Premier Zhou Enlai participated in the revolution in the 1920s until his death in January 1976. During his more than 50 years of revolutionary career, why has he been in the core leadership position of the party, while other leaders in the party have never done so? Zhou Enlai went to Japan and France to study successively, led the May Fourth student patriotic movement, served as director of the political department of Whampoa Military Academy during the first KMT cooperation , and led the Shanghai Workers' Armed Uprising. In the August 1 Nanchang Uprising, he founded and led the Central Special Branch, commanded the Red Army for the fourth anti-encirclement and suppression , participated in leading the Red Army’s Long March, properly resolved the Xi’an Incident, participated in the Chongqing negotiation, participated in the leadership of the Liberation War, and strategized Three major battles. At every major historical juncture of the Chinese revolution, Zhou Enlai was present, and he played a mainstay role in the revolutionary cause. Zhou Enlai's outstanding ability has also won the recognition of every party leader, as well as the recognition of the opponent's camp. Song Meiling once asked Chiang Kai-shek : "Why don't we have such talents as Zhou Enlai?" During the Chongqing negotiations,A reporter once said with emotion that Zhou Enlai defeated the entire Kuomintang.
After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Zhou Enlai served as Premier of the State Council. It is in this situation of internal and external difficulties, under the wise leadership of Chairman Mao, Zhou Enlai, with his extraordinary ability to govern the country, has rapidly developed my country's national economy to a better level. He put forward the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, gradually breaking the isolation of Western imperialism from our country, and creating a new situation in our country's diplomacy. Zhou Enlai's talent was universally praised by the world.
Second, Zhou Enlai was tolerant and kind, caring for the overall situation and not competing for fame and fortune. Although Zhou Enlai was in a high position, he never used power to overwhelm others. He was always polite and amiable when dealing with others. He considers the overall situation and sacrifices his own interests for the cause of the party and the country. At the Zunyi Conference, he, as the general political commissar of the Red Army, took the initiative to assume the responsibility of the Red Army’s failure in its fifth anti-encirclement and suppression campaign, and urged Mao Zedong to lead the Red Army. Thanks to Zhou Enlai's efforts, Mao Zedong regained command of the army, thus turning the Red Army into peace.
Prior to the Zunyi Conference, Zhou Enlai's position in the party had always been higher than Mao Zedong, but the failure of the Red Army's fifth anti-encirclement and suppression and the passive beating at the beginning of the Long March made Zhou Enlai realize that only Mao Zedong can lead the Red Army to victory in the revolution. He was willing to be Mao Zedong's deputy. Zhou Enlai once said to Bogu: "We have all studied abroad and don't know much about China, but the old Mao understands that only he can lead the Chinese revolution to succeed. As long as the revolution can succeed, what else should we care about? ."
After the Red Army’s one, four, two fronts joined forces, Zhang Guotao relied on his solid strength to usurp the supreme leadership of the party. In the critical situation, Zhou Enlai made another sacrifice and was willing to cede the post of the Red Army's general political commissar to Zhang Guotao, thus avoiding the split between the party and the Red Army. At the critical moment, Zhou Enlai showed his selflessness, sacrificing the ego, and taking care of the overall situation.
Third, Zhou Enlai is diligent and honest, and selfless. Zhou Enlai's diligence is universally recognized. He has great energy, manages everything every day, and has to work more than ten hours a day. Whenever he encounters major problems in the country, he sometimes does not rest for several days and nights. He doesn't matter in detail, he will do everything by himself. Chairman Mao did not hesitate to praise Premier Zhou, saying, " Zhougong really has the task of spitting out", "The Prime Minister is concerned about major issues of the country, down to the work of the waiter." It can be said that Premier Zhou’s workload is It is difficult for others to compare.
Although Premier Zhou was in a high position, he was incorrupt throughout his life, and he did not leave much legacy until his death. His clothes were stitched many times, and his daily diet was very frugal, even inferior to ordinary people. In the elementary school’s Chinese textbook, there is an article "One Night’s Work", which recorded a detail. Premier Zhou had to review documents one foot thick all night, and only a small dish of peanuts was placed on the table to satisfy his hunger. His diligence and frugality are evident.
Premier Zhou is in power throughout his life, but he explicitly prohibits his relatives from using his position and influence for personal gain. His brothers, nephews and nephews are also self-reliant and lead the lives of ordinary people. His wife, Deng Yingchao, has made outstanding contributions. According to his seniority, he should have arranged high positions in the party. However, for the smooth development of party work, Premier Zhou deliberately lowered his wife's power.
