When he became an adult, he lamented the current situation of the country and came up with the idea of ​​joining the army to serve the country, but he was opposed by his father.

But Du Yuming was determined and came to Guangzhou to apply for Huangpu Military Academy despite the obstruction of his father and family.

But when he came to Guangzhou after a long journey, he found that he had missed the time to apply for the exam.

Seeing this, Du Yuming originally wanted to give up and wait until next year to apply again. But when people who were traveling with him learned that his father was close friends with Yu Youren, a veteran of the Kuomintang, they suggested that Du Yuming write a letter to Mr. Yu personally to let him clear things up.

After Yu Youren received Du Yuming's letter, he directly wrote a couplet and sent it to Du Yuming, and also wrote a letter of recommendation.

Du Yuming and others got the letter and couplets and asked to see Chiang Kai-shek, and got a chance to make up the exam.

When Chiang Kai-shek saw the couplet written by Yu Youren, he couldn't put it down and repeatedly praised Yu Lao's superb calligraphy.

Du Yuming was also a smart person. He immediately understood what Chiang Kai-shek meant and gave the couplet to him.

Not long after, Du Yuming successfully passed the exam and entered the Whampoa Military Academy, becoming the first batch of students.

However, because Du Yuming was not very active in the military academy, he did not leave a very deep impression on Chiang Kai-shek.

But Du Yuming admired Chiang Kai-shek very much and believed that only Chiang Kai-shek could save China's future.

In 1925, Chiang Kai-shek ordered a crusade against the rebel Chen Jiongming. During Du Yuming's attack on Tamsui County, he and Chen Geng used a trick to open the gate of Tamsui County, allowing large troops to enter the city and annihilate the remaining enemies.

Due to his outstanding performance, Du Yuming received praise from Chiang Kai-shek and left a deep impression on Chiang Kai-shek.

After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, the Japanese army sent a large number of troops to attack South China in order to cut off China's southwest international transportation line.

The 21st Brigade of the Japanese Fifth Division, known as the "Steel Army", relied on its powerful firepower to successively occupy Nanning, Kunlun Pass and other areas.

With the whole of South China about to be taken over, Chiang Kai-shek ordered Du Yuming to lead the 5th Army to counterattack Kunlun Pass.

The 5th Army, with its advanced mechanized force combat concepts and record, has become one of the famous "five main forces" among Chiang Kai-shek's direct troops.

After Du Yuming became the commander of the 5th Army, he continued to conduct all-round training for the troops. In March 1939, during a review by the Kuomintang Military Commission, the military training of the 5th Army was ranked first in the country.

For this only mechanized army, Chiang Kai-shek regarded it as a treasure, and even placed it under his direct control, unwilling to put it into battlefield use easily.

At this time, if the Japanese army had not been approaching, Chiang Kai-shek would have been reluctant to use his "ace".

On December 10, Du Yuming commanded the team to arrive in the dense forest near Kunlun Pass, and ordered the construction of a position only three or four miles away from the Japanese forward position.

This was the first head-to-head confrontation between the Japanese "Steel Army" and China's most advanced mechanized forces at the time.

The 21st Brigade of the Banyuan Division guarding Kunlun Pass has strong fortifications on both sides of the pass, forming a cross-fire network that is easy to defend but difficult to attack.

Faced with this situation, Du Yuming had no choice but to attack Kunlun Pass and open up the road south. Only in this way can he regain Nanning, which was occupied by the Japanese army.

But if you adopt a strong attack method, you will definitely suffer huge losses. Du Yuming looked at the map in front of him and felt a headache.

After some hard thinking, plus various factors such as the terrain, the distribution of troops and firepower between the enemy and ourselves, etc.

Du Yuming decided to concentrate his superior forces first, destroy the Japanese fortresses and highlands surrounded on both sides of the pass, and then gradually narrow the encirclement.

On December 31, Du Yuming led the 5th Army to conquer Kunlun Pass and annihilated more than 5,000 people from the 21st Brigade.

Although Lin Biao entered the Northeast first, Du Yuming had already captured places such as Tieling and Fushun in western Liaoning and Shenyang after two years of campaign.

On June 30, 1947, after Du Yuming led his army to lift the siege of Siping, he formed a confrontation with Lin Biao.

But Lin Biao was no ordinary person. This situation made Du Yuming rack his brains to think of countermeasures.

However, due to Du Yuming's serious illness at this time, he had to leave Northeast China for treatment in Shanghai on July 8. After Du Yuming left, the military in Northeast China was temporarily in charge of Chen Cheng.

After one year of treatment, Du Yuming's body has basically recovered.

But Chiang Kai-shek did not let Du Yuming return to the Northeast, but transferred him to another Xuzhou as the deputy commander-in-chief of the "Suppression General".

While Du Yuming was undergoing ideological reform at the War Criminals Management Center, his wife Cao Xiuqing was living in Shanghai with their children.

After Du Yuming was captured, Chiang Kai-shek sent someone to tell Cao Xiuqing that Du Yuming had been killed by the Communist Party. He also asked Cao Xiuqing to take his family to Taiwan with him, promising that after arriving in Taiwan, he would cover all their family's living expenses and their children's tuition fees.

Cao Xiuqing was dubious about the news, but he still followed Chiang Kai-shek's words and took his children and family to Taiwan.

After Cao Xiuqing arrived in Taiwan, he discovered that everything was a scam by Chiang Kai-shek. Not only did he not have a place to live, he didn't even have living expenses.

In desperation, Cao Xiuqing had to go to Soong Meiling and Chiang Kai-shek, hoping that they could fulfill their previous promises.

But every time, Chiang Kai-shek would evade it with various reasons.

In fact, the reason why Chiang Kai-shek asked Cao Xiuqing to come to Taiwan was to use them as his hostages so that the Communist Party would not dare to use Du Yuming easily. At the same time, Du Yuming himself should also be fearful.

In Chiang Kai-shek's view, it was difficult for him to continue to trust the Kuomintang officers who were captured by the Communist Party.

Therefore, from the moment Du Yuming was captured, he had become an abandoned son of Chiang Kai-shek.

Faced with Du Yuming’s wife’s request, Chiang Kai-shek chose to turn a blind eye.

Finally, Cao Xiuqing found Du Yuming's old subordinate and asked for a job.

With this meager salary, Cao Xiuqing supported a family of seven and lived a very bleak life.

But for Cao Xiuqing, misfortunes appeared one after another in this family.

First, the mother-in-law missed her son so much that she fell ill and died, and then the eldest son Du Zhiren also committed suicide.

The reason for his suicide was that he was ill, which prevented him from working to help his mother ease her current predicament.

In order to treat his eldest son, Cao Xiuqing applied for a subsidy from Chiang Kai-shek. Chiang Kai-shek granted her one thousand yuan and stipulated that she would be paid within two years.

When Du Zhiren learned about this incident, he felt very angry. He thought that his father had worked for Chiang Kai-shek, but he ended up like this.

In anger, Du Zhiren committed suicide by swallowing a large amount of sleeping pills.

The death of her eldest son devastated Cao Xiuqing. She wrote to her eldest daughter Du Zhili to tell her the news.

The body was left for half a month

Du Zhili learned about his mother's plight from the letter and was heartbroken after hearing the news of his brother's death.Decided to bring them to live in the United States.

Coincidentally, Du Zhili’s husband is Yang Zhenning. Eight years after the two got married, Chen Ning Yang won the Nobel Prize.

This caused a very subtle change in the attitude of Chiang Kai-shek and his wife towards Cao Xiuqing.

For this reason, Song Meiling also approached Cao Xiuqing alone, hoping that she could go to the United States and bring Yang Zhenning back to Taiwan.

Cao Xiuqing agreed on the surface, but in fact, what he was thinking about was how to take away all his children.

However, Song Meiling naturally thought of this. She only allowed Cao Xiuqing to go to the United States alone.

Even if the other party proposed to bring a son to accompany her, Song Meiling would not agree. Moreover, she also set a time limit of only six months.

After Cao Xiuqing learned the news about Du Yuming, she was very excited and immediately prepared to buy a ticket to return to her husband.

However, he was secretly blocked by Chiang Kai-shek. After some twists and turns, Cao Xiuqing finally returned to the motherland in October 1963 and met the husband she had longed for.

However, the couple were reunited, but their children were still in Taiwan and could not see their parents.

On May 7, 1981, Du Yuming passed away due to illness.

At the last moment before his death, his biggest wish was to see the children he had not seen for many years. But the only people accompanying him were his wife Cao Xiuqing and his eldest daughter Du Zhili.

In fact, when Du Yuming was ill and hospitalized, Cao Xiuqing sent several telegrams to Chiang Ching-kuo , hoping that he could let his children see their father for the last time.

However, all the telegrams sent by Cao Xiuqing came to nothing.

When Du Yuming's comrade-in-arms Zheng Dongguo learned about this incident, he also scolded the Jiang family and his son for being cold and cruel. Poor Du Yuming worked hard for them in the early years, but now he can't even see his own children before he dies.

In this way, Du Yuming could not see his children who were far away in Taiwan until his death.

After Du Yuming passed away, Cao Xiuqing did not bury him immediately. Instead, he stored the body in the hospital and sent another telegram to Chiang Ching-kuo, begging him to let his children come back and take the last journey from their father.

But this time, Chiang Ching-kuo remained indifferent.

Du Yuming's body was stored for half a month, but there was still no news from Jiang Jingguo.

In desperation, Cao Xiuqing had no choice but to bury her husband's body in the ground.
