by the Nujiang River in Yunnan, Hong Kong host Chen Beier while shouting "I'm scared", she put her strap on her body without hesitation. In order to feel the comparison between the past and the present, she wants to experience the zipline .
Someone around me reminded: "You can't touch your hands randomly. If you touch a zipline, your face will definitely be disfigured!"
gliding began. Chen Beier tried hard to overcome his fear, but he did not forget to hold the selfie stick to take a photo with one hand.
This is a scene in the documentary "The Road to Infinity". "The host is too fierce!" "The courageous!" The audience burst into barrage.
From the tropical rainforest to the Gobi desert, from the surging Nujiang River to the plateau with an altitude of 4,000 meters, Chen Beier climbed the ladder, passed the zipline, constantly challenged the physical limits, overcame psychological fears, and personally led the audience to witness the miracle of full poverty alleviation, which has been recorded in history.
With this documentary, she was named "Touching China's Person of the Year 2021". Before that, she rarely even came to the mainland, and her identity, known by Hong Kong audiences, was once an entertainment anchor.
01
1979, Chen Beier was born in Hong Kong. His father Chen Yonghao was called the "gold medal producer". He has planned concerts for Leslie Cheung , Anita Mui and many other concerts.
In the eyes of ordinary people, celebrities are out of reach, and for Chen Beier, they are just her big friends. Leslie Cheung loves her very much and often gives her little gifts; while Anita Mui's performance costumes are the only one who dares to wear them.
grew up under the love of a number of superstars. Naturally, the stage also made Chen Beier yearn for it. However, what she is more interested in is the hosting.
html When Chen Beier immigrated to Canada with her parents. When she was in middle school, because of her tall figure and beautiful face, many people around her encouraged her to participate in beauty pageants. She was unmoved by this. After graduation, she was admitted to Ximen Fraser University to study journalism and communication as she wished.
After graduating from university, Chen Beier stood out with her outstanding self-conditions and became the first generation of entertainment news anchor in Hong Kong.
You have just entered the industry and you need to strive for opportunities yourself. At that time, Hong Kong media rarely went abroad for interviews, and Chen Beier's figure was the first to appear at international film festivals and fashion weeks. Foreigners were surprised: "Where did you come from?"
For a girl from Hong Kong, China, they did not leave her a place, and would not provide her with any interview opportunities.
In 2004, Chen Beier won the opportunity to go to Cannes Film Festival to interview Japanese artist Kimura Takuya . Unexpectedly, because Kimura's itinerary changed, all the agreed visits were cancelled.
When foreign media told each other to return home, Chen Beier was unwilling to give up. She immediately ran to the hotel where Kimura was staying to squat. A few hours later, Kimura was moved by her sincerity and finally agreed to give her three minutes.
fluent Japanese, without any delay in visiting, Chen Beier's professional ability greatly appreciated Kimura. At the end of the interview, he happily hooked up with Chen Beier: "See you next time!"
In just three minutes, Chen Beier "becomed famous in one battle." Afterwards, she became the first Hong Kong female reporter to appear at major international events such as the Academy Awards and Milan Fashion Week .
Her respondents include world superstars such as Michael Jackson , Little Li Zi , and these achievements make her a veritable "Entertainment No. 1 Sister".
Although she is just an entertainment anchor, Chen Beier always forgets the sense of mission of media people.
In 2007, she went to the Cannes Film Festival for an interview. At a press conference, a foreign reporter maliciously asked a Chinese actor to speak English with the goal of laughing at him for his poor English.
Faced with the stigma, Chen Beier stood up and asked the other party: "We Chinese people originally speak Chinese. So what if we don't speak English well? We should not be used as a joke."
A weak girl, but she is so humble and arrogant. The audience gave Chen Beier a complimentary look, and the other party finally apologized.
talked about this matter more than a few years later, Chen Beier said seriously: "You can't be bullied, this is an instinctive reaction."
beautiful and intellectual, and on the stage, Chen Beier is dazzling. In 2017, she began to plan the documentary "Marrying to the Border of the World", and went to Germany, Denmark, , Sweden, , and other places to search for Hong Kong women who have become wives.
1 In a month, you have to travel to seven or eight countries. As a "flying person", your body must constantly adapt to the temperature and time difference, which is very hard. When she was filmed in Turkey, the high temperature of Sahara Desert made her faint from heatstroke and had to be sent to the local hospital for treatment; and during interviews with African countries such as Nigeria , she experienced war spirits, poor public security, power and water cuts, and sanitation problems, which were no less than war correspondents.
The journey was difficult, but it was full of harvest. Under her guidance, the protagonist in the story told the grievance, pain, tenderness, and loneliness. It was the details that resonated with the audience.
Everyone left messages asking for advice: "How to show affinity from body language, tone of speech?"
In response, Chen Beier smiled and said, "I don't know the answer myself. Even if I ask me to start a class, I can't teach it. It's natural."
3 seasons of the program are praised, and Chen Beier's popularity has increased greatly. For three consecutive years, she has been nominated for TVB's "Best Host of the Thousand Stars".
02
From interviewing superstars to facing ordinary people, Chen Beier has seen more people who leave a strong impression of her life. She is eager to produce more profound and thoughtful content.
The opportunity is here. In February 2021, my country announced its full poverty alleviation. In order to allow Hong Kong people to see the real changes in the mainland, TVB decided to prepare for the documentary "Infinite Road". The
program will conduct interviews in more than ten deeply impoverished areas in Sichuan, Yunnan and other places, and the host's "trick" is Chen Beier. Although at that time, her concept of poverty was still stuck in a few pictures, and she came to the mainland only a few times.
With his consistent professional spirit, Chen Beier began his preliminary preparations, not only strengthening physical training, but also invited the teacher to make up for Mandarin , "Even Hong Kong general public, it must be a high-level Hong Kong general public."
In order to strengthen her understanding of poverty alleviation, she specially watched the poverty alleviation drama "Mountains and Seas". The challenges and changes on the road to poverty alleviation moved her very much.
But at the same time, when looking up the information, she also saw Western media’s doubts about China’s poverty alleviation. They claimed that China can get rid of poverty because “the standards set are too low.”
Chen Beier was very indignant about this malicious slander: "As a media person, you cannot believe it just by reading other people's reports, but you really have to watch and listen to it yourself, and use the facts to convince the other party."
Two months later, Chen Beier and her team embarked on the "infinite road". Four Hong Kong people and one Guangzhou people, there is no script, no rehearsal, only a search for reality.
The first stop was, and they came to the " Cliff Village " located in Liangshan, Sichuan. Although the villagers have moved to the government resettlement house at the foot of the mountain as a whole, in order to experience the difficulties of life in the past, Chen Beier decided to climb the steel ladder and personally experience the life of the "cliff village".
Steel ladder is as high as 2556 levels. At seven o'clock in the morning, Chen Beier and his team began to climb up. The sun was getting bigger and bigger and heavier.
After more than two hours, she felt dizzy, weak legs, feared heights, and had difficulty breathing. The accompanying poverty alleviation secretary advised her: "It is recommended to do what you can, there is no need to take this risk!"
team also said: "We have a more labor-saving way to report."
However, Chen Beier only looked at the camera panting and said: "Give me half a minute, thirty seconds!"
"I must climb to the top step by step to tell everyone in front of the camera that their past lives and the earth-shaking changes now."
Half a minute later, the ladder continued, Chen Beier used both hands and feet, and did not forget to mock herself as "forcing the 'cold' mountain."
On the way, they met Labo, a villager called "cliff flying man". With the help of Labo, Chen Beier worked hard step by step. Under nervousness and fear, he did not dare to look around. When she reached the most difficult place, Labo encouraged her to see the scenery around her, and she instinctively refused: "I don't want to see it!"
But at that moment, she was deeply moved. The journey is so difficult, but Rabo is grateful and never forgets to appreciate it. What an amazing feeling!
"They gave me strength to tell their stories well, it's not just 'almost'."
Six and a half hours later, Chen Beier finally climbed to the top of the mountain. Her strength was exhausted and her feet were weak. She didn't care about rest and immediately started shooting. Going down the mountain was another problem. When I returned to my residence that day, it was already twelve o'clock at night.
The next day, at the invitation of Labo, Chen Beier came to his new residence at the foot of the mountain. Seeing Rabo from afar, she trotted all the way and met her like an old friend. While sitting and chatting, she learned that Rabo was staying in the village to take care of her parents. She naturally reached out and patted Rabo in order to show her appreciation.
does not have the condescending nature of the metropolis. She is sincere, natural, down-to-earth, and truly presents the stories of the little people in front of the camera. The story of

people is the most powerful, Chen Beier faithfully recorded. In Nujiang, Yunnan, she was once again moved when she saw Deng Qiandui, who was nearly 60 years old.
For more than 30 years, Deng Qiandui has shuttled across the Nujiang River to treat villagers, and his only means of transportation is a zipline.
Deng Qiandui's body was covered with scars. Chen Beier was not scared. She wanted to experience the daily life of the villagers in the zip line era.
Facing the surging Nujiang, although she shouted "I'm afraid", she still put her strap on her body without hesitation, and the fear on her face was visible to the naked eye.
gliding began. Chen Beier tried to calm down, but he didn't forget to hold the selfie stick in one hand to take a photo. After sliding to the other side, she was still in shock and asked in a trembling voice: "Is it safe?"
1 has experienced danger personally. Chen Beier admired Deng Qiandui even more. When she heard Deng Qiandui say "I will continue to do it", her eyes turned red.
Today, 199 cross-river bridges have replaced all ziplines. The villagers come from it. Chen Beier truly feels their cherishment, gratitude and happiness.
Later, when someone asked her if she was scared when she was ziplined, she said: "At that time, she was just thinking about whether she had taken meaningful shots. After the shot, she knew she was afraid."
is not sensational, does not render, or is not artificial. She regards herself as an explorer, "just want to tell more people about the country."
The last stop, Chen Beier came to Litang, Sichuan, which is above 4,000 meters above sea level. Although she took anti-altitude sickness medicine in advance, she was still sent to the hospital because of her strong reaction.
Because of delaying shooting, she inhaled oxygen while crying and blaming herself: "I'm not strong enough."
took three months, spanning six provinces, and traveled over a dozen deeply impoverished areas. Chen Beier recorded while walking. Everywhere she goes, she can quickly integrate into the local area.
Hands a bite of Hong Kong. She communicates with the villagers without barriers, wears a draft hat and goes to the fields with farmers, and picks up the simple vegetables made by the villagers at home to feast on them.
She and they had never met and had no prior communication. The reason why the interviewees opened their hearts was because in Chen Beier's eyes, they saw equality and sincerity.
Chen Beier's eyes are the camera, those heartwarming perspectives and the moving details drowned in the grand narrative are captured by her one by one, leaving a private footnote to the times. After the broadcast of
, beyond Chen Beier's surprise, a documentary with the original intention of introducing the development of the mainland to Hong Kong audiences, but also moved hundreds of millions of viewers in Hong Kong and the mainland.
Someone commented after 12 episodes in one go: "Hong Kong people look at the poverty alleviation in the mainland, there is no arrogant airing or luxurious production team, but it truly records the country's efforts to get rid of poverty. The recognition of the two places made me cry in my eyes!"
"Tearful eyes", this is the word that appears the most in the message. Many Hong Kong citizens said they would take their children to see each other. The audience praised the "affinity" and "empathy" of Chen Beier. Among the many praises, there is a saying that is the most touching: "Bent down, she really loves this land."
is moved because of her love. In March 2022, Chen Beier was selected as the "Touching China's Person of the Year 2021". She said: "I can be a bridge to let the world see the real China."
With this sense of mission, Chen Beier continued to tell the moving Chinese story on her "infinite road".
