She and her family were helpless and could only watch the raging floods, submerging several acres of thin farmland and several mud houses on which their family relied for survival.
Soon, the entire village was submerged in the floods, and not a single tree of the crops in the fields was left. Floods broke out, diseases raged, mourners filled the land, and the land was desolate. The villagers had to drag their families with them and flee in all directions.
Father Guo led his family all the way north, not knowing where they were ahead. After walking for ten months, they arrived at Linxi County, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The whole family built a mud house and settled down at the foot of Straw Hat Mountain. Although Straw Hat Mountain is not considered wealthy, the people here can make a living by working for landlords.
Guo Junqing's family took refuge with a local landlord named Weng. Guo's father helped the landlord with some manual labor on weekdays, and his days went by like this day by day. However, in the winter of 1944, Guo's father was suddenly forced to die by the landlord. It is said that it was because Father Guo secretly picked up some sweet potato chips from the landlord's house.
After Guo Junqing's father died, Guo's mother cried all day long and became ill. The burden of supporting the family fell on Guo Junqing, who was only 14 years old. In order to get the same wages as men, Guo Junqing shaved his head, put on men's clothes, and looked for work opportunities. She asked many shops, but they were all unwilling to take her because she looked too thin and of no use!
Without the opportunity to work, the family could not fill their stomachs. Her 3-year-old sister also died that year. Whether from starvation or illness, we have no way of knowing. The family was desperate and without any friends, and was about to starve to death.
One day in August 1945, Guo Junqing suddenly saw a glimmer of hope. She accidentally discovered that there were female soldiers in the Soviet army stationed in Linxi county, and he realized that not only men can serve as soldiers, but women can also. Guo Junqing's heart was full of hatred. The image of her father being brutally murdered by a landlord lingered in her mind, so she thought, "I want to become a soldier to avenge my father."
In September 1945, the Eighth Route Army took over Linxi County . 14-year-old Guo Junqing disguised herself as a man and went by the pseudonym Guo Fu. She lied about being 16 years old and came to the recruitment department to ask to be a soldier. She was thin and had no beard. The young comrades who recruited her saw through her at a glance and sent her away knowing that she had lied about her age.
Soon after, Guo Junqing broke into the camp again at night, ran to the leader of the team, cried and asked to join the army, but was still rejected. The stubborn Guo Junqing will not give up easily. Two failures will only make her more frustrated and courageous. The anger in her heart drives her to avenge her father and must join the army. After the
troops moved, Guo Junqing followed them quietly and was almost beaten to death as a spy. But she still refused to leave and continued to follow the troops for more than 100 kilometers. The news reached the ears of the army chief. He was moved by this and agreed to her joining the army, and arranged for her to become a correspondent.
Guo Junqing came to the military camp as she wished. When the comrades saw her small figure, they all loved her very much and were willing to play with her. However, she knew that this opportunity was hard to come by and did not dare to slack off, so she trained harder than anyone else. Her performance in horse riding, shooting, bombing, and assassination were all among the best, and she was rated as a model for new recruits.
Late one night in the winter of 1946, the northwest wind whistled and blew the dead branches behind the house, making a strange sound. The heavy snow falling from the sky soon covered the roofs, roads and fields with a thick layer of silver.

The two of them drove faster, except for the sound of the north wind, the sounds of "drive" and "ho". Guo Junqing only had one idea in his mind, and that was to complete the task on time. How fast can she ride a horse? I don’t know, but when I came back, the horse ran to death. She had to take off the saddle, put it on her shoulders, and ran back to the army. This time she performed well and was praised by the unit chief and received her first honor.
In May 1948, capturing the county seat of Hiraizumi became the goal of the troops. Guo Junqing was the squad leader, and the task given to her by her superiors was to capture a mountain ridge. Looking around, there was thick gunpowder smoke everywhere. Through the gunpowder smoke, countless moving soldiers were running, and balls of fireball exploded around the soldiers. Waves of charges with no return, rows of soldiers who were shot and fell to the ground, the scene was extremely tragic.
Guo Junqing and the deputy squad leader each led a team and attacked from both wings. Guo Junqing carried the red flag on his shoulders and charged forward, like a god. The two teams fought all the way, and the shouts of killing were loud. Although the enemy resisted tenaciously, our army charged all the way, unstoppable, and would soon reach the top of the mountain. Knowing that the situation was over, the enemy fired three artillery shells in a row, hoping to kill us with the oncoming troops. Unfortunately, the deputy squad leader was shot and killed.
Guo Junqing waved the flag and shouted: "The deputy squad leader sacrificed for our poor people, we must avenge him!" She planted the red flag on the top of the mountain, held the submachine gun , rushed to the front, and started hand-to-hand combat with the enemy. Under her inspiration, the whole class of soldiers rushed up the mountain like tigers descending the mountain and hungry wolves pouncing on food, and wiped out all the enemies. After the war, the whole class was praised and rated as a "combat model class" and received a banner. Guo Junqing was transferred to the machine gun battalion and was re-elected as party branch secretary.
On the battlefield, Guo Junqing is not inferior to men at all. She always fights bloody, takes the lead and charges forward. Her bravery is even greater than that of men. However, she was a girl after all. In order not to reveal her identity in the military camp, she paid a price that ordinary people could not bear.
She never takes off her clothes when sleeping. She cannot hug her comrades, let alone go to the toilet or take a shower with them. Even during her menstrual period, she had to endure the abdominal pain and go into battle to kill the enemy. Although her voice was rough and she hid it from her comrades for a while, some attentive soldiers inevitably noticed something strange. Once, a comrade suddenly hugged her and joked that he wanted to check her body, but suddenly felt something was wrong and quickly let her go. Guo Junqing was so angry that he wanted to fight him desperately, which frightened his comrades into confusion.
In order to become more like a man, Guo Junqing began to learn to smoke. She deliberately imitated the movements of men, and she could really look like the real thing. However, no matter how much she imitates, she is still a woman after all, and it is always revealed inadvertently. At a theatrical performance held for fellow villagers, she wore a cheongsam and a wig, sang and danced, and the fellow villagers present laughed heartily. Fellow villagers all said: "This Aaron Kwok looks so much like a woman!" Guo Junqing, who had suffered a lot during his more than 20 years of military career and long-term gunfire, suffered from serious gynecological diseases. The physical torture made her unbearable. She tried many times to save herself, but it was too late. For the sake of her own life, she had to confess her female identity to the organization. The
organization understood the difficulties she had endured over the years and how much she had suffered, so they sent her to a large military hospital for a hysterectomy. After Guo Junqing recovered from health, she changed from her usual male attire and officially put on a female military uniform. Immediately, the news that Guo Fu was a girl spread throughout the 48th Army. Comrades in arms expressed that Guo Junqing was good. He Jinnian, then commander of the 48th Army, called her a heroine and the pride of the 48th Army!
After the founding of New China, the National Congress of Fighting Heroes was held in Beijing, and Guo Junqing was named a "Special Female Fighting Hero." Chairman Mao and Commander-in-Chief Zhu both shook hands with her cordially and congratulated her. Chairman Mao also specially invited her to take a seat on the rostrum.Chairman Mao said of him: "Women are not inferior to men, and they are a qualified communist fighter!"
In 1951, Guo Junqing was working in Caoxian County, Shandong Province. The house she lived in fell to the ground on sunny days and leaked on rainy days. She always saved money from her teeth to help people around her. When she met an old man who had no clothes to wear, she would take off her clothes and put them on them. She adopted a daughter, but has never had a job or a registered permanent residence, and has not applied for it. She often said: "I have a monthly salary, which is enough to spend. There are still many people in need, so we must help others first."
On September 23, 1983, Guo Junqing died of sudden cerebral hemorrhage in Changzhou at the age of 53. . The people will never forget this heroine who sacrificed her life and fought bloody battles for the founding of New China.
