An artistic model of the integration of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism in the Song Dynasty: the Huayan Cave in Anyue Rock

Anyue is mainly famous for its cliff carvings. In my country's grotto art, it enjoys an important position of inheriting the Dunhuang, Yungang, and Longmen grottoes, and Xiaqi Dazu rock carvings, and is known as "another great treasure house of ancient Chinese rock carvings". Anyue stone carvings flourished in the Tang, Five Dynasties and Northern Song Dynasty, and gradually declined in the Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, and the least in the Republic of China. The earliest surviving statues are recorded in the 11th year of Kaiyuan in Tang Dynasty (723), and the most are Kaiyuan (713---741), Tianbao (742-756), Xiantong (860-874), and Tianfu (901- 904) and Tiancheng (926-930), Tianfu (936-942), Guangzheng (938-960) of the Five Dynasties, Duan Gong (988-989) of the Northern Song Dynasty, Shao Sheng (1094-1098), Chongning (1102- 1106), Grand View (1107-1110), etc.

There are more than 200 cliff statues and more than 100,000 statues in the county, including 9 national cultural relics protection units. They are the Eight Temples Reclining Buddha Courtyard and the Shiyang Bridge Lu Cave, Dingxin Huayan Cave, Mingshan Temple, Huangjue Xuanmiao View, Yuanjue Cave, Qianfo Village, Peacock Cave, stone imitation wood ancient building-Mumen Temple. 10 provincial cultural relics protection units. In particular, the left-hand reclining Buddha of the Tang Dynasty, which is well-known at home and abroad, and the Zizhu Guanyin of the Northern Song Dynasty, known as the "Oriental Beauty God", have the highest evaluations and have attracted the most attention of the world.

Mr. Ding Mingyi, Institute of Archaeology, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, praised the Anyue Rock Carvings as having 10 of the best in the country:

(1) The Reclining Buddha of Anyue is the extant Tang Dynasty in the country The most perfect statue of the Moya Reclining Buddha;

(2) Anyue Sutra "All Sutra Preface", etc., which are the earliest versions passed down by Xuanzang's translation team; (3) Stone sculptures from the Five Dynasties period are in China Most;

(4) The "Ksitigarbha" in the Five Dynasties of Yuanjue Cave is the earliest in southern China;

(5) The "Hell Change" niche in the Five Dynasties of Yuanjue Cave is the earliest in China;

(6) The "Ten Lian" practice diagrams of the Northern Song Dynasty Liu in the Vairocana Dojo is the earliest and rare in the country;

(10) The imitation wood structure of Mumen Temple in Ming Dynasty The statues and carvings of the Zen master's stone pagoda are rare in China.

Anyue stone carvings are mainly Buddhist statues, and there are also a lot of Taoist statues, and they all flourished in the Tang Dynasty. It is worth noting that the statues of Buddhism and Taoism merge with each other. There are Taoist statues in Buddhist temples and Buddhist statues in Taoist temples, and there are many Buddhist and Taoist niches.

The most typical one is that there are many statues of the combined niches of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism, and the scenes are more magnificent. It has gone through the Tang, Five Dynasties, Song, Ming and Qing Dynasties. This is a study of the history of the integration of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism. Cultural phenomena provide extremely valuable physical information.

In addition, there are many "jingbian" statues in Anyue stone carvings, including hell change, Guanyin sutra change, western pure land change, and Nirvana change (the so-called sutra change, "jing" is Buddhist scripture, and change is "disguised form". "Realization" means visualization, so sutra changes are the visualization of Buddhist scriptures).

摩利支天

The comic-style "The Fifty-Three Seeking Law of the Good Fortune Boy" is very distinctive. Many scenes of seeking the law, such as "cutting the clouds and replenishing the clothes", "Miaoxiang Country", "Seven Treasures of the City", etc. jumped across the wall. On both sides of the Huayan Cave, the mountain lion, Zhunti Buddha Mother, and Mori Zhitian are carved with vicious faces. They are in sharp contrast with the compassionate Buddha, Bodhisattva, and the ever-changing fifty-three ginseng.
