If you want to dance like bread, in what manner? In The Space, a "gallery-style cafe" in Gubei, Changning, what is now on display is "Dancing Bread" brought by a young artist, as if it has been cast by magic. Food superimposed on art is full of happiness-making warmth.

Inadvertently, The Space has also quietly passed through eight years of exhibition after exhibition. Life here is very "art", and art is also very "life".

Inspiration in life

When Bread Can Dance

The name of the exhibition "Dancing Bread" is taken from the ceramic sculpture of the same name. Related to bread, there are also watercolor works on paper.

How did you think that bread can dance? The creator of the work, Lu Li, an artist living in France, answered everyone's questions in the interview: "The way the slices of bread pop out of the toaster instantly reminds me of many images, so I created a series of anthropomorphic bread slices." Things that appear repeatedly in daily life are worthy of "re-attention", because they can not only light up inspiration, but also create a breakwater for us to resist the wind and waves.

In the exhibition, you can not only see the "dressage" of bread, but also a group of gray cats sleeping next to a pink desk lamp, and two people connected by headphone cables leaning against each other to listen to music or other things. Lu Li said: "Each of my paintings is poured by my time. To a certain extent, my life is preserved in each painting. If I didn't paint, I would doubt whether I existed."

It is reported that this exhibition was hard-won. Not only is it Lu Li’s first solo exhibition in China in the past three years, it is also an exhibition that was delayed for about half a year. Regarding the exhibition period, The Space team tried their best to maintain the daily operation of the exhibition hall, "I hope that every friend who likes art can get some comfort and happiness here"; on the other hand, they also extended the exhibition time as much as possible, "Considering the long Spring Festival holiday, we severely extended it by two weeks." When

visited the exhibition, "Ning Ning" asked about the period of the last exhibition. The clerk replied with a smile, "The last time was last year, at the end of the year." The theme of screen painting is very interesting. "The exhibition is a painting by a university teacher. He draws one on his mobile phone every day."

Art is the "Art Ark" that started eight years ago

If everything goes as usual, The Space will basically hold 4-6 exhibitions every year.

The Space team told "Ning Ning" that they have been established for eight years. The Gubei store on Yili Road is the first, and the Daxue Road store opened in 2019 is the second. It is one of the earliest gallery-style cafes in Shanghai.

art is undoubtedly the biggest highlight of this store. A light box was added to the remodel above the counter, reading "Hello Artlovers." The overall space of

was created by a German design team. Since it is not a commercial space and has many pillars and walls, they took advantage of the situation and created an "ark of art" layout with a square box in the middle.

Over the years, The Space has brought many encounters with art in ordinary life - how many colors can the moon wax and wane? Do you still remember the "small world" in the optometre? What is the state of mind of the grandmother who picked up the paintbrush again after decades? By the way, as a gallery in a café, there is no charge for the exhibition itself.

is committed to giving contemporary young artists a space to display their works and giving ordinary people an opportunity to contact and collect art. This is the inner expectation of The Space team. They believe that art is not equivalent to masterpieces worth thousands of dollars in auction houses, and collecting art does not necessarily consider the collection potential. prints, oil paintings, acrylics, installations, and original watercolor works worth thousands of dollars are all opportunities for us to meet the "original". What are the future plans for

? The Space made a small "spoiler":

Our philosophy is that art is a part of daily life, and we are the promoter and deliverer of "affordable art".In the future, I hope to create an “affordable fair” (affordable exhibition) and introduce more artists and works to everyone!
