XJTLU Executive President Professor Xi Youmin, Vice-President Professor Chao Qiuling, Assistant Vice-President (Teaching) Professor Ruan Zhoulin, Director of the Academic Affairs Center Zhu Chuanhui, Assistant Vice-President (Research) and Acting Dean of the School of Mathematical Physics Professor Ma Fei, Deputy Dean Dr. Liu Gang and more than a hundred guests attended the establishment ceremony.

"The key to the value of education is that we change from teaching students knowledge to helping students grow." President Xi pointed out in his speech, "The establishment of the School of Mathematical Physics is dedicated to helping students change their learning behavior and promote research-oriented and interest-based He particularly emphasized the importance of mathematics education to students' future development. "For first-year students, mathematics is a crucial part, and a solid foundation can better support research in different fields."

The School of Mathematical Physics at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University currently has 92 teaching and research staff from 17 countries. There are 5 departments in total, including the Department of Finance and Actuarial Mathematics, the Department of Applied Mathematics, the Department of Basic Mathematics, the Department of University Mathematics and the Department of Physics, covering 3 undergraduate majors, 2 master's majors and 1 doctoral major.

Professor Ma Fei, Acting Dean of the School of Mathematical Physics, focused on student training, graduates’ progress, professional advantages and teacher achievements in the past few years. "From 2018 to 2022, there were a total of 2,460 undergraduate students in actuarial science, applied mathematics and financial mathematics , of which 745 students entered G5 universities in the UK for further study, and 34 students were admitted to Oxford and Cambridge universities."

" In the past three years, a total of 13 projects in the Department of Mathematics and Physics have received funding from the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Strive for excellence in academics, while encouraging students to be self-motivated, independent in learning, and creative in order to develop students’ potential.”

Professor Ma Fei said that the newly established School of Mathematical Physics will continue to explore “student-centered” teaching. And by strengthening cooperation with various departments within the school, XJTLU Entrepreneur College ( Taicang ) and external scholars, we will further enhance the strength and influence of scientific research.
