It became the first park to win this honor during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area , and is also one of the first parks to be named and awarded after the National Ecological Industrial Demonstration Park was upgraded to an Ecological Civilization Construction Demonstration Zone (Ecological Industrial Park). The National Ecological Civilization Construction Demonstration Zone (Ecological Industrial Park) (formerly the National Ecological Industrial Demonstration Park) is an important practical form of ecological civilization construction in the industrial park field jointly promoted by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Science and Technology. The National Ecological Industrial Park ranks at the leading level in terms of indicators such as economic development, , material reduction and circulation, pollution prevention and control, and park management. Guangzhou Nansha Development Zone was approved for establishment in May 1993 and officially started the creation of a national ecological industry demonstration park in 2008. Since it was approved to carry out the construction of the National Ecological Industry Demonstration Park in 2012, over the past ten years, Nansha has been unswervingly following the path of ecological priority and green development, continuously improving industrial resource and energy efficiency, and reducing the resource and environmental pressure on industrial development. At present, Guangzhou Nansha Development Zone has initially formed an ecological industry network with the integrated development of automobile manufacturing and electronic information industries as the main body and the normalization of ecological industry cooperation among enterprises. The economic quality and efficiency continue to improve, and the quality and efficiency improvement are obvious. The comprehensive ranking of national economic and technological development zones has increased from 27th in 2017 to 12th in 2021. The annual average reduction rate of carbon dioxide emissions per unit of industrial added value , the proportion of the total industrial output value of high-tech enterprises to the total industrial output value of the park, the per capita industrial added value of the park, and the industrial added value per unit of industrial land area respectively reach 2.2 times, 2.3 times, 4.6 times and 8 times of the national ecological industrial demonstration park creation standards; the fresh water consumption per unit of industrial added value, the wastewater emission per unit of industrial added value and the comprehensive energy consumption per unit of industrial added value respectively dropped to 1/4, 1/5 and 1/10 of the standards respectively.
