In the revolutionary years of the past, there is no doubt that Chairman Mao and Premier Zhou were definitely a pair of golden partners.
However, because of this, it is surprising that just after Premier Zhou died of illness on January 8, 1976, Chairman Mao, a comrade-in-arms who had walked a long road to revolution, finally not only did not attend the Prime Minister's memorial service, but even refused Premier Zhou's "dedication on his deathbed."
So, why didn’t Chairman Mao attend the Prime Minister’s memorial service?
What is Premier Zhou’s “dedication”?
bad news came
cancer, which is a disease that made countless people afraid of talking about it. and Premier Zhou was found to have cancer in 1972.
It was May 11, 1972. On that day, Premier Zhou, who was obsessed with work, failed to "bear" Deng Yingchao's soft and hard attacks. The health care doctor called by Deng Yingchao gave a rough examination of his body.
Because in the previous several routine physical examinations, there was no inappropriate problem with his body, Premier Zhou turned his head and complained that Deng Yingchao was "interesting", which affected his work efficiency.
clinker, there was no sign of bad news. During this examination, health care doctor Zhang Zuoliang found " urine occult blood positive " from Premier Zhou's routine urine examination report, that is, the urine contains "blood-red balls".
It is true that Premier Zhou was 74 years old at that time. For such an elderly man, it is normal for one or two red blood cells to appear in his urine sample.
But the problem is that on Premier Zhou’s examination list, the examination results of the red blood cells column have reached two to four times the above level, which makes Zhang Zuolliang have to worry about whether will have tumors "grow" in Premier Zhou’s urinary system.
Just like that, the worried Zhang Zuoliao immediately found Ms. Deng Yingchao with the freshly released inspection report and explained to her everything about the abnormality of Premier Zhou's physical condition. When he heard that the Prime Minister was in a state of ill condition, Ms. Deng Yingchao would certainly not delay and immediately took him to find Premier Zhou.
"Prime Minister, the examination results of the previous two days are not normal. is in danger of getting sick. I suggest another more comprehensive examination..."
When Zhang Zuoliang saw Premier Zhou, although he was a little nervous, he still expressed his suggestions. Then, Ms. Deng Yingchao hurriedly persuaded the Prime Minister, hoping to allow the Prime Minister to undergo a more comprehensive examination.
And when the Prime Minister finished listening to this sentence, he only heard him "resentment":
"You guys, aren't you just worried about my body? I'm a 74-year-old man, how could it be like when I was young? Okay! Since you insist, I'll go and check it."
Just like that, with the company of Deng Yingchao and Zhang Zuoliao, Premier Zhou conducted a comprehensive and systematic examination at Beijing Hospital .
As for the final test results, unfortunately, 74-year-old Premier Zhou suffered from bladder cancer .
devoted all his time
After the inspection results came out, not only Deng Yingchao and Zhang Zuoliao who came with him became solemn, but Premier Zhou himself also found it difficult to accept it for a while.
In order to determine the accuracy of the diagnosis, Premier Zhou next conducted examinations in Peking Union Hospital , PLA 301 Hospital and other hospitals, but the results of repeated examinations in the above-mentioned hospitals are all the same as the initial diagnosis results - it is bladder cancer.
After Premier Zhou's confirmed report came out, the relevant personnel immediately forwarded the message to Chairman Mao. When Chairman Mao learned that his closest comrade had cancer, his mood certainly became gloomy.
There is no doubt that as a pair of partners who have been together for decades, Chairman Mao certainly understands Premier Zhou’s style. Therefore, he knew very well that even if Comrade Zhou Enlai had been diagnosed with cancer, he would still stick to the front line of work.
So, in order to give this "desperate mafia" who is suffering from cancer enough rest, Chairman Mao specially asked his secretary Zhang Yufeng to convey his "order" to Premier Zhou, and asked him to obey the doctor's opinions, especially paying attention to supplementing nutrition and sufficient rest.
Helplessly, Chairman Mao’s “order” came, but this time, Premier Zhou did not directly comply as before.
Although Premier Zhou always acts very well when the medical team treats him, when the doctor in the medical team leaves, the Prime Minister will leave the doctor's advice that will make him pay attention to rest. Even Deng Yingchao who is by his side cannot stop Premier Zhou from working day and night.
There is such a data:
During the period from January to May 1974, Premier Zhou had a total of 9 days of working hours, ranging from 12 to 14 hours; 74 days of working hours, ranging from 14 to 18 hours; what is particularly shocking is that in the cumulative period of 5 days, Premier Zhou had a total of 24 hours of working hours. The intensity of work such as
is in front of you. Even ordinary people with good health will get sick, let alone Premier Zhou, a patient who has been diagnosed with cancer.
So, since Premier Zhou almost ignored letting his body rest and always devoted himself to work, shortly after the diagnosis, his physical condition naturally became worse and worse as the condition deteriorated rapidly.
Deng Yingchao recalled that after the condition worsened, because the coagulated blood clot blocked the urethra, every time Premier Zhou urinated, it seemed painful and difficult. Sometimes, the residual blood clots were blocked in the urethra, which also caused Premier Zhou to be unable to fall asleep due to unbearable pain.
It was precisely because things have reached this point that Premier Zhou was willing to, under Ms. Deng Yingchao's persuasion, temporarily stopped the work at hand in May 1974 and submitted a report on the operation to Chairman Mao.
In the following time, Premier Zhou underwent 13 major and small surgeries one after another. On average, surgery is performed every 40 days. This is why, although the surgery relieves Premier Zhou's symptoms, such high frequency surgery has greatly affected the Prime Minister's physical condition.
In a 1975 report on illness submitted to Chairman Mao, Premier Zhou mentioned that he had lost from 150 kilograms to less than 70 kilograms at that time. How could he look like a healthy old man?
As his physical condition deteriorated, on January 7, 1976, Premier Zhou, who was already very weak, fell into a coma one afternoon. After being rescued by the medical team members with all their might, he did not wake up until 11 p.m. on January 7.
However, what unexpectedly happened to all the comrades present, including Deng Yingchao and Li Xiannian, after waking up from a coma, Premier Zhou did not tell his pain, but just said to the doctors standing by the bed:
"Thank you, thank you for your hard work, I have nothing to do here, you should take care of other comrades who are sick, and you need you even more..."
That's right, this is the last sentence in Premier Zhou's life. Until the last moment of his life, he still chose to care for others. The glorious and majestic personality is undoubtedly touching.
htmlOn the morning of the 8th, with the company of comrades such as Deng Yingchao, Premier Zhou finally came to the end of his life. After the doctor announced that the Prime Minister's vital signs had completely disappeared, Ms. Deng Yingchao endured her grief, came to the Prime Minister tremblingly, lowered her head and kissed her.
She said: "Enlai, you are gone..."
devoted himself to his work until his death. Looking at Premier Zhou's life, these eight words were simply born for him.
Since being appointed as Prime Minister of the Republic, this revolutionary soldier who has worked hard all the way has always had a heart for the country and the people, the ideal of building a new China for the people, and has worked diligently in office and dedicated to the public.
In the end, he was like a candle that illuminated the darkness, burning his whole life.
Say goodbye to comrades
On January 8, 1976, Chairman Mao was resting under the care of the nurse Meng Jinyun on duty. Since Zhang Yaoci, who is responsible for protecting the safety of the Chairman, reminded Meng Jinyun in advance that he would inform him of the news of the Prime Minister's death when the Chairman was in a stable mood, Chairman Mao did not know that Premier Zhou had passed away at this time.
At around 2 pm, Chairman Mao was resting near the swimming pool of Zhongnanhai . According to previous practice, during the rest, the Chairman would ask Meng Jinyun to read newspapers and documents for himself.
At this time, Meng Jinyun saw that the Chairman was in good spirits and decided to read out the Prime Minister's obituary.
In order not to let the old man be too excited after hearing the Prime Minister's obituary, she first lowered her body and told the Chairman that there was something very important to tell him. When the Chairman was ready and asked Meng Jinyun to say it, the girl took out the obituary sent by Zhang Yaoshi in the morning and said:
"The great proletarian revolutionary of the Chinese people, outstanding communist warfare Comrade Zhou Enlai, a scholar, died of cancer and was ineffective in his treatment. He died in Beijing at 9:57 on January 8, 1976..."
Meng Jinyun
Meng Jinyun was halfway through reading the obituary, and Meng Jinyun was already in tears because of her sorrow in her heart, and her voice was filled with crying. When she looked up to see the Chairman's reaction, she realized that the Chairman had also cried.
In fact, how could the Chairman not know that Premier Zhou’s death was in these days? After all, as early as mid-November 1975, the Chairman had learned that the old comrade was very weak and could not even get out of bed or eat.
However, I have long known that compared to actually hearing the death of my old friend, these are two completely different feelings. For a moment, Chairman Mao naturally felt sad, not only his hands trembled, but also his face was filled with tears.
After Premier Zhou passed away, the obituary and eulogy were soon prepared. The list of funeral committees was also determined after a Politburo meeting chaired by Prince Deng on the 8th.
Zhang Yufeng is Chairman Mao’s life secretary. In the last six years of the chairman, she has been responsible for connecting with the chairman. So, after the list of the funeral committee was confirmed, she handed the report to Chairman Mao, whose emotions gradually stabilized.
After that, with the approval of Chairman Mao, the funeral committee of Dong 4 was chaired by Deng, and the major newspapers across the country also published the obituary of Premier Zhou on January 9. For a moment, the whole country fell into great grief because of this sudden bad news.
On the same day that the newspaper published the obituary of Premier Zhou’s death, Ms. Deng Yingchao submitted the last wishes left by Premier Zhou to Chairman Mao. That was left in November 1975, after the Prime Minister knew that his life was not long.
Premier Zhou told Deng Yingchao that he had three instructions for his funeral after death:
First of all, the ashes are not retained, because from the burial of the tomb to the scattering of the ashes after cremation, this is the last and most thorough revolution of funeral customs;
Secondly, the funeral should not be special or surpass anyone;
Finally, the funeral should not be held in a memorial service, nor should the body farewell ceremony be held.
Prime Minister said that he should set an example by example in the above three points.
In the face of the Prime Minister's last wishes reposted by Deng Yingchao, Chairman Mao still rejected the next two points after a while. He said: "Enlai has made great contributions to the New China. If the memorial service is not held, we will not be able to explain to the people of the whole country."
In this way, Premier Zhou's memorial service was arranged on the afternoon of the 15th.
0 Let’s talk about the memorial ceremony, because it is in a special period and someone interferes with it, many people want to know whether Chairman Mao will participate in Premier Zhou’s memorial ceremony. Among them, Secretary Zhang Yufeng, out of respect for Premier Zhou, certainly hoped that Chairman Mao would go and participate.
However, after the date of the memorial ceremony was determined, Chairman Mao was always "very secretive" about whether to attend the memorial ceremony, neither saying that he would attend nor not attend, which made Zhang Yufeng feel deeply worried.
One day, Zhang Yufeng finally got up the courage to ask Chairman Mao this question. She asked: "Chairman, it's been rumored outside that you are going to attend the Prime Minister's memorial service. . Are you going? There is no accurate letter..."
Unexpectedly, just this question, Chairman Mao became sad again.
I saw the chairman pounding his legs with a very "anger" look, and then replied, "It can no longer walk, it can't go anymore..."
It turned out that Chairman Mao's body had collapsed at this time. Not only could he eat some liquid food every day, he could only sit in a wheelchair and be pushed by someone when he moved.
Therefore, although the Chairman really hoped that he could send this revolutionary comrade-in-arms in person, in the end, in a helpless manner, he had to give up participating in the memorial service and expressed his longing for the Prime Minister only by reviewing Premier Zhou’s funeral documents.
On the afternoon of January 15, in the north hall of the Great Auditorium of the People, a coffin covered with flowers was quietly lying. In the coffin, a great man who had given everything to the New China was quietly lying, accepting everyone's condolences.
At 7 pm, holding the remaining ashes of Premier Zhou were cremated after the memorial ceremony was completed, Deng Yingchao boarded a plane prepared in advance. Next, she would personally scatter the Prime Minister's ashes, , scattered in the air over Beijing, scattered in the Miyun Reservoir, scattered in the estuary of the Haihe , and scattered in the estuary of the Yellow River.
And that night, the Chairman held a photo of him and the Prime Minister, staring at the sky, and said nothing. The picture in that photo was the last time he and Premier Zhou shook hands in public in 1974.
ending
Premier Zhou left, but I think there seems to be no such perfect person in this world as the Prime Minister.
Facing lovers and wife , he said, "I have been a firm materialist in my life, only you, I hope there will be a next life."
Facing comrades and comrades , he said, "There will always be sacrificed in the revolution. We are survivors, as long as we have a breath, we must work for the party!"
is the country and the people , he said, "We should put our whole body and mind on the cause of communism, take the suffering of the people as our worries, and think about the future of the country."
There is no doubt that in the 78 years of life that the Prime Minister has gone through, he always put the party and the people first, and showed people with his own actions what it means to "the silkworm will not end until the death of the silkworm."
To this day, Premier Zhou, who shines on China, has left us for 46 years.
And now, I want to say:
Premier, this is what you wish!
