Recently, market research institution Wood Mackenzie released the latest data saying that the total global wind power complete machine orders in the second quarter of this year reached 43 million kilowatts, and the order scale reached US$18.1 billion, a record high. Among them, the orders of Chinese wind power complete machine manufacturers performed particularly well, and the total number of orders received in the second quarter accounted for more than 80% of the global total.
Under the trend of countries actively promoting the development of renewable energy, the industry generally believes that the global wind power complete market is optimistic in the future, and Chinese wind power complete machine manufacturers will usher in more market opportunities.
Wind power complete machine order scale in the first half of the year hit a record
data released by Wood Mackenzie showed that in the second quarter of this year, the order scale of wind power complete machine merchants in China reached 35 million kilowatts, accounting for more than 80% of the global total in the same period, driving the global wind power complete machine order scale to rise by 36% year-on-year. During the same period, the total orders for wind power in Europe reached 3.8 million kilowatts in the second quarter, doubled the order size in the first quarter of this year. The market for wind power in the United States was relatively weak in the first half of this year, with the order size being less than 2 million kilowatts.
In the second quarter wind power complete orders, the offshore wind turbine order scale exceeded 6 million kilowatts, and the Chinese market also dominated it. In the first half of this year, China's offshore fan orders accounted for 74% of the global total, and it has achieved growth in offshore fan orders for three consecutive quarters.
Not only that, the agency also pointed out that driven by the Chinese market, the global wind power complete orders in the first half of this year have exceeded 61 million kilowatts, an increase of 13% from the same period in 2021, also setting a record high.
At the same time, Wood Mackenzie analyzed that in the first half of this year, seven wind power complete manufacturers in China received enough fan orders and entered the ranking of the top ten wind power complete manufacturers in the world. Luke Lewandowski, research director of the agency, said that the three wind power manufacturers, Jinfeng , Mingyang , and Vision, were very active in the second quarter of this year, and the total fan orders they received exceeded 26 million kilowatts. He said that China's wind power complete machine manufacturers have achieved a global leading position through leaps and bounds, which is inseparable from rapid technological innovation and strong government support.
Global wind power installed capacity is expected to grow rapidly
by region, in the first half of this year, the installed capacity of wind power in Europe and Asia increased significantly, while the US market was relatively weak. Wood McKenzie pointed out that the main reasons for the sluggish demand for wind power in the United States in the first half of the year include rising labor costs, inflation , and supply chain disruptions. These factors have had a negative impact on the whole machine manufacturers who rely on the US wind power market, and it is more difficult to obtain orders.
But the agency believes that the "Inflation Cuts Act" recently passed by the United States may stimulate the US wind power industry, and US wind power installed capacity demand is expected to rebound in the second half of the year. At the same time, China's wind power market will maintain prosperity, and the annual installed capacity is expected to exceed 55 million kilowatts in the next ten years, which will continue to promote the expansion of the fan market. In addition, the European Parliament voted to pass a resolution on September 14, saying that it would raise the proportion of renewable energy installed target in EU in 2030 from 40% set beforehand to 45%, which also means that the EU needs to more than double the scale of renewable energy installed capacity by 2030.
"With new incentives, wind power projects will be more economical and competitive than traditional energy technologies. If Chinese wind power complete manufacturers maintain the current growth rate, the demand for wind power in the United States will gradually rise, and the global wind power complete market will further break the historical record this year," said Luke Lewandowski.
China's complete machine market share may continue to increase
Faced with the huge global wind power market demand, the industry generally believes that the Chinese wind power complete machine merchants, which currently dominate, are expected to expand their advantages.
From the perspective of the domestic market, all provinces (regions) in my country have issued the "14th Five-Year Plan" wind power installed capacity goals, and the bidding market for offshore wind power project continues to be hot. In its 2022 semi-annual report, Goldwind Technology pointed out that from January to June this year, the total number of bidding in the domestic market reached 51.1 million kilowatts, a year-on-year increase of 62.3%, of which the number of bidding at sea reached 9.14 million kilowatts.Under the "dual carbon" goal, wind energy will play an important role in global energy, and China's wind power will become the growth pillar of the global wind power industry.
At the same time, the expansion of Chinese wind power complete machine manufacturers in overseas markets is also expected to accelerate. Ping An Securities pointed out in its research report that my country's offshore wind power industry has developed rapidly in recent years. As of 2021, China has become the world's largest offshore wind power market, and at the same time it has cultivated a complete sea breeze manufacturing industry chain. Compared with European sea breeze manufacturing companies, domestic manufacturing companies have strong production expansion and delivery capabilities and low manufacturing costs, so they are expected to enter the overseas offshore wind power market dominated by Europe.
In fact, my country's wind power complete machine enterprises have long accelerated their export layout. In the first half of this year, Goldwind Technology announced the construction of the zero-carbon headquarters base of Shenyuanhai offshore wind power in Wenzhou, including Shenyuanhai floating R&D headquarters, offshore wind power large-capacity fan manufacturing and export base, zero-carbon demonstration zone, etc. Mingyang Intelligent also disclosed in its announcement that in the first half of the year, the company completed the delivery of the 30,000 kilowatt offshore wind power project in Italy, achieving a breakthrough in the sales of Chinese companies in Europe, and also began to deliver the 375,000 kilowatt offshore wind power project in Jinou, Vietnam.
Ping An Securities pointed out that the products of domestic leading offshore wind power manufacturing companies and international similar business companies are relatively cost-effective.
