Of course, Bao Zheng did not stay in the position of supervisory censor for long. Due to the needs of the imperial court, Bao Zheng's official positions have been constantly changing. He served as a judge of the Third Division of Household Affairs and a transit envoy in many places, and then was transferred back to the court again as the deputy envoy of the Third Division of Household Affairs.
In the second year of Huangyou's reign (1050), Bao Zheng was awarded the post of Zhijian Yuan. During his tenure, he worked seriously and rigorously, impeached powerful officials many times, and focused on how to eliminate domestic insecurity factors.

Bao Zheng's official career seemed to be very smooth up to this point, but in the second year of Zhihe (1055), Bao Zheng was demoted due to official mistakes. Of course, this life of being demoted did not last long. The following year, Bao Zheng was reinstated as a doctor in the Ministry of Punishment and an official of Jiangning Prefecture.
By the end of this year, Bao Zheng was called and appointed as the powerful magistrate of Kaifeng Mansion. Quan Zhi Kaifeng Mansion was the official position held by Bao Zheng, who was most familiar to everyone at that time. Many stories about Bao Zheng hearing the prison lawsuits and eliminating bandits were mostly concentrated in this period. In the third year of Jiayou's reign (1058), Bao Zheng was promoted again and began to serve as Youjianyi doctor and Quan was appointed as Yushi Zhongcheng.

This official position was the highest in Bao Zheng's life, but Bao Zheng did not stay in this official position for long. The following year, 64-year-old Bao Zheng passed away. Considering his hard work throughout his life, Bao Zheng was posthumously awarded the title of "Xiaosu" as the Minister of Rites.
Throughout Bao Zheng's life, he made many suggestions that would benefit the country and the people. Later, during the process of hearing the prison lawsuit, Bao Zheng was more realistic and tried to avoid an unjust case as much as possible. Because of this, "Bao Qingtian" was widely known as "Bao Qingtian".

. Compared with Bao Zheng’s career which had few twists and turns, Hai Rui’s career can be described as ups and downs. After Hai Rui won the national examination, he had great ambitions to achieve some results, but he did not meet a good enough master.
At that time, the emperor of Ming Dynasty was Ming Shizong Zhu Houcong. After this person reigned for a period of time, he no longer went to court to listen to politics, but stayed in the Xiyuan of the palace to fast and worship gods wholeheartedly.
Regarding Zhu Houcong 's series of absurd actions, the ministers of the DPRK and the Central Government naturally had to go to court to persuade him. Of course, this did not awaken Zhu Houcong. At the end of the day, all the ministers gave up trying to persuade the emperor, except Hai Rui who still persisted.

Zhu Houcong became furious after seeing Hai Rui's memorial and wanted to put Hai Rui in jail. But at this time he heard that Hai Rui was not worried about the emperor's anger. "History of Ming Dynasty·Biography of Hai Rui" records:
"This man has always had a crazy reputation. When I heard about him, he knew that he would die if he violated the law. He bought a coffin and bid farewell to his wife and punished the court. The servants also scattered and there was no one left, so they would not escape."
Zhu Houcong therefore forgave Hai Rui and said to the people around him: "This man can be used than Gan , I am not a tyrant. "

At this time, Hai Rui was the head of the Yunnan Department of the Ministry of Household Affairs. He was very upright during his tenure. Zhu Houcong did not want to listen to Hai Rui's advice every day, so he simply threw Hai Rui into prison. It was not until the outside world changed, Ming Mu Zong Zhu Zaihe succeeded, that Hai Rui was released official and resumed his post.
Then Hai Rui was re-appointed many times under the arrangement of Mu Zong. In the third year of Longqing (1569), Hai Rui served as the imperial envoy of Youqiandu and was transferred to the governor of Yingtian. From then on, Hai Rui was the same as Bao Zheng when he was in Kaifeng Mansion. He was recognized and loved by the people because of his clear understanding of the court proceedings and the removal of many unjust sentences.

After Ming Shenzong came to the throne, he actually wanted to reuse Hai Rui, but unfortunately Hai Rui was too strict and upright. Zhang Juzheng, who presided over the state affairs, disliked Hai Rui very much. Although some people had recommended Hai Rui for many years, Hai Rui did not get promoted in his official career because of Zhang Juzheng.
It was not until the 12th year of Wanli (1584) that Zhang Juzheng passed away, and the emperor began to use Hai Rui. In the first month of the following year, Ming Shenzong hoped that Hai Rui could serve as the censor of Nanjing's Youqian capital. But for some unknown reason, Hai Rui was reassigned as the right minister of Nanjing's official department on his way to office.

When Hai Rui became the right minister of the Ministry of Civil Affairs in Nanjing, he was already 72 years old . He really wanted to retire and take care of himself, but Ming Shenzong was unwilling to let him go. He thought of giving Hai Rui a high-level official position to keep him, but unfortunately "the ruling was full of troubles", In the end the emperor had no choice but to appoint Hai Rui as the censor of the right capital of Nanjing.
In the fifteenth year of Wanli (1587), "Hai Qingtian", who was as famous as Bao Qingtian, died in office, and ended his life.

Who has the higher official position, Bao Zheng or Hai Rui?
Regarding the question of which one, Bao Zheng or Hai Rui, has the higher official position, if is simply based on the highest official position that the two have held htm Judging from the situation, Bao Zheng, who serves as deputy envoy to the Privy Council, can be understood as the second-in-command of the Privy Council. His status is second only to the Privy Envoy and slightly inferior to the political advisor. He is a second-rank official.
Since the Northern Song Dynasty mainly implemented the policy of checks and balances on cultural relics, the Privy Council divided the responsibilities of the political affairs hall. As the highest military and political institution in the Northern Song Dynasty, its internal officials had a critical position in the court.

The Privy Council is a very important institution in the Northern Song Dynasty
and Youdu Yushi is an official system established in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It needs to be emphasized here that the Ming Dynasty implemented a two-capital system. Although Zhu Di later moved the capital to Beijing in the period, Nanjing was the original capital of the Ming Dynasty after all, which led to Nanjing's very important status at that time.
and Nanjing also retains the same bureaucracy as Beijing. Ming Shenzong could not invite Hai Rui to the previous dynasty, so he changed his mind and asked Hai Rui to be the censor of Nanjing Youdu. This official position was the same as the function and rank of the censor of Youdu in Nanjing. In other words, Hai Rui was also a second-grade official.
Looking at it this way, the official positions of Hai Rui and Bao Zheng are actually the same.

If the official positions of Bao Zheng and Hai Rui were put to the present
But if it were put to the present, Bao Zheng holds the position of Privy Deputy, is equivalent to " Vice Chairman of the Military Commission + Deputy Minister of Defense", belongs to deputy state-level cadres, and Hai Rui serves as the censor of Nanjing Youdu, is equivalent to today's deputy president of the Supreme Court, can enjoy the treatment of a ministerial level.
In other words, the official positions held by Bao Zheng and Hai Rui in their respective eras, and today, are all positions above the deputy ministerial level. However, compared with the ministerial level, the deputy state level is better. Based on this judgment, Bao Zheng's official position is higher than that of Hai Rui.

The reason why the two had the same official rank in their era is actually because the Song Dynasty emphasized civility over military affairs.
However, from the perspective of authority, Bao Zheng held more real power than Hai Rui.
