The world influence of a city, including economic center cities, is by no means formed in isolation. It is accompanied by the sunshine of peace and development, relying on the country's strategic planning blueprint and hard power, as well as its own sustainable development capabilities. At present, as far as Shanghai is concerned about improving its world influence, its core elements are: the will and new capabilities to implement national strategies, the sustainable growth and innovation of the economy itself, and the decisive impact of the main service industry on the world economic supply chain. , the expansion of the international financial settlement capabilities of the national currency, the RMB, the influence of new lifestyles, and cultural soft power including international communication capabilities.
In the past five years, Shanghai has successfully held four consecutive China International Import Expo. The effects of Shanghai Stock Exchange Science and Technology Innovation Board and registration system have continued to amplify. The integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta has continued to deepen and become more solid. "The four major Functions" continue to be strengthened, the "four major brands" continue to be launched, leading industries develop and grow, and advanced manufacturing makes breakthroughs and leaps. These are report cards that the international community can see and understand. On the world trade map that has experienced the impact of the epidemic in the century, Shanghai has become a new international trade center shining in the East. The CIIE is Shanghai’s golden business card and new capabilities. In the next five years, Shanghai will build a central node in the domestic cycle and a strategic link between domestic and international dual cycles, deepen the integrated development of domestic and foreign trade, and have a closer connection with the global economic system.
Special studies by major think tanks at home and abroad have shown that: Shanghai itself and the Yangtze River Delta Economic Circle, with it as the leader, have perseverance in growth and innovation capabilities; its economic radiation space is global, and the timeline of medium-to-high-speed growth is The national blueprint axis will run through at least 2035, and the next five years will be a critical stage for take-off. At present, Shanghai's economic aggregate has surpassed similar indicators in countries such as Sweden, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, and Malaysia; last year's per capita GDP was US$26,900 based on the average exchange rate, reaching the level of the World Bank. and are recognized by the OECD as the level of developed countries. Despite this, according to the "2022 World's Top 500 Cities" ranking, Shanghai currently ranks eighth among the world's top ten cities in terms of economic size. Since the Ninth Party Congress in Shanghai put forward the strategic proposition of developing modern service industry, Shanghai International Shipping Center has become a key hub affecting the world economic supply chain. Even in April and May this year, the international transshipment business of Yangshan Deepwater Port and Pudong Airport maintained active operations. In June, Shanghai fully entered a new cycle of resumption of work and production, and the container prices of Shanghai's ocean routes to the United States and Europe immediately showed an upward trend. In the next five years, Shanghai International Shipping Center will continue to grow and become the central nervous system of the world's shipping market and the world's economic supply chain. It will not only continue to rank first in the world in terms of container throughput. At the same time, the expansion of RMB settlement functions will directly empower the new blueprint of Shanghai International Financial Center.
In addition to providing the most advanced production methods and market factors, world-class cities often have to birth or invent new lifestyles that radiate around the world.For example, Tokyo has invented instant noodles and karaoke, London has invented afternoon tea and horse racing, New York has the Philharmonic Orchestra, which was born at the same time as Shanghai opened its port, Paris has the Left Bank, and Moscow has "Swan Lake". Today, Shanghai has contributed new methods such as the intelligent application of big data to the world. In the next five years, it will gain global influence in new fields such as new energy grid connection and energy conservation, new energy vehicle technology breakthroughs, and human-machine dialogue. However, in order to significantly increase the level of "world influence", hard power alone is not enough; Shanghai's story must also be told well. We should focus on better presenting Chinese ideas, Chinese spirit, and Chinese path to the world, more consciously promote the city's spiritual character, more proactively improve the city's soft power, including international communication capabilities, and give full play to the "accelerator" of soft power. effect.
