After Zhou Dynasty in the Sui Dynasty, Li Yuan served as the remaining position in Taiyuan. When he raised an army to rebel against the Sui Dynasty, Li Yuan called himself the "King of Tang" and later established himself as the emperor to establish the "Tang" dynasty. In the late Sui Dynasty, a large-scale peasant uprising broke out, shaking the foundation of the rule of the Sui Dynasty. In May of the 13th year of Daye (617), Li Yuan, who believed that the time had come, raised an army in Jinyang. In November of that year, he contributed to Chang'an and supported Emperor Yang of Sui Yang to Emperor Gong of Sui, and changed his reign to Yining. Li Yuan was appointed as the prime minister and was granted the title of King of Tang. In May of the second year of Yining (618), Li Yuan abolished Yang You and formally called Emperor, and established the country as Tang, and the Sui Dynasty was destroyed. Li Yuan was Emperor Gaozu of Tang, and changed his reign to Wude and established his capital in Chang'an. Li Yuan made the eldest son Li Jian the crown prince, the second son Li Shimin the king of Qin, the third son Li Yuanba died young, and the fourth son Li Yuanji the king of Qi.
