In ancient Chinese history, in the early years of the Western Han Dynasty and in the Tang Dynasty are often compared. However, what makes people feel uncomfortable is that the heroine is all over the tyrant, and even Empress Wu once proclaimed himself emperor and established the court of Wu Zhou. However, after the death of Wu Zetian, the Wu family was not liquidated. On the contrary, not long after Empress Lu passed away, the Lu family was purged by the Western Han Dynasty court. So, why are the female protagonists who are both tyrannical and the aftermath of Empress Lu and Empress Wu have completely different things?
1. Differences in the situation
In fact, the situations facing Empress Lu and Empress Wu are completely different.
As early as Liu Bang was alive, Liu Bang was worried that the Western Han Dynasty would be controlled by powerful ministers and relatives, so Liu Bang enthroned a large number of Liu family relatives as princes and kings in various places. The existence of princes and kings also greatly curbed the development of Empress Lü's power. During the reign of Empress Lü, two monarchs of the Western Han Dynasty: the former Shaodi and the latter Shaodi. The two young emperors in the Western Han Dynasty were children. Therefore, after Empress Lü's death, the power of the Western Han Dynasty appeared in a vacuum: the Later Shao Emperor could not rule in charge. Therefore, the elders of the Western Han Dynasty court and the princes of the Liu family launched an activity to eradicate the Lu family. After the Lu family was eradicated, the elders considered to eliminate the roots, believing that the Later Shao Emperor was Empress Lu's grandson after all and could not be kept. So, the Hou Shaodi was killed. Later, after the murder of Shaodi , the lineage of the Western Han Dynasty also changed.
The situation during the Empress of Wu was completely different.
As early as , the Gaoyang Princess incident occurred in the Tang Dynasty court. This incident led to the purge of many ministers of the Tang Dynasty. Later, Empress Wu used the Changsun Wuji incident to clean up the Tang Dynasty court. During this process, Empress Wu promoted a large number of her confidants in the court. This also created conditions for the later Empress Wu to depose Li Xian , Li Dan and directly proclaim himself emperor: after all, the ministers of the court were promoted by themselves.
In the late reign of Empress Wu, although some old ministers of the Tang Dynasty supported Li Xian to create a " Shenlong Revolution " to support Li Xian to restore the throne. But the situation is different from the affairs of Empress Lu. On the one hand, Li Xian was the parent-child of Empress Wu after all, and the legitimacy of Li Xian's second ascension to the throne was based on Empress Wu's "inner Zen". On the other hand, the ministers supported Li Xian's reinstatement just to establish good relations with the future emperor, and there was no need to make things too stiff.
So, this is one of the reasons why Empress Lu and Empress Wu have completely different things.
2, strength difference
In addition, the strength difference between Empress Lü and Empress Wu is also destined to be the difference between the two.
Although many people have been accustomed to comparing Empress Lu and Empress Wu in history, the gap between the two is 100,800 miles. The source of power of Empress Lu's regent was based on her being the queen of Emperor Gaozu of Han, the biological mother of Emperor Hui of Han, and the grandmother of Emperor Shao. Therefore, Empress Lü's identity was always the regent Queen Mother. Under the constraints of the elders in the court and local princes, Empress Lu's power was never able to grow, and becoming a restricted queen mother was already the upper limit for Empress Lu to gain power. Assuming that there is really a gate of time and space, someone really travels through the gate of time and space to the era of Empress Lu, telling Empress Lu about Wu Zetian, and then assuming that Empress Lu was obsessed with believing in it and following the imitation. Then, Empress Lü is likely to die miserably: at least the princes of the Liu family would fight against Empress Lü, and the elders of the Western Han Dynasty court would also take the opportunity to attack Empress Lü.
Martial Empress is stronger than Empress Lü. At first, Empress Wu's source of power was the empress of Emperor Gaozong of Tang, but as Empress Wu promoted a large number of officials in Emperor Gaozong's court and arranged his own power, Empress Wu was actually already a tyrant. The legal basis for Wu Zetian's degree is Tang Ruizong's abdication. Procedurally speaking, Wu Zetian's throne is legal.
Although there are opponents in both the regent and the emperor of the Martial Arts Empress, the opponents are not very powerful. In the late Wu Zhou period, the main body of the Wu Zhou court was still the bureaucrats promoted by Wu Zetian. The legal basis for Li Xian's restoration was also mentioned in the previous article: it was not the overthrow of Wu Zhou, but Wu Zetian's abdication.
This means that the martial arts family is safe in terms of legal principles and strength.
