A few days ago, I bought "Escape Simulator" on Steam. As the name suggests, this is a simulated escape room game. I always feel a little weird when I see the promotion: "find puzzle props in the room, solve the puzzle, and finally open the door." This gameplay seems to have been around for a long time. From the ancient early puzzle AVGs to all kinds of trendy horror adventure games, there are more or less gameplays similar to "solve the puzzle and escape the room", but I have never heard of "escape room" or the recently popular "escape room". emulator" combination.

I haven’t been playing for a long time, and my experience so far is pretty good. Although I couldn't find a friend to experience it with me, I managed to pass a few rooms on my own. The theme of the room corresponds to the puzzle, and the method of solving the puzzle is no different from previous adventure games: it is nothing more than rummaging through the boxes in the room to find one or two small pieces of paper, and the hints on the small paper are combined with the back of a certain towel. The message, or combined with the interpretation in a certain manual, finally opens a mysterious safe, which contains a key. The key can be used to open a panel on the wall, and a new puzzle will be provided in the panel...

The room is not Big, but rich in content

I was not a fan of this mode because I didn’t like the experience of being stuck at a level. Anyone who has played a traditional Japanese RPG must have experienced the moment when they and the game maker brainwave are not on par. It may be just a small difference in idea, which can make you wander around in a certain corridor or room without a clue for several hours. In the end, you have to throw up your hands and start searching for "such and such game process guide".

"Escape Room Simulator" handles this aspect well: the puzzles in each room are independent of each other, and the rooms are often not large, which can help you eliminate some wrong directions in advance. And the best part about it: every room has a button on the wall. When you're at a loss, you can press a button to get a piece of paper with a hint on it.

Thank you, the magical little button

This magical little button has helped me a lot. Unfortunately, there are no such convenient props in reality - just a few days ago, I also experienced a "real person escape room". Different from those entertainment facilities that cost tens of dollars to enter, this experience was exciting enough and completely free - I was locked in the hotel bathroom.

The situation happened suddenly. Maybe it’s because the door lock is old, or maybe it’s just “lucky”, but no matter how hard I twist the bathroom door handle, the door lock’s deadbolt shows no sign of moving. I was the only one in the hotel room, and I didn't have my cell phone with me. This small bathroom became a real secret room - just like what is described in a mystery novel or a horror game.

Life is always full of surprises. A few months ago, I saw similar news: a woman was locked in her bathroom for dozens of hours, and was finally rescued by knocking on a water pipe to attract the attention of her neighbors. It's just that I didn't expect this to happen to me. In a hotel, it may not take dozens of hours, but if you wait, you will have to wait until early the next morning for a waiter to come and clean. It may be somewhat difficult to fall asleep in this small bathroom, and you may miss the next day's work.

You can always find keys in the game, but maybe the keys can't open the bathroom door.

Looking around, I decided to start looking for "puzzle-solving props". There was no window in the bathroom and towels and rolls were clearly useless. A simple inspection of the bathroom door revealed that it opened inward. It seemed impossible to break in violently, and I didn’t want to incur a compensation bill for myself. Disposable toothbrush and toothpaste? plastic slipper? It didn't look very reliable, but I picked up a plastic comb and tried to push the deadbolt from the crack in the door. It's a pity that this comb is of better quality and is quite thick, so it can't be stuffed into a small door crack. This "game design" is indeed unreasonable. It would be nice if the scene provided a plastic card! Back then, I was an expert at “meal card opening”.

But the door handle seemed a little loose, which gave me another glimmer of hope. After a lot of fiddling, I finally removed the screw on the inside of the handle. But the designer of the door lock should have anticipated this: even if I removed the screws, I still couldn't access the internal structure of the lock. This extinguished my last hope.

I finally gave up. I started yelling and banging on the door, finally getting the waiter's attention for being a nuisance. The waiter called the front desk, and the front desk called the maintenance master. The master couldn't find anything to do with the lock, so he finally kicked the door open, putting an end to this ridiculous accident.

After the violent break-in...

If I could, I would not hesitate to give this secret room experience a bad review: "Lack of game guidance, lack of key mission props, and no logic." It's really bad. I didn't seem to have done anything wrong, but life just kicked me into this secret room without giving me the props to solve the task, and there was no "magic little button" that would prompt prompts when I pressed it. I was in the bathroom thinking about "escape room simulators" and the Japanese puzzle RPGs that I despised. There may be some unreasonable things in the game, but they are not so unreasonable.

is still a good game.
