Old Revolutionary Storytelling No. 27

Zhao Rongyin

Litang Village, Zaolin Town, although it is located on the northeast edge of Wugang City, it is not as remote as I thought, and it is not as narrow as I thought. There are neat rows of houses and flat concrete roads. The courtyard walls in front of every house are full of flowers and plants. At this time, crape myrtle and hibiscus are in full bloom, and homes such as ageratum, pepper and perilla are interspersed in the middle. Condiments, farmhouse means full of meaning.

Village Party Branch Secretary Huang Hongjie led us through these courtyards to visit the old man Zhao Rongyin, a veteran of the People's Liberation Army. Knowing that we were coming, the old man sat in the shade of the tree at the entrance of the courtyard and waited early. The old man has a ruddy complexion and peaceful eyes, but he walks slowly because of waist problems. The staggering footsteps make people wonder that the old man was a communication soldier on the battlefield to resist US aggression and aid Korea.

File record: Zhao Rongyin (Yin), born in December 1935, enlisted in September 1951, gloriously joined the 3rd Battalion and 9th Company of the 97th Regiment of the 33rd Division, and then participated in the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea . Joined the party in December 1956 and won the honorary title of second-class shooter in military training in 1956. Retired from the army in May 1957. His six-year military career has made him unforgettable every day and is his lifetime spiritual wealth.

Zhao Rongyin lost his mother when he was three years old and was dependent on his father. In the era of turmoil, the father and son often went out to beg for food. After the founding of New China, I had just lived a stable life, but I heard that there was the Korean War . "Someone wants to take away our happy life, we will never allow it." Zhao Rongyin and the young people in the same village vowed to go to the battlefield to defend their home and the country, and the suffering father naturally disagrees. In August 1951, Zhao Rongyin and his partner secretly went to Wuyang County to sign up for the army. Those who went with him did not meet the conditions, so he was selected.

After joining the army, the army received intense training from Zhengzhou. In September of that year, when the weather was still hot, the troops started to distribute cotton uniforms, military coats and cotton shoes. Everyone knows that this is about to go to the Korean battlefield, and everyone is gearing up and excited. After a few days, they boarded a train from Zhengzhou. A few days later, they arrived near North Korea's "38th Line", replenished with the garrison troops, rested for a while, and walked to Wonsan Port on the east coast of North Korea to garrison and perform defensive tasks.

At this time, the Korean battlefield situation has turned into the defensive phase. From August to October 1951, the summer and autumn defensive campaigns were launched near the "38th parallel", relying on field fortifications to fight against the United States-led " United Nations Army_" " Strangulation War" implemented by "span8span". Since December, in order to persist in fighting for a long time and consolidate the existing positions, our volunteers have built a strong defense system with tunnel fortifications as the backbone and combined with field fortifications.

Zhao Rongyin and his comrades who were added to the garrison troops quickly participated in the construction of the fortifications and actively participated in the tunneling operation. Tunnels are generally built in the middle of the mountain. They are mostly hard soil and stones. They are very strong and difficult to excavate. Tunnels with a depth of more than one person are digged with shovel or hammered, requiring great effort. When he first started on the battlefield, Zhao Rongyin had endless energy. He was not afraid of hardship or tiredness. He pried rocks and smashed the soil. The method was appropriate and accurate and smooth. The company commander found him smart and flexible, so he chose him as a field correspondent.

At that time, the enemy was using aircraft bombing tactics, and there was gunfire rumbling all day long. It is very dangerous to complete the task of sending letters under artillery fire. The positions are basically sending messages. Without papers, the correspondent must reach the goal. land. Zhao Rongyin slapped his chest: "Please rest assured, company commander, make sure to complete the mission!"

Once, Zhao Rongyin needed to cross the enemy's blockade to deliver a letter. He put on a straw hat ring and arched his body along the traffic ditch. Running, a cannonball fell on the edge of the traffic ditch, and the blasted soil fell like an overturning wave, burying him. The lower body was firmly pressed by the soil, his forehead hit the stone, and the blood flowed to his cheek instantly, he moved his body with difficulty and crawled out of the pile of dirt.Fortunately, I carried a first aid kit with my trembling hands. I took out the cotton wool with my trembling hands to hold the wound, wrapped it with a bandage, and quickly completed the bandage (now there is still a deep scar on the forehead), and continued to crawl forward, taking advantage of the gap between the gunfire and rushing through the blockade. , Arrive at the destination.

The garrison of the volunteers is halfway up the mountain, and the opposite mountain is full of enemy bunkers. In order to effectively eliminate the enemy, they use close-range strike tactics, shooting or throwing grenades only when the enemy is found within 30 meters. Zhao Rongyin is very smart, witty and brave, always hits every shot, and is good at summarizing, and has learned many flexible tactics. For example, you can distinguish the direction of a shell exploding by ear. If the shell sound is loud, it means that the range is far, and the shell coming from the opposite side will fall behind you. If the shell sound is dull, it means that the range is close and it will fall right near you. You must be in time. Dodge. Based on this judgment, when he delivered the letter, he avoided being injured many times. He also learned Korean with the local people, and even listened to the shouts of American soldiers, and learned many English words. This provided him with a lot of convenience for the safe delivery of letters (the old man also said a few short sentences in Korean and English when he spoke here).

In March 1953, Zhao Rongyin moved with the troops to the east front of the 38th line, where he performed a defensive mission for three months. In July, he moved to the virgin forest zone in the Yangde area in central North Korea to be stationed. When the news of the armistice came that night, at about 9 o'clock, the surroundings suddenly fell silent, and there was no sound of artillery ever since. Subsequently, the troops transferred to combat readiness training and participated in local production and construction. In September 1954, the 33rd Division of the Chinese People’s Volunteers was ordered to withdraw its troops and return to China. When they got off the train at Dandong Station on the Yalu River, the soldiers were lifted up by the people who came to greet them and threw them into the air. The warm welcome of the people of the motherland was about to return to their hometown. The warmth and excitement of Zhao Rongyin's eyes filled with tears.

After Zhao Rongyin returned from the Korean battlefield, he was stationed with troops in Laiyang, Yantai, and Weihai in Shandong. At Laiyang, he was a guard for the regimental commander. He was fascinated by his ears and made rapid progress. In July 1956, he joined the Communist Party of China honorably and served as the platoon leader of the second company; while in Yantai, he participated in a live ammunition exercise. Facing the fast-moving live target, hit the target accurately every time,Was rated as a special shooter, excellent platoon leader.

In November 1956, the fourth major disarmament of the People's Republic of China, the total number of troops was reduced by one third. In June 1957, Zhao Rongyin was demobilized and returned to the Wugong District of Wuyang County to work as a farmer. In 1958, when he made a big steel smelting, he was in charge of refueling cars in the Wugong District Supply Section, and he was able to receive a salary of 18 yuan a month. Later, for the convenience of taking care of his family, he returned to Litang Village and became a militia battalion commander, leading the masses to do a good job in agricultural production and training the militia at the same time. He worked day and night and had high prestige.

After listening to the old man Zhao Rongyin's account, we asked him a question that many interviewers must ask: "Are you afraid on the battlefield?"

The old man touched the scar on his forehead and said with a smile: " At that time, I didn’t know I was afraid, so I was thinking about rushing forward. Once on the battlefield, who still wants to come back!"

When we said we wanted to see the old man’s medals and old photos, he said regretfully: " The old ones were washed away when flooded, only new ones." The flooding mentioned by the old man refers to the disaster in August 1975. Many memorable things were submerged in the rolling floods.

Speaking of the flood, the old man said: "I am blessed. After the water is over, I will be the captain of the production team. The harvest was great that year, and the grain output doubled. The whole village was too happy. He caught up with the village and gave it to the village. Every family plans homesteads and asks me to be responsible for the plans. They are all in order.” Huang Hongjie, the secretary of the village party branch, said, “Now the basic framework of my village is still according to the plan at that time, and there is no need to change. "It's no wonder that we see that the old and new houses in the village are neat and tidy, and the roads are smooth. It turns out that there are old people's wisdom and credit.

Secretary Huang said: “When he was young, he was able to do himself, and he did not bother others when he was old. He never asked the village to ask for it. The house collapsed that year and he did it himself. Last year, the village was made to beautify the environment. Painting the walls, he also buys food and water to give to the villagers."

The old man waved his hand: "I have no credit. There is nothing to ask for. The hard days of the past have passed. Now that the country is prosperous and the people are blessed, what else can I ask for? "

The old man has three sons and four daughters. Each child has his own happy little family. Together, they take care of the old father who came from the rain of bullets. The fatigue of his life has caused the old man to have serious waist problems. He could not walk far, he could only wander around nearby. He watched the rapid changes in the village, the fourth generation (great-granddaughter) who grew up healthily in his family, and looked at the “CPC Central Committee” issued on his chest. The 50th Anniversary of Glory in the Party" commemorative medal, the "70th Anniversary of the Chinese People’s Volunteers Going Abroad to Fight the United States and Aid Korea" issued by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the State Council, and the Central Military Commission, overflowed with a satisfying smile.

The old man is one of countless unknown veterans. Having experienced the test of life and death, he is the witness of history and the creator of history.

Nowadays, the veterans have gone away from the flames and smoke, retired from fame and glory, and are scattered in every corner of society. Living in a well-off society. We should care for them, cherish them, never forget history, draw strength from history, let their spirit shine in ordinary daily life, and illuminate the way forward.
