Houji, surnamed Ji, was born in Jishan, and was revered as King Ji (also God of Ji), God of Agriculture, and Farming God, God of Valley.
During Yao and Shun, Hou Ji was the god of Sinong. He was the first to establish a grain reserve and quǎn (quǎn) mu method, release grain to relieve hunger, and give seeds to the people. He is considered to be one of the three most relied upon by Yu.
"Historical Records · Zhou Benji" contains: Tai's daughter Jiang Lai was born and abandoned after stepping on the footprints of giants. Hou Ji was the eldest son of Emperor Huangdi's great-great-great-grandson and diyu's concubine. Hou Ji's mother was named Jiang Chang, the imperial concubine Yuan.
Houji was abandoned by his parents when he was young. "The Book of Songs·Daya·Shengmin" describes that Hou Ji survived in the footsteps of God, and was later promoted by Tang Yao. Tang Yao named Huji Yuyoutai (now southwest of Wugong County, Shaanxi Province, China).
