resistance of the New Fourth Army cadres and turned around and ran away.

Seeing the enemy patrol ship gradually moving away, Tian Shouyao and the others just breathed a sigh of relief, and the wooden boat continued to sail towards Yan'an.

But half an hour later, three Japanese motorboats appeared behind them and fired fiercely at them.

Tian Shouyao knew the design range of the short gun and asked everyone to wait for the motorboat to approach before shooting. However, the Japanese army only used machine gun to shoot at the wooden boat without getting closer.

Then the wooden boat docked to the shore, preparing to attack the enemy. However, before they could reach the shore, the enemy caught up with three more patrol ships and completely surrounded them.

Tian Shouyao supported his wife and jumped into the water first. The other comrades also supported their injured comrades and followed closely behind Tian Shouyao and his wife.

Exhausted and out of ammunition and food, they persisted in fighting the enemy for two days. Tian Shouyao died heroically at the age of 28.

The surviving comrades continued to advance towards Yan'an under the leadership of Zhang Chiming. Luo Ronghuan was very sad when he learned the news of Tian Shouyao's sacrifice.

The two patriotic generals Peng Xiong and Tian Shouyao were still so young, but they died at sea early, with no bones left.

Luo Ronghuan held a public memorial ceremony and memorial service for the 16 cadres who died.

Of course, something even more unexpected for them was yet to come.

Although the Japanese did not know the identities of the New Fourth Army generals who died, after the Wang Puppet Secret Service learned the news, they ordered to find out the list of the sacrificed personnel.

The Yan'an side is still unclear about what happened in Lianyungang, but the Wang Puppet Secret Service quickly figured out their identities.

The reason why they went to great lengths to figure out the identity of the deceased was naturally because they wanted to impersonate them and assassinate him before Yan'an knew the news.

Dai Li personally planned and arranged and sent a senior spy Li Daitao to pretend to be Tian Shouyao to attend the meeting in Yan'an.

As a senior general and patriotic general of the New Fourth Army, he naturally had to accept Chairman Mao's summons.

Li Daitao, who pretended to be Tian Shouyao, stayed at the guest house of the Central Military Commission for five days. He was so blatantly active in Yan'an that no one suspected his identity.

Li Daitao planned to kill Chairman Mao with a prepared silent pistol when Chairman Mao met him.

But he failed to wait for Chairman Mao, and waited for Chen Bo first.

Fortunately, he was very careful and verified Tian Shouyao's identity, otherwise we don't know what would have happened.
