On May 14, 1925, Lu Xiaoman wrote in his diary: "I suffered from a lot of sickness and Xinhai (concern) this time. Both of them are so nice, huh! I'm so sorry to them. They are also really concerned. Xin Hai Tiantian is not afraid of going all the way, every day when he comes back from Tsinghua University, he refuses all entertainment and come to accompany me. I really appreciate them."
Lu Xiaoman after Xu Zhimo's death I wrote a letter to Hu Shi, in which it said, "Although we have disagreeed in our opinions in the past two years, how can our feelings differ because of minor misunderstandings? You know that I have few friends, let alone confidants. Say, if I can’t live comfortably, how can I work quietly? This is the most important thing. How can you leave me alone? I’m afraid you can’t bear it like this!”
Lu Xiaoman also asked Hu Shi to help solve the economic problem in the letter. Hu Shi said he could, but he put forward three conditions: First, he hoped to give up the hobby (taking opium); second, stay away from Weng Ruiwu; third, come to Nanjing quickly, by Hu Shi To arrange the life and work of life. Lu Xiaoman directly rejected the three conditions put forward by Hu Shi. Since then, Lu Xiaoman has been living with Weng Ruiwu, smoking opium has become the norm. Hu Shi was not Xu Zhimo and would not be tolerant to Lu Xiaoman, and the two gradually lost contact.
