On August 28, 1992, Tan Qixiang passed away. Tan Qixiang is a famous historical geographer and the main founder and pioneer of my country's historical geography. He has done a lot of research on China's historical territories, political regions, ethnic migration and cultural regions, and has insights into the changes of the Yellow River, the Yangtze River system, lakes, and coasts. Representative works include "The Historical Atlas of China's National Atlas", "A Dictionary of Chinese History" and so on.
Tan Qixiang graduated from the Yanjing University Research Institute in 1932, and was a lecturer at Peking University in 1933. In 1934, he and Gu Jiegang initiated the establishment of China's first historical and geography academic group-Yugong Society; in 1950, he taught at Fudan University, established the Chinese Historical Geography Research Laboratory, which was later upgraded to research He has served as the director of the History Department, the director of the Institute of Historical Geography, and a member of the school committee. Elected as a representative of the 3rd, 4th and 5th National People's Congress and a member of the 8th Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. In 1980, he was elected as a member of the Department of Geosciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
