There is a railway museum not far from the north of Badaling Great Wall - Zhan Tianyou Memorial Hall . It was established to commemorate Zhan Tianyou, who has made outstanding contributions in the history of modern railway construction in China. The museum displays many authentic cultural relics donated by Zhan Tianyou's family, which are very valuable.
Zhan Tianyou was selected by the Qing government to study in the United States at the age of 11. He was admitted to the Civil Engineering Department of Yale University at the age of 17, majoring in railway engineering, and graduated from the age of 20 and returned to China. He is an expert in modern railway engineering in China and the first chief railway engineer in China. He is known as the "father of China's railways " and the "father of China's modern engineering".
Zhan Tianyou presided over the construction of the first railway independently designed and built by China_ Jingzhang Railway , which is the first railway in China that does not use foreign funds and personnel, designed and put into operation by the Chinese. Many of the cultural relics in the Zhan Tianyou Memorial Hall are related to the Beijing-Zhangjiakou Railway.
Not far from Zhan Tianyou Museum, there is a century-old station_ Qinglongqiao Railway Station , which is a station of the Beijing-Zhangjiakou Railway. In 1922, the bronze statue of Zhan Tianyou and the stele pavilion were erected at the station, which is a full 100 years ago. There are also ruins of the ancient Great Wall on both sides of the station line, and there are also station cats waiting here.
Qinglongqiao Railway Station was completed and opened to traffic in 1908 and has a history of more than 110 years. The old station is dignified and elegant, with a very cultural temperament and background. In recent years, China's railways have developed rapidly and station construction has emerged one after another. It is large in scale and advanced in technology, but often lacks temperament and background. These old stations are worth studying and learning.
