Yidu is located in the southwest of Hubei Province. It has been known as the "HTM1 Three Gorges City Gate" since ancient times. The entire base consists of Factory 238 (Xiangyang), Factory 288 ( Yangtze River ), Factory 388 (Central and South), 712 and 717. The arsenal settled in Yidu, and a small county dominated by agriculture entered the industrial era. Several major arsenals not only bring about improvements in Yidu's industrial level, but also brings nearly 30,000 high-tech talents. In the 1960s, Yidu County had a total population of only about 200,000, and more than 30,000 people who have been educated in literature and science and technology were filled in, allowing Yidu to move from a backward customary society to a civilized society. What came to Yidu to build a factory was the international situation, but what was moved away was the need for industrial development. What was left was the abandoned building complex.
238 Factory was established in 1965 and started construction in 1966. 238 is the internal number of the military system and the code of the military industry. Its external factory is the state-owned Xiangyang Optical Instrument Factory. Most of the terrain of Yidu is mountainous. The central government proposed the site selection principle of "backing, scattered, and hidden". For places like Yidu, you can find a place suitable for building a factory. 238 factory was built by Factory 248 and Factory 627. 248 and 627 are two of the 156 key items during the "First Five-Year Plan" period, and are old factories that were built relatively early in the military system. The equipment is advanced and the technical strength is strong. During the construction of the third line, these two factories have countless factories that have assisted, contracted and demolished. The reason why these two factories have strong technical strength and advanced equipment is that their technology comes from the Soviet Union. It's funny to say that the Soviet Union helped our country build an arsenal, and finally relocated the factory to prevent the Soviet Union. 238 factory mainly produces military products such as optical sight gauge, laser rangefinder , optical fiber detectors, etc. The technology comes from the two factories 627 and 248. The two factories have drawn nearly 1,000 technical and management backbones, and then recruited corresponding college students from professional colleges and universities in Beijing, Xi'an, Wuhan, Shanghai, Changsha, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Chongqing and other places. Among them are most of the demobilized soldiers and activists promoted from the militia battalions, and of course a small number of them are villagers who have acquired land.
During the peak period, there were as many as 2,000 employees in the factory in 238, plus nearly 5,000 employees in the entire living area.
