Modern Express News (Reporter Chen Xi) "The first benefit of reading literary classics is that we can give it new connotations in a new time and space. The second benefit is that we can discover the eternal value in it. It may touch the fundamental dilemma of human existence, or it may convey a universal idea, which will never go out of date." After the initial review, re-review, final selection and online interview review by the review committee, "Encounter with 25 Classics in Shanghai" ——2021~2022 Young Students Reading Literary Classics Competition" recently announced the list of winners online. The first prize winner, Beijing Foreign Studies University student Jiang Yiyi, thanked the competition for providing a good platform for young students to see classic works from a contemporary perspective. "Time will not create a gap between us and literary classics. On the contrary, it provides more possibilities."

Since 2015, the Young Students Reading Classics Literary Competition has been held every two years and has been successfully held four times. The competition is initiated and hosted by the Shanghai Literature Development Foundation, hosted by the Shanghai Writers Association Chinese Literature Network, and co-organized by the " Germination " magazine and the Shanghai Writers Association Cloud Literature Network. The competition calls on high school students, college students, and young students under the age of 30 who write in Chinese at home and abroad to read classic literary works and write book reviews with independent opinions. Most of Pindu's works are selected from the "Hundred Literature Library of Maritime Literature", which was mainly planned and compiled by the Shanghai Writers Association in 2010 and edited and officially published by the Shanghai Literature Development Foundation. The 25 first, second and third prize-winning works will also be presented in the form of special topics on the Chinese Literature Network.

△The "Hundred Books of Maritime Literature" with more than 130 volumes
is close to literary classics and unites the power of the city.
For this competition, experts have selected 25 classic works for contestants to read and comment on. The selection criteria still adhere to the consistent principle, that is, classic masterpieces and famous works, but showing distinctive characteristics.
These 25 works are: Lu Xun " Forging a Sword ", Guo Moruo "Qu Yuan", Ye Shengtao "In the City", Mao Dun " Linjiapuzi ", Yu Dafu "Chi Osmanthus", Xu Zhimo " The Cambridge I Know " , Feng Zikai " Yuanyuantang Essays", Tian Han "Song of Rejuvenation", Qu Qiubai "Preface", Xia Yan "Under the Eaves of Shanghai", Wang Renshu "Friendship", Shen Congwen "Husband", Yang Hansheng "Lights of Ten Thousand Houses", Feng Xuefeng "Memoirs of Lu Xun", Ding Ling "Wei Hu", Ba Jin "In Memory of Mr. Lu Xun", Ai Wu "Panana Valley", Sha Ting "The Way of the Beast", Shi Zhecun "Shixiu", Yu Ling "Night Shanghai", Lu Li "Prison in Green", Yin Fu "Children's Tower", Duanmu Hongliang "The Melancholy of Erlu Lake", Mu Shiying "Shanghai Foxtrot", Pan Liudai "Autobiography of a Retired Lady".
"As we all know, Shanghai under the New Culture Movement has produced so many literary masters and left behind such rich literary classics. With such geographical advantages, the Shanghai Literature Development Foundation organizes such an event. It adds new connotation, vitality and vitality to the cultural business card of Shanghai, an international metropolis." Wang Wei, Party Secretary and Full-time Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Writers Association, has high hopes for the winners of the competition and hopes that more young students will devote themselves to reading classic literature with greater enthusiasm.
"Young trendsetters make the literary career full of charm." Sun Yong, author and , director of the competition's final judging panel, observed that there are many platforms for young creators, but in terms of literary research and literary criticism, there are relatively few development opportunities for young people. "The Young Students Reading Literary Classics Competition has been going on for nearly ten years. It is not only becoming more and more popular, but also has an increasing number of submissions from overseas. This shows that no matter how rapidly social development changes, young people who love literature will always be like the waves behind the Yangtze River pushing the waves ahead."
writer and chairman of the Shanghai Literature Development Foundation Chen Danyan said frankly that this year's competition was more difficult than in previous years, and many people finished reading and submitting manuscripts during the lockdown. We look forward to continuously promoting reading and competitions to connect young students with the spiritual connection with classic literary works, encourage more young people to get close to Shanghai literary works that have become classics, and gather the spiritual power of the city.
Establishing an emotional connection with literary predecessors from a century ago
Different from previous editions, the 25 literary classics for everyone to read and comment on this time cover a variety of literary genres, including 13 novels, 6 prose, 2 poems, and 4 scripts. The final judge of the competition and Shanghai Normal University professor Wang Jiren said that generally speaking, the outside world pays attention to and is familiar with literary styles, followed by novels, prose, poetry, scripts and literary theory. The judges try to allow the contestants to establish an equal viewpoint. Through equal attention, they gradually become familiar with a variety of literary categories and gradually develop the ability to comment on works of various literary styles with ease.
's expectations have been initially achieved in this competition. Among the five first-prize winning works, three were reviews of novels, and the other two were reviews of Xia Yan's drama "Under the Eaves of Shanghai" and Qu Qiubai's literary essay "Selected Works of Lu Xun's Miscellaneous Reflections - Preface" respectively.
Yi Wenjie, who is studying at the Institute of Literature at the Taiwan Research Institute of Xiamen University, won the first prize for his interpretation of Lu Xun's "The Forging of Swords". "I like criticism to burst out sparks of imagination. It should carry storms and lightning." He quoted the words of the thinker Foucault to express his ambition, "I hope that in critical writing, I will strive to bring life to texts and ideas."
Cheng Shaobo, a second-year graduate student majoring in comparative literature at the School of Liberal Arts of Nanjing University, has participated in three consecutive competitions. This time he won the first prize for his interpretation of Xia Yan's play "Under the Roofs of Shanghai". In his opinion, Huang Jiamei, the intellectual representative in "Under the Roofs of Shanghai", as a typical "young man from other provinces", has always been unable to prove the difference between Shanghai and his hometown in the static "action block". The last straw to prove that Shanghai is more "advanced", the plan to let his old father watch a movie, also fell through because of the gloomy Meiyu . Such static tragedy still has practical significance today: After Huang Jiamei's father sold off a large area of land, Huang Jiamei could only live in a small alley in Shanghai. Although Huang Jiamei's father did not understand the benefits of big cities, he still secretly gave Huang Jiamei a sum of money before returning to the countryside. Does this hint at the daily life of many young people who are "drifting in Shanghai" today?
"I am from Zhangjiakou, Hebei Province. I was born in 1999. I am exactly 100 years older than the subject of this comment, Qu Qiubai." Another first prize winner is studying at the School of Liberal Arts of Shandong University. Wang Yuexiao proposed in his entry essay that the core resonance between Qu Qiubai and Lu Xun lies in a strong awareness of "historical middle objects". They both took the initiative to shoulder the gate of darkness and strive to explore the future of the nation in their own way. "After a hundred years, I hope that those of us who are lucky enough to be able to live in the ivory tower, with history and literature as our companions, can also become qualified 'historical middlemen'."
I hope that the article not only contains methods and conclusions, but also the warmth and coldness of the soulh Zhou Limin, director of the re-evaluation of the tml3
competition and executive vice president of the Shanghai Bajin Research Association, said that this competition is wider and wider than previous ones in terms of the distribution of participating schools. At the same time, winning awards is not a "patent" for Chinese students. Students from the School of Foreign Languages, the School of Education, and the School of Medicine are all on the list.
Lu Xun's "Forging Swords" is the work that has received the most attention in this competition. Among the five first prizes, two were about the interpretation of "Forging Swords". "Lu Xun is the origin writer of modern Chinese literature . No matter which direction it develops or extends, it is inseparable from this origin. Only by understanding him can you understand China and the Chinese people." Zhou Limin said. He also appreciates contestants who focus on writers who are less "hot" and not as "famous" as Lu Xun. He encouraged young students to “do research not only to have technical fluency and perfection, but also to have warmth, feelings, and realm.” “I hope to see in more articles not only methods and conclusions, but also the warmth and warmth of the heart and soul.In this way, the reading of classics can become a collision of the soul and a dialogue between the soul, and then the classics can become the water of the river flowing in our hearts, taking us to distant places to appreciate the imaginary scenery. "
Wang Jiren found that in addition to Lu Xun, novels by Yu Dafu, Shen Congwen, Shi Zhecun and others have also entered the current open field of vision of young commentators. "For example, Yu Dafu's "Chi Osmanthus" was once criticized as "lack of characteristics of the times" and that the writer is lagging behind the times ideologically. However, a young commentator who participated in the competition believed that Lao Yu and Weng in "Chi Osmanthus" Zesheng are the usual images of oddballs in Yu Dafu's works. They can't find their own place between tradition and modernity, countryside and city, enlightenment and revolution, reproducing the dilemma of intellectuals and even the entire society at a turning point in history. Therefore, "Chi Osmanthus" is the "amber of memory after the May Fourth Movement of Thought"... The "Stone Show" offered this time is a new compilation of Shi Zhecun's story. One entry article believes that the writing strategy of "Shi Xiu" is more inclined to show the symptoms of fear, anxiety, fetishism and other symptoms that come with desire, suggesting the eternity and destructiveness of love, the contradiction between desire and righteousness, and the process of psychological development. It can be called Shi Zhecun's most far-reaching novel."
