In August 1970, the Second Plenary Session of the Ninth Central Committee was held in Lushan. Chairman Mao had already left Beijing in early August. He took this opportunity to inspect South , passed through Shijiazhuang and Zhengzhou, and then arrived in Wuhan. After living in Wuhan for a few days, Chairman Mao continued to set off south after handling some matters in Wuhan.
train quickly arrived at Nanchang . The time has come on August 19th. At this time, Nanchang was in a sultry time. Chairman Mao rested in Nanchang for a night and went to Lushan the next day.

Chairman Mao was soaked in the process of going to Lushan, so before he arrived in Lushan, Chairman Mao said to the guard: "The first thing we do when we arrived in Lushan is to go swimming."
The guard knew that Chairman Mao liked swimming the most and agreed to him.
The mountains of Lushan are very steep and the cars drive very slowly. As we climb higher and higher, the temperature is getting lower and lower. When we arrive in Lushan, the stuffy heat is swept away, and it is even a little chilly. The guards hurried to find a place to swim and finally settled in Lushan Reservoir. The water in the reservoir was a little cold that day.
The guard was worried that the 77-year-old Chairman Mao would not be able to bear it, but he said it was okay. He said that the water was a little cooler and it would be more comfortable when swimming. Chairman Mao’s swimming level was very high. He could lie on the water at will without sinking. The guards around him also swim with him to ensure Chairman Mao’s safety.

Looking at these young guards, Chairman Mao said: I can't compare to you in speed, but if I compare endurance, who has been swimming for a longer time, I can participate.
In fact, this is not the first time Chairman Mao has swam in Lushan, and he is familiar with the surrounding scenes, so Chairman Mao was very happy that day.
On August 29, the Second Plenary Session of the 9th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China was officially held in the Lushan Small Hall. After Chairman Mao entered the venue, Premier Zhou, Lin Biao and other five members of the Standing Committee had already entered the venue and took their seats off the stage.
After Chairman Mao entered the venue, he officially announced the opening of the plenary session. Premier Zhou began to preside over the meeting. The opening ceremony lasted for an hour. When it was about to end, Chairman Mao stood up and asked everyone what they had. No one spoke in the audience. Just as Chairman Mao announced the end of the meeting, Lin Shuai suddenly stood up and said he wanted to speak.

Lin Shuai's speech did not communicate with Chairman Mao in advance, which was completely an unexpected action. Lin Shuai spent a lot of space to praise Chairman Mao and called Chairman Mao a genius, and then said that the country would establish the President of the State to allow Chairman Mao to be elected.
praises the part that praised Chairman Mao, which caused a burst of applause from the audience, but Chairman Mao did not applaud and looked embarrassed.
Chairman Mao does not like others to praise him, nor does he like others to say that he is a genius, and he is even more unwilling to be the position of President of the country.
For this matter, Chairman Mao couldn't sleep for several days. At the meeting on the 25th, he criticized this remark and rejected the request to establish the President. Chairman Mao said : If you continue like this, I will go down the mountain , . let you make trouble. Whoever insists on setting up will be the one who is not. Anyway, I don't."

Why did Chairman Mao not want to be the President of the State, and why did Lin Shuai knowingly commit it?
In fact, Lin Shuai asked Chairman Mao to be the President of the State, and proposed it at the conference that he had his own selfish intentions. He knew that Chairman Mao was unwilling to be the state, and then proposed to ask for it again. The position of President of the State was established, so Chairman Mao was not properly appointed, so he, the second-in-command, was naturally the second-in-command.
At that time, Lin Shuai almost controlled all the troops, and the identity of the successor had been written into Party Constitution . Why did he rush to be the President of the State? Moreover, he was much younger than Chairman Mao. At that time, Chairman Mao was 77 years old and his health was not as good as before. Many people were puzzled by this.

But in fact, people have always been greedy. The greater the power in their hands, the more Lin Shuai wanted to show it. So nominally, he still felt that something was missing. Lin Shuai once said to his confidants: is just a symbol, and there are many uncertainties about the future.
people have always liked to get and hate loss. For Lin Shuai, the peak of his pursuit of all day is almost the same as the time goes by. The more time goes by, the more accidents, so he is anxious to grab it and become a reality.
Secondly, before the meeting was held, Lin Shuai had many disagreements with Chairman Mao. The Chairman persuaded him earnestly and had a lot of opinions about him. Therefore, it is also based on this that Lin Shuai may feel panic and put forward this request at the meeting.

plus his personal personality problems, Lin Shuai has always been taciturn and holds everything in his stomach. People who do not easily reveal their feelings often have more thoughts in their hearts. In addition, the inconsistency between his wife and son, it is not surprising that he does this. Many people in are not in their position, so it is difficult for them to understand Lin Shuai's behavior.
At the end of this meeting, Lin Shuai's life was regrettable, but that sentence is well said, "I deserve the credit and the mistakes." Although Lin Shuai made serious mistakes, his contributions to the War of Resistance Against Japan and the War of Liberation are still worthy of recognition.
