Please recall, when we were in college, did we often hear parents say to us: Children, after entering college, don’t be greedy for fun, spend more time on studying, and pay attention to participating in various sports activities in the school. More importantly, we should be a student leader in the student union, so that we will have more advantages than other students when looking for a job in the future.
Maybe we didn’t know why parents said this at that time, but as we gradually entered society four years after college, you realized that what parents said to us before really had very realistic meaning. So what advantages do college students who have worked as student union cadres in college have when they are employed compared to ordinary college graduates?
Point 1: Have certain management capabilities.
After entering the workplace, what the company wants to look at is not entirely the academic qualifications of college students, because as a 985 or 211 university graduate, if you only look at the academic qualifications and diplomas, the two are almost the same and there will not be much difference. However, if one of the students has been the president of the student union or the student union, then he will learn a certain management ability and management ability in a subtle way.
Although on university campuses, the student union is just a link between the school and the students, a school has at least thousands or even tens of thousands of students, and can invisibly exercise its management ability. Management ability is also a relatively important ability in the workplace and helps work promotion. Therefore, compared with college graduates who have been student union cadres in the school, there has been a big gap to a certain extent compared with college graduates who have never worked as student union officials.
Point 2: Understand teamwork.
We all know that whether it is a school, a company or a department, if you want to achieve results, it is not a single fight, but a group to keep warm and everyone needs to gather together. Although the university student union is a student organization, it is also a prototype of the organization and team. First of all, there are many departments for students, each department has corresponding ministers, each minister has 1 to 2 deputy ministers, and there are many student union officials under the deputy minister. To do a good job in students, you need to understand teamwork.
Many times a job cannot be completed independently by one person, and it also requires the help of other students. The same is true for enterprises. If a job is to be done well, it may also require the collaboration of the entire department or even cross-department team. Therefore, college graduates who have been cadres in the Student Union know how to work together, which is also a point that companies value more.
It can be seen that serving as a cadre of the student union during college can not only win good honors during school, but also like teachers and classmates. More importantly, during this period of work in the student union, you can accumulate certain experience for your future entry into the workplace. Although these experiences cannot be effective in the short term, these experiences will have more inherent soft power than those college graduates who have not entered the student union. Often in enterprises, what corporate managers value more is not grades, but the inner soft power of these college students.
As a teacher, I suggest that all students who are studying in college or are about to enter the university campus should participate in the work of the student union as much as possible during their school days to bring more and greater opportunities for future employment.
